Who will rise when The Sun goes Down
The weather is warming up and so is the racing in beautiful Surrey. The feature race on this weeks card is THE SUNDOWN MILE a Grade 2 affair over the mile. The turf has come up firm for a small but select field of 6 evenly matched horses.
1. ZECO DE LAGO(AUS) – loisblack – D Aniel 4/1
A consistent son of Encosta De Lago this 4yo handles a mile but struggles to get any further so can sometimes be found wanting in strong fields. His last start 6th in a NZ Gp 3 snapped a run of 3 straight wins. The small field helps and the likelihood is he will sit midfield and go very close.
2. NOTHIN’ TO PLUNDER(IRE) – stormboot – T Nugent 5/2
The return to form of this 4yo son of Excellent Art(GB) in his last two starts would have been a relief to his trainer and there is no reason why 3 in a row is not out of the question. The fly in the ointment could be the pressure he is likely to get early doors from the 3 horse who has a penchant for front running. A big run last time on a wet track may see him bounce a little also.
3. DIPSTICK(KY) – acote2 – M Myers 7/1
The outsider of the field and deservedly so. This well bred 5yo is better placed in allowance races and 7/1 looks a little short to me. A long time out of the winners stall but could be an important factor in the race if he uses his early speed to set up the race for a closer.
4. SENOR ANZIO – elranchoti – R Whisper 5/2
This multiple group winner is the veteran of the field but is still more than capable. He has struggled a little since his run in the Breeders Bowl however he has still been working home nicely. The shorter break may help but the question remains whether a slightly longer trip would be more suitable these days.
5. BLAZING NOBILITY(KY) – megablaze – R Harzheim 5/1
A first attempt at group level for this 4yo son of Noble Causeway and why not. He is very consistent over a number of trips even though slightly shorter might be his preference. Will no doubt sit just behind the leaders but may find the last little bit a tough ask.
6. KEPLER H(IRE) – marre – T Rumber 3/1
Only 6 wins from 26 starts and his form overall not the greatest but a repeat of his 2nd placing in the recent G1 Hispano America would make this son of Rock of Gibraltar(IRE) hard to beat. Will sit at the rear and close late.
Conclusion
The query of the race is whether or not the 2 horse can get pressured for the lead, if not the race could be at his mercy however I think the 4 is primed for a return to the winners stall in a tight one.
