Florida Derby – A Textbook Ride for a Derby Lock win

BEGONE OASIS, getting a textbook ride from 19-year veteran rider D Ferguson, made a big move in heavy traffic on the turn to get close, then hit the afterburners late to earn a trip to Kentucky on the first Saturday in May in the “Derby Lock” Grade 1 Florida Derby last weekend.

“Needless to say, I’m pretty geeked-up about my colt right now. I hope he keeps his edge for the Derby… If she does, we’ll be there with bells on!”, said trainer prufrock.

The Oasis Dream colt’s backers in the stands were pretty excited, too; understandably because he was 10/1 on the board.

An even bigger surprise at 14/1 was the place finisher, STARS OF BUDA. The Fusachi Pegasus colt showed that his win last time in the G3 Scam Stakes was no fluke, and it would be no surprise to see joanneb get this one to the starting gate in six weeks in Louisville.

The two surprises on top contributed to a $378 Exacta for the happy winning horseplayers.

Highly-regarded FLAME OF APOLLO closed rapidly to get the show dough, and super8‘s colt certainly didn’t play himself out of a plane ride to Louisville with his strong effort.

Fourth and fifth-placers RELAX STORM and WOETTE’S POTT also have their trainers dreaming of a Derby spot after their strong efforts.

Only 6 weeks before the big day, and only 20 spots in the big race… Who will get the next Derby Lock?
