Only 5 for the G2 Romanet

The Romanet
Grade II
A mile and one quarter
Firm Turf
$250,000
Fillies and mares, 4 years old and up
Only 5 will line up for the G2 Romanet. The Favorite, Ididntmeantoo has never won a graded race, but has placed in all 3 types of graded company. The longest shot in short field, Friday Harbor looks to go gate to wire as she looks to be the speed of the speed.

PP #1 Flap In The Wind-Street Sense x Storm Cat x Vaguely Noble, 4-1 with W Moss up (14.1%)
Stable: Hansg Stables (NA)
This filly out of the two time G3 winning mare February Storm and is a ½ sister to the G1 winning mare Filet Cheval. She has only made three starts this year, two in February and one in May, and has not won a race in over 13 months. Her last race the G3 RotoGuru Cup at 11 furlongs against the boys took place 15 weeks ago. She broke in mid pack but never showed any type of interest finishing last beat 16 lengths. But that race was off 10 weeks. If this filly raced more often I might like her, but she keeps getting extended layoffs and 15 weeks + 10 furlongs isn’t a good combination.

PP #2 Northern Stars-Montjeu x Kingmambo x Kris S., 4-1 with R Truitt up (18.6%)
Stable: Dixiedotco Racing (Pastures Of Green)
This mare whose he-mare was twice G1 placed, and whose grandam earned more than $2.5 million and won 3 G1’s. She got crushed last out by K’s Sophisticated who she will face again in this one. She raced in the G2 Hot Polly at 10 furlongs off only a 2 week break. She broke in the middle of a 7 horse field. But fell back from there on, and was eased in the stretch to finish 2nd to last. Before her last she had won two listed and two allowances by a combined 11 ½ lengths all at this one’s distance of 10 furlongs. She should be close to the leader early, and the rest could to her well, a possibility.

PP #3 Ididntmeantoo-Pivotal x Giant’s Causeway x Seattle Slew, with R Wilkinsonboro up8.1 (11.7%)
Stable: Desperado Stables (Blazing Saddles)
This filly last raced four weeks ago in the G2 Smart Dancer at 9 furlongs on a yielding turf course. She broke in the middle of the field in 6th. She moved into 4th at call two 4 lengths behind. She moved into 2nd to begin what looked to be a promising run, but flattened out to only finish 3rd beaten 4 with a nice 110 speed figure. Two back she raced in the G3 Mezzanotte at 10 furlongs. She was in mid pack for the first half of the race, and then move into 2nd only ¼ of a length from the lead at call 3. She took the lead for a second but was no match for the top 2 finishers. Will be in 3rd or 4th early, the class, the pick.

PP #4 Friday Harbor-Storm Cat x Danzig x Coastal, 5-1 with R Thieneman up (8.1%)
Stable: The Squirrel Empire (Comedy Central)
The longest shot in this short field will probably look to go gate to wire. Last out five weeks ago in the Busker Special she had a 4 length lead the 2nd call. But her lead diminished to only 1 ¾ at the 3rd call. She tired late to get 2nd beaten 3 ½. She got a 96 speed figure. This filly once placed in a G1 at 10 furlongs, but her form has regressed, as she hasn’t won a race in a year. Two back she raced in the Goat Farmer Stakes at 9 furlongs she had lead for a half but tired to finish last almost beaten 10. Might have the lead, but not for long.

PP #5 K’s Sophisticated-Sadler’s Wells x Seattle Slew x Nureyev, 5-2 with J Stivers up (24.7%)
Stable: Pompeya Thoroughbred Racing Corporation (Hispano Parlante)
Royally bred scratch bred Sadler’s Wells mare here. Another that is lightly raced this year only making 4 starts so far. Seven weeks ago in the G2 Hot Polly she stalked the pace early, she moved within 1 ½ of the lead at the 3rd call, and cruised home to win by 2 lengths with a 106 speed figure. Three back she raced in the G3 French Alley at 10 furlongs. She was in mid pack for the first 5 furlongs. She moved into 3rd at the 3rd call, and came with a good rally to take the lead but get passed at the line. She was 2nd beaten only ¾ of a length with a 105 speed. The pick for 2nd.

Morning Line: 3-5-1-2-4
