Competitive heat in Jamaica
Seven 3yo colts go to post in what is a trappy looking contest. It will be hard to find the winner but all seven deserve to take their chance.
The runners:
1. El Prado’s Appeal
Trained by:nastybu
Odds:5/1
Having run through his conditions, this son of El Prado was stepped up into stakes class 3 runs back and showed he was well up to the task with a storming 2nd place behind Stormfang with subsequent G1 scorer, Sly Cat, a place behind. He hasn’t been at his best in his last 2 runs so there are question marks against him. He needs to prove that his first stakes run wasn’t a fluke.
2. Alyrush
Trained by:therock
Odds:11/1
A switch to the dirt has really seen this horse flourish. Seems equally adept anywhere from 7 furlongs to 8.5 furlongs so the trip on Saturday should suit him well and he patently failed to stay in a 9 furlong G2 last time out. He’s been given plenty of time to get over that run, so should be in top form to give his best running. Very much an overlay at current odds.
3. Saisir Le Batteur
Trained by:theshark
Odds:2/1
Beautifully-bred son of Gone West who won 2 stakes events as a juvenile but has been given limited opportunities to add to that tally since. Ran a storming race against older horses in a stakes race last time and if he improves for the extra ½ furlong then he looks the one to beat in this.
4. Street Sweeper
Trained by:jonsnow
Odds:4/1
Looked a potential triple crown horse at the beginning of the year and connections campaigned him accordingly, however he doesn’t appear to stay much beyond a mile and could even be and out and out sprinter, in which case he may find this trip a touch too far in this company. The race should tell us a lot more about the colt.
5. Pizol
Trained by:vineland
Odds:7/2
Finished alongside rival Street Sweeper 2 weeks back so there shouldn’t be much between them again here. Put up some nice times over the trip in allowance company but has been found wanting in stakes class. Likely to be seen to better effect over a shorter distance.
6. Cyborg Sid
Trained by:1i3
Odds:6/1
Having started his career on the lawn with 4 wins in 8 runs, the son of Cape Town was switched to dirt and he has reeled off 2 allowance victories from 2 runs on the new surface. I wouldn’t like to hazard a guess at his best distance but he should go very well on Saturday and could go on to better things in due course.
7. Flash The Cash
Trained by:londoner
Odds:5/1
One that I know a fair bit about as he’s mine! Three stakes wins prompted me to try him in graded class but regrettably he hasn’t lived up to expectations. He’s dropped back to listed class but put over a trip where he should be effective judged on his run behind Anticosti as a juvenile. Fingers crossed this is what he needs.
My picks:
1. SAISIR LE BATTEUR
2. FLASH THE CASH
3. CYBORG SID
