Newmarket Grade 3 filly and mares sprint attracts strong field.

This week I am in beautiful Newmarket for the running of The Fake Tree (Grade III, $150,000, 7 furlongs on the firm turf for fillies and mares 3 year old and up).  It is my first visit to this world famous course. From the start I will admit I have a mare Mya’s Birthday(KY) in this race.

On to the strong field of 8 participants in this exciting race:

PP#1  CIRCASIANA(KY) (GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x SEEKING THE GOLD x VICE REGENT) trained by Fersara with  jockey N Writer on board. Odds: 5/1. Turf sprint ranking: 28; Career earnings: $336,358.

5 year old mare with race record of 29 previous starts for 6-9-5. Has a top speed of sp 109 over 7.5 furlongs on the turf.

This mare has good recent form having being placed in 5 of her 6 runs in 2010. Having watched many of her previous races she appears to come flying home after being towards the rear of the field in the early running.

Winner of 1 stakes race in her career but placed in may graded and stakes races, she is after her first graded win in this race. In her early career appeared in 2 claiming races but was never claimed.

If she is near her best she will be flying home and will be right in the finish.

PP#2  ERENDIRA PROSPECT(ENG) (SHAMARDAL x SEATTLE SLEW x MR. PROSPECTOR) trained by Erendira  with  jockey J Bradley on board. Odds: 9/2. Turf sprint ranking: 30; Career earnings: $369,221

4 year old filly with race record of 16 previous starts for 6-2-2. Has a top speed of sp 110 over 7 furlongs on the firm turf.

Had her first 3 starts on dirt before finding her love of turf. This mare is a front runner and I expect to see her lead in this race.

Winner of  3 of her last 5 starts including a led all the way win in the Grade 3 The Charted Well. Will be at the front and will prove hard to beat.

PP#3   SHE MIGHT BE GIANT(KY) (GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x SEEKING THE GOLD x DANEHILL) trained by Gradeone with  jockey A Craig on board. Odds: 4/1. Turf sprint ranking: 10; Career earnings: $1,144,180

Four year old filly with race record of 26  previous starts for 13-2-1.  Top speed of sp 111 over 7.5 furlongs on the turf.

Winner of 4 graded races in her career. Equal favourite for today’s race and goes into the race as the best ranked horse and winner of the most prize money.

She is the second horse in the race that is sired by Giant’s Causeway. From grade B game dam Bit of a Ruse, who has 3 offspring all at least stakes placed.

This filly can mix up her racing style; either coming from the rear or racing at the front. She is the best credentialed runner in the field and looks the one to beat.

PP#4   MYA’S BIRTHDAY(KY)  (GONE WEST x OCTAGONAL(NZ) x HALO) trained by Scbjw with  jockey W Laird on board. Odds:8/1. Turf sprint ranking: 88; Career earnings: $151,025

Four year old filly with 10  previous starts for 3-3-2. Top speed of sp 107 over 7 furlongs on the turf.

My filly in this race. She has been placed 3 times at graded company. Outsider in the betting, lowest ranked runner and has won the least prize-money of all the entries.

Seriously looking at the calibre of the other trainers in this race I feel honoured to have a horse in the same race.

Yet to race at stakes level, I am taking the advice of my friends at Queensland Racecourse who advised me to keep running her at graded level. She will race near the front and I hope will be in the finish but this field may prove too tough.

PP#5   JOBBB PETE(KY) (POINT GIVEN x SECRETARIAT x AFFIRMED) trained by Doodlesgbs  with  jockey L Anderson on board. Odds:7/1. Turf sprint ranking: 81; Career earnings: $295,108

6 year old mare with 29 previous starts for 8-2-4. Top speed of sp 107 over 7 furlongs on the turf.

Winner at stakes level and placed in graded company. The oldest mare in today’s race. Watching her previous starts she appears to race best either at mid field or near the front.

Is capable of winning this race but I prefer others.

PP#6   SUPERHEROINE(KY) (STORM CAT x A.P. INDY x SADLER’S WELLS) trained by Sweetnan with  jockey T Cooper on board. Odds: 6/1. Turf sprint ranking: 66;  Career earnings: $475,009

5 year old mare with race record of 27 previous starts for 7-8-5. Top speed of sp 107 over 6 furlongs on the turf. Winner of 2 graded 3 level races including the recent Grade 3 The Chasing Carl.

Fantastic breed mare, really I can’t fault her bloodline.  After viewing her past runs she appears to me to run best near the front.

Has good recent form and must be amongst the hardest to beat.

PP#7   JUMBO JACKPOT(KY) (DYNAFORMER x SEEKING THE GOLD x NORTHERN DANCER) trained by Lenny 12 with  jockey A Tuscha on board. Odds: 5/1. Turf sprint ranking: 51 ; Career earnings: $378,516

4 year old filly with 22 previous starts for 8-5-3. Top speed of sp 109 over 7 furlongs on the turf.

Last start winner of the G3 The Brownstone in which she recorded her best ever SP. From grade B game dam; Compensation who has provided 2 graded winners from her first 4 foals.

Has had 6 runs in 2010 for 3 wins and 2 place finishes. Would appear to be at the top of her powers.

Is my tip for the race and is the one to beat.

PP#8   CORPORATE CAT(FL) (CONGRATS x RAHY x STORM CAT) trained by Plugger with  jockey RT Salo on board. Odds: 4/1. Turf sprint ranking: 41 ; Career earnings: $347,245

4 year old filly with 22 previous starts for 8-5-4. Top speed of sp 109 over 6.5 furlongs on the turf.

Is another who started her career on the dirt but appears to be best on the turf. Is equal favourite for this race in the pre post market.

Have 7 starts in 2010 for 3 wins and 3 places, including a win in the G3 – The Saphire.

Is another who can mix up her running style. Looking at her previous races she seems comfortable at being in any position in a race be it the rear, middle or front.

Must be considered a top contender in this strong field.

TIPS

This race is hard to judge, a very strong case can be made for almost every horse in this strong field.  All the very best to all the trainers in this race. I think the winner of this race and many of the runners will go onto to have great careers.

Onto the tips, and these are more hopeful guesses in this very even race:

1.      JUMBO JACKPOT(KY)

2.     CORPORATE CAT(FL)

3.      SHE MIGHT BE GIANT(KY)

4.      SUPERHEROINE(KY)
