EWC SIRE SHOWCASE II

With less than 2 weeks to go before the 2nd leg of THE EWC SIRE SHOWCASE II !!
A 2-race series for 2yr olds with an EWC track tag (FL, LA, AK, OH, IN, MI, OR, CAN, OK, ENG, GB, WI, SD, NF, JPN, DB, TZ, RI, DC, KOR, AT), THE EWC SIRE SHOWCASE I (week 4246) was contested at 6 furlongs on dirt and, because of a computer glitch, was run in two heats at two tracks: CA & NF; with the following results:

CALIFORNIA (trainer) (points earned)

1.) SJ’S CANUCK(CAN)#83731 (thebigm) (5points)
2.) GILDED TOMB(OH)#82525 (rocket724) (4 points)
3.) MALIBU SECRETS(IN)#45238 (hemarfarms) (3 points)
4.) LOOTERS(LA)#82477 (lordpye4) (2 points)
5.) FLAG DEFFERED(JPN)#67292 (sjmeola4) (1 point)

NORTH FLORIDA (trainer) (points earned)

1.) SO SHY CONNECTION(GB)#66254 (recnritchie) (5 points)
2.) JEWEL TB(KOR)#111241 (hemarfarm2) (4 points)
3.) CATCH YOUR WAVE(CAN)#67058 (calumet) (3 points)
4.) SHOW WILLING(JPN)#60623 (issybaby) (2 points)
5.) MEDICINE BOW(FL)#62811 (smubholdem) (1 point)

Having 2 heats in the first leg of the competition has made the 2nd leg (week 4281), at North Florida at 6 furlongs on the turf, even more relevant and has left us with a wide open scramble for the SHOWCASE points Title & Prize Horse! What strategy will the trainers use? Run the same horse back? Breed a new horse for the turf? And what will the winning trainers do for a replacement runner? Well, lets take a look at the early nominations and try to it figure out.

1.) KASH TRANSFER(JPN)#79008
ZENNO ROB ROY x HONEST PLESURE x CZARAVICH
Trainer: kashbarn3

By the obscure Japanese sire ZENNO ROB ROY with a nice Dam Sire line. Finished a well beaten 10th in the North Florida heat.

2.) KASH IN THE BANK(JPN)#71140
WAR EMBLEM x SEATTLE SLEW x ASSERT
Trainer: kashbarn3

By high percentage sire WAR EMBLEM (66.7% winners – 3.7% SW) and out of Game Dam FAST SLEW (6 wins) by SEATTLE SLEW. A half sister to 2 Stakes winners, her bottom line suggests, she will be able to handle the turf. Finished 7th in the California heat.

3.) JEWEL TB(KOR)#111241
ONE COOL CAT x CANNY LAD x BEAU ZAM
Trainer: hemarfarm2

By a son of the great STORM CAT and the first foal out of Game Dam LASTRY (6 wins). Dam line doesn’t offer much hope. Finished 2nd in North Florida division at odds of 19-1.

4.) ROCKETEER TB(CAN)#193331
CAPE CANAVERAL x RUNAWAY GROOM x CHEROKEE RUN
Trainer: hemarfarm2

A scratchbred daughter of the MR PROSPECTOR stallion CAPE CANAVERAL (57.5% winners) and the BLUSHING GROOM Iinebreeding suggests she will be able to handle the turf. First time starter.

5.) GILDED TOMB(OH)#82525
KING TUTTA x GILDED TIME x PHONE TRICK
Trainer: rocket724

By the Ohio based A.P. INDY stallion KING TUTTA (45.7% winners – $18,789 /rnr) and the 6th foal out of Game Dam TRICK TIME. Finished 2nd in the California Division. Not much to suggest that she will handle the turf. She also may suffer from jet lag, shipping in from California!

6.) JUDY’S WILD SCREW(CAN)#4437
JUDITH’S WILD RUSH x ROY x MOCITO GUAPO
Trainer: emanone

By first year stallion JUDITH’S WILD RUSH (16.7% winners) – “Canada’s first million-dollar sire” as stated by sjmeola, and the third foal out of the Stakes placed Game Dam SCREW SOARING (6 wins) by ROY. Finisherd 6th, beaten just 3-1/4 lengths, in the North Florida Division with no real reason to think she will move up on the turf.

7.) CHAMPS GIRL TB(GB)#101460
CHAMPS ELYSEES x CAME HOME x SADLER’S WELLS
Trainer: issybaby

By first year stallion CHAMPS ELYSEES (6.7% winners -100% turf earnings). The only foal from the Stakes-winning he-mare CAMEHOMEWELL (12 wins). By CAMEHOME: as a Dam Sire (63.7% winners – 4.5% SW – 45% turf earnings). DD-Sire SADLER’S WELLS (80.1% winners – 10.7% SW – 71% turf earnings). First time starter. SLEEPER!!

With only a limited number of early nominations, it appears that for the most part, the trainers are sticking to their guns and running back the same horses, with 2 exceptions (#4 & #7). Of the 5 returning horses, you have the runners-up of both races and 4 also-rans from 2 mediocre heats (time wise), with little or no turf breeding to speak of – which, in my opinion, leaves the door wide open for the first timers.

It is also not too late to join us at EWC Residency for a chance to win the Horse that will be raffled off to any new member who joins during the series, with the EWC TRIPLE CROWN CHALLENGE right around the corner!

Hope to see you soon!
