G1, Vermillion Stakes

Today we are headed to Paris for the running of the G1, Vermillion Stakes. The race is restricted to 3 year old and older fillies and mares only. This Saturday after noon they will travel 12 furlongs over the firm turf in their effort to make it to the finish line first. The race has drawn eleven entries with a field that maybe difficult in finding the winners at the betting windows. The morning line odds and post positions have been released. Let us now take a preview of the eleven horses that will make the start in the G1, Vermillion Stakes in Paris.

Making her way out first will be this 5 year old Bay Mare (SEA THE STARS x MONTJEU x KINGMAMBO ) that is out of the HOF, EOY award winning mare, Outback Voyager that has produced several graded winning foals and that would include this one. Two starts back she would pick up a graded win in the G3, The Far and Away. She would then make her most recent start in Surrey going 12 furlongs in the G1, Yolkshire Oaks. This would be a very difficult and disappointing race for her when she crossed the wire in seventh over fifteen lengths back with a 98 speed rating. She will be facing another tough crowd here in Paris and needs a big rebounding effort representing the Down Under Racing residency.

Here we have a 3 year old Bay Filly (STREET SENSE x GALILEO (IRE) x REDOUTE’S CHOICE ) that had been running well for the owner earlier in the season and picked up the win in the G2, Light Times Stakes. In her most recent starts she has been having difficulty finding the boards. Her most recent start was in New South Wales going 6 furlongs in the G2, Silver Silhouette Stakes. She was putting up some effort, but it was too little too late when she crossed the wire in eighth with a 94 speed rating. The odds makers have concerns about her not being proven at the distance and that she is a 3 year old stepping up against older horses. For these reasons she will be the longest choice in the morning line when she heads to her post representing the East-West Connection residency.

Next, is this 5 year old Bay Mare (RAGING BULL x SHAMARDAL x DANZIG ) that was doing well running claiming races for the owner. She was then moved to another stable by the same owner and started running in stakes starts. Thus far this has not worked well for her as we see in her most recent start in Idaho going 8 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Norman Dancer Turf Mare Mile. Out of the gate she found a spot in sixth and that is the spot which she crossed the wire with a 100 speed rating. She is taking a big jump up in class and distance here in Paris when she heads over to her gate representing the Elite Racing Club residency.

This is a 5 year old Brown Mare (CATAPULT x DEEP IMPACT x UNBRIDLED’S SONG ) that is a prior G3 winner from last season. This season back in January she would get third in the G3, Skip to the End Stakes. She has also had several Listed Stakes wins this season to her credit. In her most recent start in Ohio, she would travel 12 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Frisco Shocker Turf Mare Memorial. She would be all business in this start as she nailed down the lead at the third call and would go on to win by a head at the wire with a 108 speed rating. She has proven she can go this 12 furlong distance and is moving back up in class to see if she can get another win against graded company when she is sent out representing the Midas residency.

Next, we will see this 6 year old Bay Mare (SOQRAT (AUS) x AGNES TACHYON x GREEN DESERT ) that has been running well this season for the owner with only one off the boards start. In her most recent start in Queensland, she would go 10.5 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Kikis Moon Dancer Turf Mare Route. She stayed well back in the early going but by the third call she had weaved into third. Down the stretch along with jockey R Dowell in the saddle, they timed it perfect to get her up for the win by a head with a 110 speed rating. Look for her to be late on arrival in the stretch if she fires this weekend in Paris when she heads out of the paddock to the cheers of an excited crowd.

Here we have a 4 year old Bay Filly (DUBAWI (IRE) x A.P. INDY x SADLER’S WELLS ) that is out of the HOF, EOY wining mare, Dynawells. This filly has been dipping her hoofs into graded waters but has yet to pick up a win. Her most recent win was in May of this year in the Slavers Bay Turf Mare Stayer. Her most recent start would be in Queensland where she would travel 12 furlongs in the Equinics-Manikato Stakes. The track was wet and listed as “good” and this horse did not seem to care for the track conditions and would cross the wire well back in seventh with a 100 speed rating. She will get some nice firm turf here in Paris which should help when she breaks from her gate representing the European Union Racing Organization.

7TRIED SO HARDIRE4Fasrblue1N Labreche16444%$1,502,31272.008/1

Next, is this 4 year old Bay Filly (ST MARK’S BASILICA x DUBAWI (IRE) x SADLER’S WELLS ) that is no stranger to making graded starts. Two starts back she was second in the G3, The Noble Spirit. Also during her career, she is a multiple G1 winner. In her most recent start in Ireland the timing was all off with Ar Schultz in the saddle. She would come up short in this race over eight lengths back in fourth when she hit the wire with a 106 speed rating. This filly has the stamina for these long starts and likes to close late. Watch for her as she may be watching you when she heads out representing the Orphan Racing residency.

This is a 5 year old Chestnut Mare (JUSTIFY x SADLER’S WELLS x A.P. INDY ) that would earn her GP badge when she came in second on a wet track in the G2, The Epicenter. She would then make her most recent start in Deauville going 10 furlongs in the G2, The Romanet. She would have an off day and never found good footing when she crossed the wire well back in tenth with a 101 speed rating. She will be headed out this Saturday, and the owner would like to see a little better performance in this trip representing the Orphan Racing residency.

Here we have a 4 year old Bay Fill (DUBAWI (IRE) x I AM INVINCIBLE (AUS) x DEEP IMPACT ) that two starts back would pick up the win in the Sharp Ivor Turf Mare Route. She would then head to Newmarket for her most recent start going 10 furlongs in the G1, The Friendly Wager. She looked good in the early going of the race when she jumped out of the gate and took the early lead. But by the third call she was starting to slip back and would have an unsuccessful stretch run and cross the wire well back in ninth with a 103 speed rating. I do not see she has ever had a start over 10.5 furlongs, so will going 12 furlongs on Saturday be an issue when she heads over to her gate representing the Orphan Racing residency.

10ATOMIC IMPACTENG5FmysterycatP Harzheim251180%$612,86148.504/1

Next, we have this 5 year old Bay Mare (FRANKEL (GB) x DUBAWI (IRE) x DEEP IMPACT ) that has several stakes wins and placings this season. One of her best starts would be her most recent when she headed out in Ireland traveling 12 furlongs in the G3, The Giving Thanks. She took a good spot in third out of the gate and by the third call had moved into the lead by over three lengths. She would hold on down the stretch and get to the wire first by almost four strides with a 113 speed rating. This mare has looked good this season with only one off the boards start. She will be in the hunt for another hit if she can bring her speed forward as she moves up in class to represent the Empire State Racing residency.

11YOUR GREAT MAYBEIRE5FjoplusS L Ledwith23761%$634,76533.008/1

Breaking from the outside gate we have this 5 year old Chestnut Mare (NEW BAY x AWESOME AGAIN x KRIS S. ) that had been making all of her starts on the dirt track. That is until she transitioned over to try out the turf in her most recent start in Deauville. She would travel 13 furlongs in the G2, The Pamona. She lingered well back in the early going and was nine lengths off the lead at the third call. That would change quickly in her stretch run when she bolted past other horses and found the lead and picked up the win by one length with a 110 speed rating. If this late closer can run like that again this Saturday she could be a contender representing the East-West Connection residency.

Good luck to all owners and horses!

Skippy’s Watch List

4-Catapult Impact: Won a Listed Stakes last time at the distance. Can she move up in class with grace?

10-Atomic Impact: G3 win last time at the distance. Will she get a G1 on Saturday?

11-Your Great Maybe: Liked the switch to turf last time with a G2 win. Does she hit again?
