5/1

Minnesota entry – 5yo scratch bred horse by Dynaformer.  This horse is a part of 1/1A entry by the owner; the #5 horse is the counterpart.  This particular horse’s claim to fame is his impressive 1st time out maiden win.  At just RTG as most 1st outs are, this horse broke his maiden at 11f, winning gate to wire.  He than went on to win four times as a 4yo; all from nine to sixteen furlongs on the grass.  Since turning five, he hasn’t done much in the way of coming close to winning.  A tough task to ask of a horse that appears out of condition.  However, he’s guaranteed a check in this short field.

Non resident entry – 5yo out of an “F” rated mare and sired by Beat Hollow.  The mare was successful on dirt.  This horse was claimed in a md20000 race by the present owner in Feb. of ’08.  He then ran in claimers, str. Allow, and allowance races till his tag ran out.  He has shown to be slightly better on turf than dirt as per his momma.  His listed stakes wins were on dirt, but has had some decent races on turf.  Distance is no barrier as seven of his fourteen wins have been at 16f.  Although a former claimer, the horse has amassed almost ½ mil in earnings.  With one second place finish in a G2, he has a legitimate chance here.

Universal RC entry – 4yo colt out of a “H” rated mare and sired by Shakespeare.  The colt started his career rather slowly.  He was eventually placed in claimers; won, and that started a spark.  After winning multiple str. Allow races he won a couple of listed stakes events.  One of these being his last out at 11.5f.  The colt has never been beyond 13f. in his career, so we really don’t know what to expect from him here.  Shakespeare didn’t live up to the hype as a 2yo sire, but seems his progeny in the sim take a while to mature.  There appears to be a fairly bright future for the 4yo.

Great Plains entry – 5yo horse out of a “C” rated mare and sired by Trail City who is no longer eligible to breed.  This horse was bred in the best year of this sire’s progeny.  But he had to earn that distinction the hard way coming from the $5,000 claiming ranks.  He’s on his third owner right now and a bargain purchase for sure.  He has won four races for his present owner including a G3 and G2 in his last two starts!!  A front runner by nature with the ability to a least go 14f.  He has had one graded race at today’s distance and faired OK, as he was against tougher.  He should be part of the pace today.

Minnesota entry – This is the second part of the 1/1A entry which is combined with the #1 horse.  This 6yo scratch bred horse by Dynaformer is probably going to have his counterpart try to soften up the pace makers so he can make his charge at the turn for home.  The horse is a multiple listed stakes winner with a powerful late move.  He deserves favorite status and the owner has set this race up in his favor.  He’s coming off two SP100+ races and is by far the fastest of these.  No excuses here.
