G3 Siriana Stakes

The Siriana Stakes is a Grade 3 race in Surrey England. This race is contested at 6 furlongs over firm turf. A small field of 6 2 year old horses is taking the gate. The prize is the winner’s share of $150,000.

1. ATOMIC STORM (IRE) Two year old colt (Teofilo X Storm Cat X Diesis) This colt is trained by Monolouge and has 4 starts with three wins and a third. He broke his maiden at first asking and then finished third in a stakes going 6.5. I believe it was a bit early for such a jump but he won next time out in a G2 going 5 furlongs and a G3 going 6 after that. His last race he posted an 82 speed and his career best is 83. He easily could have out stripped that 82 as he finished well in front. Should be very competitive here.

2. DOUBLE DUTCH BUS (AUS) Two year old colt (Sebring X A.P. Indy X Danzig) Trained by Crazyass, this colt has two starts under his belt; he broke his maiden going 6.5. He won that race by a leisurely 1 ½ lengths then tackled and off track 6 furlong allowance where he finished 2nd by ½ a length and an 83 speed. The distance isn’t a problem and he has the 2nd highest speed in the race, should do just fine.

3. TWICE THE GIRL (AUS) 2 year old filly (Stratum X Twining X Fusaichi Pegasus) This little girl is the only filly in the race and the long shot to boot. She is trained by Breednsell, and has 1 start and 1 win. She won the maiden special weight with a 70 speed going 5 furlongs. Nothing really recommends her; however, if you look at her lineage, her mom was a decent allowance runner who produced two babies. The first only made two starts including a nice win as a two year old. I see talent in the pedigree despite a non mainstream sire. Keep an eye on her to improve though this may be too tough a spot for it.

4. GOLDEN TURFER (IRE) Two year old colt (Dylan Thomas X Seeking the Gold X Roberto) Trained by Onyourmark, this colt also has one start and one win. He won going 5.5 with a 73 speed and by only ¼ a length. He went to the lead and held on. His breeding is very nice and leads the impression there is a lot of talent in this colt. I generally like to see an allowance win before the jump to stakes but he has the breeding and so far the talent. Good luck and as 2 year old horses do he is bound to improve.

5. IN MEMORY OF ROSE (JPN) Two year old colt (Roses in May X Successful Appeal X Pentelicus) This colt is trained by Clooch715, and for being in a turf graded race has no turf starts. Breeding to me suggest turf. His dirt starts give a little hint as well. In 4 starts the only race he won was on an off track and although his speeds are good and he has 2 seconds in allowance races and a 5th in a graded race going 6.5 on fast dirt I think he will like turf. I like that he comes in having gone a bit farther than this race. If he likes the turf which in my mind he should, he could be very dangerous here.

6. SCEPTIC OUTLOOK (KY) Two year old colt (Smarty Jones X Hennessy X Mr. Prospector) Trained by Pureclass2, this horse has the most experience in this field with 5 starts. He also is the owner of the top speed of any horse in the race. He made his beginning on dirt finishing on the board in both starts. With the switch to turf he broke his maiden and promptly won a stakes race. He ran 6.5 with a 67 speed and won easy. Next out he tackled 7.5 furlongs and closed well posting an 84 but got out ran finishing second. He should like shortening back up and his speeds show he can handle this field.

I do not make picks for babies but these are some very nice 2 year olds and I wish you all luck.
