Short Field for German Fillies Guineas
This weekend’s feature race in Germany is The Grade 2 $250,000 1000 Guineas going a mile on the firm turf course. The race is open to three year old fillies and the connections of five girls have accepted the invitation. Here is a look at the field from the rail out.
FIT TO FINISH (KY) 6/1 Divisional Rank: 480
3 year old filly
(CRYPTOCLEARANCE x SHARPEN UP(GB) x GREY DAWN II)
Jockey: S Marx ( 77 – 12 – 11 – 10 – 16% )
Record: (3: 2-0-1) $39,752 Turf: (3: 2-0-1) $39,752
Best Speed Figure: 93
This filly is the longest shot on the morning line, and the least experienced member of this field with only three career starts. After winning first time out going 6.5 furlongs this late running daughter of Cryptoclearance was then third against allowance company next out at 7 furlongs, before winning last time out going a mile. She figures to improve with racing, and she should also enjoy the longer distances. However this is a tough spot for only her fourth outing; even with only four opponents.
METEORE (KY) 2/1 Divisional Rank: 172
3 year old filly
(DISTORTED HUMOR x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x SADLER’S WELLS)
Jockey: T Small ( 270 – 84 – 55 – 37 – 31% )
Record: (5: 2-2-0) $63,310 Turf: (5: 2-2-0) $63,310
Best Speed Figure: 96
This filly’s only off the board finish in five career starts came on soft turf in February, and luckily for her connections the rains have stayed away this weekend. She rebounded after that poor effort to finish a gutsy second four weeks ago in The Danzing Groom Memorial. In that 8.5 furlong event she led most of the way, and opened up a big lead on the backstretch only to tire late and hold on for second money. If that effort hasn’t taken too much out of her then she should be primed for another big effort on Saturday.
ROZELLE TREASURE (KY) 4/1 Divisional Rank: 175
3 year old filly
(GHOSTZAPPER x GONE WEST x DANZIG)
Jockey: C Strehl ( 60 – 16 – 6 – 9 – 27% )
Record: (8: 4-0-1) $90,278 Turf: (4: 4-0-0) $85,920
Best Speed Figure: 100
Here is a filly that has created quite a buzz on the backstretch this week. After four less than stellar starts on the dirt to begin her career, this brown daughter of Ghostzapper has reeled off four successive victories on the grass since. Not only is she unbeaten on the turf, but she is also the owner of the highest speed rating in this field. That number of 100 was recorded five weeks ago when she beat four allowance opponents going a mile. She tackles Stakes company for the first time on Saturday and many punters believe 4/1 odds is a steal for what very well maybe a rising star.
KEPLER PROCHANT (KY) 8/5 Divisional Rank: 25
3 year old filly
(WAR CHANT x MR. PROSPECTOR x SEATTLE SLEW)
Jockey: A Mack ( 31 – 2 – 5 – 7 – 6% )
Record: (12: 5-2-2) $236,332 Turf: (11: 5-1-2) $234,382
Best Speed Figure: 99
The morning line favourite, the highest ranked and most experienced horse in the field, and the only Graded Stakes winner. However, this front running daughter of War Chant will not have it all her own way in here. She figures to have company early on from Meteor, and the turf will be hard and fast on Saturday. The firm ground could be a major disadvantage for this filly whose best runs have come over courses with some ease in the going. Her connections were praying for rain but they are still hopeful their filly’s class will see her through.
CHOOSE UP SIDES (AUS) 3/1 Divisional Rank: 256
3 year old filly
(REDOUTE’S CHOICE (AUS) x PIVOTAL(GB) x UNBRIDLED)
Jockey: E Bernstein ( 221 – 36 – 40 – 51 – 16% )
Record: (6: 4-1-1) $119,354 Turf: (6: 4-1-1) $119,354
Best Speed Figure: 91
This Aussie has been on a tear this year, winning all four of her trips to the post. Four weeks ago she made her Stakes debut a winning one by beating four outclassed rivals in The PGPG’s Filly Memorial going 7.5 furlongs. She steps up in both class and distance on Saturday and her connections will be hoping her stellar early season form continues. Her best efforts have come sprinting, but she was able to win her lone one mile try against non winners of two allowance company. The one mile test will be a lot tougher against this group.
