The Louisiana Review
RODOTs
Dundey’s The Sigma Derby(LA) posted a nice wire to wire victory in the rodot local bred race, shipping in from Nevada and switching back to the turf. Brahms/Storm Cat/Carson City is a fairly sporty breeding line for a LA bred.
Two 2yo msw’s were held for fillies, both at six panels over the lawn and both resulting in wins of 1:12. Tazdevil’s sheedy93 barn sent out Arcane Barrage(AUS) for her 3rd start in her brief career, and the switch to grass woke up the daughter of Beaufort Scale as she stormed home at 11/1 odds. Gowans collected the other win with Crafty Cuban(KY), from the bsben stable, also relishing a move from the dirt course. Top jockey F Oxon was up for the win.
SATURDAY
Big And Awesome(LA), from Derbydave’s gemangels barn, loafed home for a local bred win at 12 furlongs in a pedestrian 2:39 3/5, soundly defeating my 1/9 runner that gave up about halfway through 🙂
In 2yo action, sjmeola’s Lewis Micheal filly Wemissyoujordan(KY) held off the late surge of Storm Peak(KY), and Abebe Bikila(IRE) from Newmarket’s grenoble72 stable scored at a robust 11/1 over longshot Lunar King(KY).
The secondary stakes on the card, The JOAN PROJECT Challenge, was taken by the royally bred Rebel Ring(KY). The 5yo Storm Cat horse, from the ceclaim20 barn, enjoyed the drop from graded company and posted an easy 1 3/4 length win under A Jolly, covering the 6.5 furlongs in 1:14 4/5.
In this week’s feature, the GII JAZZ FEST, Kevoman’s Island Parade(ENG) scored his second consecutive graded victory. The talented Dansili colt moved swiftly up the rail, catching Tex Cat in the stretch, to win by 1.5 lengths, the same margin of victory he posted in the GIII Double Barreled Mile in his previous start, at the nearby TX track. Not surprisingly, veteran rider F Oxon coaxed a lifetime best spf of 115 from the colt, who seems to love racing in the southern US.
F Oxon picked up 4 wins on saturday, and another in the rodot’s. No owner, at least through linked stables, posted multiple wins on saturday.
