Polish Damsire features 5
What a beautiful day for racing! Welcome to Ontario Canada where the weather is just perfect for racing. With a heat wave running through the United States this summer it feels good to be a little bit to the north where there is a pleasant breeze for some excellent racing. Today we have the Grade II Polish Damsire, with a purse of $300,000 on the line for today’s competitors. We have a field of 5 horses aged three and up for this race over a mile and a half on the firm turf. Let’s meet the field!
Out of the inside post we have PORTUGAL THE MAN representing the astinator stable from astins group representing the EAAA Racing residency. This 5 year old son of Sadler’s Wells is coming off a victory in a stakes race where he ran a 111 speed figure. In the past 2 years this horse has only finished out of the money one time, a 4th place finish in January of this year. For the long races that this guy runs he doesn’t like to fall terribly deep into the pack, just a few lengths back before coming up. There doesn’t seem to be a distance too long for this one. Hopefully this race is long enough. The odds are 5/2.
BAD MAGIC from the rblking1 stable and Universal stables group will be representing the Universal Racing club residency today. This 5 year old son of Trail City has a very odd distinction today. This horse has won multiple graded races this year and also won a 5k claim race this year. He did get claimed and ran a terrible 12th last time out for his new owner. This horse likes distance and also likes to take the lead right from the start. We will see if he has enough today. The Morning line is 10/1.
Our #3 horse today is the 5 year old Belong to Me horse DEPUTY CADE out of the litde stable and cadet group. This horse has a stakes win earlier this year and finished 5th in the Grade III Chicago Handicap last time out. His best speed figure of his life was at this distance in an allowance race earlier this year when he posted a blazing 112 . I am not sure if he has any closing ability or if he just runs as fast as he can at the start and either takes the lead or doesn’t. If he can match his continue his form he definitely has a chance. The morning line is 6/1.
The #4 hole will be occupied by THRACE out of the shadowclaw stable from Given Stables and the GR Simsters residency. This 5 year old son of Empire Maker is coming off a magnificent come from behind victory in the Grade II Dancing North Cup. That was the first Graded victory for this horse that has only ran less than a 100 speed figure once since 2008. He came from pretty far back last time but he tends to like to come from 6 lengths or less back for the victory. The morning line is 3/1 for this guy.
Our outside horse is also the favorite, with even odds, we have MONTE YOUN out of the monte1 stable and monte group representing the Midas residency. This horse is a very interesting tale. This 10 year old son of DoYoun was actually retired for 6 years before coming back as an 8 year old in 2008. Since that 6 year comeback, a feat in which he didn’t break his maiden until he was 8, he has won 4 Grade 1’s and another Graded race. This big gray horse will take off right from the start and give you everything it has the entire way. This will be one to watch.
This race is a very short field with a lot of really interesting stories. I am going to say that MONTE YOUN is going to wire the field today with THRACE finishing 2nd and PORTUGAL THE MAN coming in third.
Good luck to all the connections!
