G1 Getaway Stakes

The Getaway Stakes is a Grade 1 race in Upper New York for all Fillies 2 years of age. They will be going 7 furlongs on fast dirt and will compete for the winner’s share of the $300,000 Prize. Few notes before I start, one I will not say the age of the horse. I figure we all know there two year old fillies. Two, I will also not mention the odds, it think they are useless. That said here we go.

1. RULES BE GOLD (OK) (Country Be Gold X Peace Rules X Danehill) Trained by Graywolf33, this unusually bred filly had three starts which include her maiden break and closing second in an allowance race. Her last race was a mile stakes race where she posted a 77 speed after leading most the race faded to third. That suggest to me she wants this long of a race right now. If she could be pulled off the pace I think she could get there. She will need to step up her speed some though, and she has been improving those with every start.

2. HARD ROCK LEGEND (KY) (Forestry X Rock Hard Ten X Seeking the Gold) This filly is trained by Walmtk, and has only two starts under her belt. A 4th in a maiden special weight and then a win in a MSW going 7 furlongs where she ran a 79 speed lead the field by 6 then finished over 2 lengths in front. She could easily do well here. One thing I must point out Forestry X RHT why has she not tried turf?

3. FLEETWOOD FUNNY (KY) (Distorted Humor X Awesome Again X Gone West) Trained by Fleetwood, this filly has 4 starts and is already graded placed. She broke her maiden on second asking then found her way to a 3rd place in G3 going 5.5 on dirt. She then attempted another graded race where she finished 4th in the G2 Hoserhead Fillies Juvenile. She posted an 81 speed and was closing before she got out closed. I think she could do well with the longer distance.

4. ONE IOTA (OK) (Omega Code X Ghostzapper X Seeking the Gold) This filly is trained by Dixidotc2, is one of the many local breeds he filled a few new stables with. This one paid off. Won easily in her first race a LB Maiden, then ran third in a G3. Then a 2nd on turf to give it a test then came back to win the G3 6 furlongs Whiskey Tango. She posted an 85 speed in that race and as amazing as that is, she still has to prove she can get just a bit more distance. Breeding suggests she could, but is a big jump from 6-7, Here is hoping.

5. ENGINE TWO CHIEF (NY) (Hook and Ladder X Chief Seattle X Seattle Dancer) Trained by Mattclooch, this New York Bred filly is trying both graded company and a new distance for the first time. She won her first race a Maiden Special Weight for New York bred fillies going 5.5. She then tried an open allowance where she finished a dismal 7th going 6 furlongs against the boys. Her best speed is a 69 and she will have to love the distance and improve her speed a lot to get in the money here.

6. SJ’S CANUCK (CAN) (Judiths Wild Rush X Unbridled X Round Table) This Canadian bred filly is trained by Thebigm, and might I add probably the best Canadian bred 2 year old I have seen. A lot of starts for a young horse filly and she has easily the most wins. This little girl is 5 wins for 5 starts. Undefeated in three allowance races and a stakes race. Has never gone seven furlongs but seemed very happy going 6.5 furlongs in the stakes race. She won posting an 85 speed and finishing almost two lengths in front. Very nice filly.

7. ANTIQUATED (KY) (Kodiak Kowboy X Elusive Quality X Capote) Trained by Dabears, this little filly ran initially in a MSW series for a residency placing 3rd and 4th. But since those races she broke her maiden, ran 2nd in an open allowance, then in her last race won an allowance going 7 furlongs. Having covered the distance of this race she posted an 83 in it and looks mighty tough here.

8. BETTER NATURE (KY) (Successful Appeal X Hennessy X A.P. Indy) this filly is trained by Simond2, has 6 starts and two wins to her name. A 6 furlong MSW and a 7 furlongs allowance where she posted a 79 and won easily. She then tried a graded start going 6 furlongs and finished 4th and closing. She likes the added distance and should be a benefit here.

9. HEADINGFORADIVORCE (KY) (Broken Vow X Distorted Humor X Deputy Minister) Trained by Blankpoin5, and with a name like that this filly is bound to be a success. She has run in 4 races, a MSW and allowance win to start it off both at 5 furlongs then two races at 6 both graded starts. In her first graded attempt she finished 4th. In her second she was a closing 2nd and by only a head. The next logical step is here. She posted an 83 in that last race and looks to be tough.

10. SUPER DARING (KY) (Tiznow X Forty Niner X Seattle Slew) This filly is trained by Super19, is beautifully bred but rather slow. A top speed of 70 does little to impress bettors. But if you take a closer look at her last start. A 7.5 allowance race she won yes with a 66 speed but also by over three lengths suggesting she can do much better. It took her three tries to break her maiden. Hopefully the 7 furlongs will help her break her stakes maiden first time out.

11. TEX TORNADO (KY) (Any Given Saturday X Deputy Minister X Gone West) Trained by Fatattack, I like the way this filly has been paced. This is a good step and a steady and successful progression for this horse. After a decent first start back in February this little girl has won every start. A 6 furlong allowance and MSW both by easy margins. Then another win last out in residency restricted stakes posting a 78 going 6 furlongs. Very nice filly should like the added distance.

Two year olds are too unpredictable to make a pick; anyone of these fillies could step up and easily win this race.
