DANGEROUS WATERS TO SWAMP THEM IN THE RANDY VET
As the southern hemisphere summer departs and autumn sets in with it comes two definites, cooler weather and quality racing and there is no better exampl of the latter than this years running of the The Randy Vet Grade II, a race for the ladies 4yo and up over a mile and three sixteenths or 1900 metres in metric terms. Without further ado let’s look at the combatants.
1 – DANGEROUS WATERS – billiam40 – 3/1 – Returned to her brilliant best last time out with a blousing finish to win the Tolerant Tide Special over 9 furlongs running an eye catching SP# of 117. Had struggled in the three starts before all at grade 1 level including the Breeders Bowl. Is a winner of 10 from 25 and has ammassed over the magical $1 million mark in prizemoney. Has the services of in form jockey J. Cox which is also in her favour. This race looks custom made for her and if she repeats her last start effort she will take some tossing.
2 – SKY’S GRAY – rlogan – 9/1 – Has very solid form at this distance albeit it mainly in slightly easier races. Rarely misses the top 3 in her allowances races but is yet to really stamp her authority on top level racing and looks to have the task ahead of her here. Take on trust.
3 – KATE’S POINT – maxibar – 6/1 – a specialist at this distance who won three on end before a grade 1 failure. Followed this up with a fading 3rd at this trip last start and should be fitter for the run. At her very best she is a chance in this even affair.
4 – ICE CAP GAL – sampsonfarm – 10/1 – Has a relatively poor win strike rate with just 2 wins from 21 starts but has earned just uner half a million dollars in the process with 9 second placings, many of them at top level including Grade 1. Likes to get back and run on in the stretch bu also appears to like trips closer to a mile and a half and may find this a little too short when the whips are cracking. Rough place hope.
5 – PADDLE STEAMER – foxon5 – 9/1 – Has not missed a top 3 finish at her past 5 outings all at stakes level. A daughter of Green Desert, she races to varying tactics and appears versatile in that respect. She was particularly unlucky not to salute last time out and will be keen to atone today. trainer foxon5 says she is “primed to produce her best” and only time will tell if that is enough.
6 – GONE FOR IT – olwhisper – 5/1 – a 6yo daughter of Gone West who has won on 14 occasions. Was unstoppable in Allowances races between 8 and 9 furlongs before a 2nd and 4th in stakes events at her las two. This sort of class of race will be an acid test for her and I’d be prepared to risk her just at this stage.
7 – SKULLCRUSHER – given2 – 5/1 – A winner of 15 races, this daughter of Awesome Again, had a string of top 3 finishes before being beaten a long way in Grade 1 company last start. Has shown immense ability in the past including a Grade 1 win at this journey. On that alone she ,ust be considered a chance but she will need to be producing something close to her best and improve sharply on her last start effort. Stick with her.
8 – UNDUE CAUSE – vansheen – 7/1 – a Galileo 6yo mare who is never far from the action at the business end of proceedings. Loves this distance and has only put in one bad run at her last 8 outings. Look for her to sit in the second half of the field and wind up as they swing for home. Place chances look good.
9 – FAMOUS INDY – peeps7 – 7/1 – A regally bred 5yo mare (A.P Indy x Sadlers Wells x Gone West) who won 4 on end including the Grade 1 “The Friendly Wager” before failing to impress at her last 3 starts where she has been beaten a long way in all 3. Last start showed small glimpses of improvement and the engagement of top jockey D Evans is a bonus. Her class is obvious but her form is down. Today may be the day it returns.
My selections are 1-9-8 in an open affair.
Good Luck and Good Punting
