Fourteen Go For The Gold (Written by Shilohfire)
We’ve got a full field of beautiful and talented ladies lined up for what looks to be a tough race. So sit back, read on and I’ll giveyou a preview of what’s in store.
In PP 1 we have Dream League, a Bernadini daughter trained by reddog. Only a 3yo, she is the youngest in the field, and this will be her first time facing older mares. She won a G1 last time outpulling away with a speed of 106, and has an impressive record of 6 wins from 9races. A wonderful 3yo filly, but will she be able to handle the older competition?
Starting from PP 2 is Paradise Starlet trained by sparadise. This daughter of Vindication is regularly seen in the Graded levels, but her last win was a G2 seven starts back. Look for her to move from the back of the pack to challenge in the stretch.
PP 3 brings us Black Flag Flying trained by simsters1. This nicely bred mare by A.P. Indy is one of the four favorites listed at 7/1 odds and has been either 1st or 2nd in her last six starts. She won the BB Distaff as a 3yo and has shown up for many important sim races. She stands a good chance of making it to the wire ahead of the rest.
Empire Haack, the second of the four favorites, starts from PP 4. Marisol trains this lovely filly by Empire Maker. Ranked at 11, this filly boasts someblazing speed. However, her last two starts seem to have been troubled, she will need to put forth a little more effort to win this race. If this filly runs her best on race day, watch out, there will be no catching her!
What’s The Word? Our PP 5 horse! (insert laugh here) Ok, not that funny, I know, so back to the horses… Persuader trains another nicely bred A.P. Indy daughter, the number 4 dirt classic ranked mare and runner up of last year’s BB Distaff. She slouched off a little after that, but looks to be improving by her last few starts. She could be one to challenge for the win.
Moving along to PP 6 we have Reincarnation coming off an allowance win. This Pivotal daughter, trained by hibatchi, is no stranger to the Graded game. With that easy win on the turf last time out, she should be ready to tear up the dirt Saturday.
In PP 7 we have Wit Beyond Measure, a lightly raced Awesome Again daughter trained by checkmate4. Another filly who boasts blazing speed, and seems to be at the top of her game. She wired the field last time out to win a G1with a 111, making that her 2nd win in row, and 3rd win out of four runs.
Poison Arrow, a Bluegrass Cat daughter trained by kevoman5, will be starting from PP 8. After a couple wins, she had a little trouble at the G1 level last out, but is giving it another go here. She has the speed and experience to make a good run.
Starting from PP 9 is Slave To Ambition, the number 1 ranked dirt classic mare and the third of our 7/1 favorite “foursome”. The Distorted Humor daughter trained by gwyneth is the winner of last year’s BB Distaff, and a strong contender for the win here.
PP 10 brings us Vaes Dothrak, another nice filly by Distorted Humor, trained by stormborn2. This talented filly has won 3 of her 6 starts for 2010, but has yet to win at the graded level this year. She’s going to try and change that with this race.
Heading out to PP 11, we come across Crossthecauseway, the oldest of the group at 6. This Giant’s Causeway daughter trained by 0023 has used those years of experience to her advantage never finishing less than third in her last 9 starts, and being ITM an amazing 34 of 41 lifetime races, many of which were at the stakes and graded level. She knows how to get the job done, and get it done right.
Mav176 brings StenoBook by Storm Cat to PP 12. Dirt Classic ranked number 9, all but one of this mare’s previous 8 races have been G1s. She’s posted 104s her last three races, but will need to pick up the pace if she wants a piece of the pie here, as she has yet to win a race this year.
In PP 13 we have trainer pazthree’s entry, Streetsmart Prayer. Sired by Street Sense, this mare has shown some real talent in her last few races. She won last time out in a G1 with a 111, coming from over 14 furlongs back at one point and winning by 2 1/2. She will be right there when they cross the wire.
And finally, PP 14 gives us a peek at dormello’s Bathsheba II. The squeaky clean daughter of Rock Hard Ten is our final 7/1 favorite. With 2 wins from her last 3 starts, and a 3rd last time out in a G1, this bathing beauty is a dangerous contender.
So there we have our 14 hopefuls for this year’s running of the G1 Go For The Gold Stakes. I’ll give my best educated guess at the top 3 finishers.
1st – Wit Beyond Measure
2nd – Streetsmart Prayer
3rd – The Word
