Glue Factory Special Results show
The Glue Factory Special has come and gone for another year. There were great races, there
were some historical firsts involved as the hopes and dreams of the non-winners were given flight.
In the first race (#13 on the card) was the Males on Dirt race which had a full field of 20
horses, a first for the GLUE FACTORY SPECIAL. SOOZNSEATTLE(PR) was the favorite for this race at 4-1. Other favorites included SOLAR DIETY(AZ) at 5-1, cold (SAF) at 7-1 and
FASTICAT AT 9-1.
At the break SOOZNSEATTLE(PR) made fast tracks to the front of the pack. This was consistant with his running style to show the way but would it hold up in this race? SOLAR DIETY(AZ) and BLEU CAT(AUS) were right on his heels. The 50-1 shot PROUNDANDTOUGHHERO at 6 years old was holding his own early. Through the first call there was only 7 3/4 lengths between the horses in first and last place a quite competitive race to this point.
Coming to the halfway point the field began to stretch out much wider. SOOZNSEATTLE(PR) continued to lead the way while COLD(SAF) quietly moved up to the 2nd position. SOLAR DIETY(AZ) and BLEU CAT(AUS) were having their own little struggle in 3rd and 4th place at this point. There was still 10 horses within 7 lengths of the lead to this point and the leader looked like he was beginning to feel the presence of the other horses as he was not being able to outrun them.
As they turned for home SOOZNSEATTLE(PR)looked too tired to win this race. The pressure from COLD(SAF) and APOLLO SIX(JPN) who was 22-1 had made a strong bid to this point. Both were able to pass the leader and began their stretch duel towards the finish line. Out of nowhere it seemed NORTH STREET(KY) at 17-1 who at one point found himself in 17th place was flying past other horses like they were standing still.
In the end a total of 7 horses finished within 4 lengths of the each other. COLD(SAF) was the superior horse on this day winning the $150,000 prize for the victor. APOLLO SIX(JPN) finished 2nd while NORTHSTREET(KY) beat out SOOZNSEATTLE(PR) in a photo finish for 3rd.
The payouts were as follows:
Post Horse Win Place Show
19 COLD(SAF) $16.10 $10.50 $6.70
17 APOLLO SIX(JPN) $21.00 $13.50
1 NORTH STREET(KY) $11.70
Exacta: $294.00
Trifecta: $5,315.40
Of course part of the fun of these Glue Factory specials is seeing who the “worst of the worst” would be. In this race it turned out to be the 44-1 shot CLOSE WITHIN BORED, a 10 year old who hadn’t raced since march of 2003 and the long layoff showed as he was unable to stay with the pack past the first call.

Race #14 (Females on Dirt)
Before the race had even started a record had been broken. For the first time a horse would be going off at odds of 99-1 or higher. JULY PEACH(ARG) who hadn’t raced in two and a half years and even then had trouble finding a speed rating of above 50 couldn’t even get play from the longshot players. It was obvious everybody knew what they were doing as she never got into the half of the field and finished dead last 25 3/4 lengths behind the winner.
This 15 filly race ran pretty much for the chalk players (chalk meaning favorites). Although WELCOME TO THE SPA did make it quite interesting for the first half of the race. However the talent in this race showed in the end as A SONG OF SOLOMON(CA) at 4-1 edged out LMO(KY) by a nose with NEVERAFTER(KY) was only a lenth behind. Favorite YES BOSS(KY) at 3-1 had a wonderful effort though she finished in 4th place 3 3/4 lengths behind the leaders.
The payouts were as follows:
Post Horse Win Place Show
5 A SONG OF SOLOMON(CA) $9.80 $6.40 $4.00
4 LMO(KY) $7.90 $5.30
10 NEVERAFTER(KY) $5.20
Exacta: $61.3 0
Trifecta: $462.90

Race #15 (Females on Turf)
One race after having our first off the board horse we had another in the Females on Turf race. This time it was CROOKED COP(IRE). It was understandable why she was thought of so lightly. After all this was only her 2nd race of all time. Her first face was more than 2 years ago, was on a dirt track and even then only got a 41 speed rating. When she went to post her odds were 105-1.
The favorite for this 16 horse race was PLEASURE PALACE(FL) AT 3-1. BLUE SKY(SWE) and BACK DOOR WOMEN (KY) were 5-1 each. All other horses were 10-1 or higher indicating that the fans though a lot could happen in this race and it did.
11-1 shot URGENT GAL(JPN) broke out to the early lead in this one. ERMINGTON SMOKE(GER) at 20-1 and NAKED SUNDAY (MD) at 14-1 showed the way. The order of running didn’t change even at the halfway point of the race however to the shock of the fans the super longshot CROOKED
COP(IRE) though in 10th place at this point of the race was only 5 1/2 lengths behind the leaders. The fans were going wild cheering for the lightly raced filly to do well in this race.
Between the halfway point and the top of the stretch BACK DOOR WOMEN (KY) made subtle moves and took over the lead from URGENT GAL(JPN) who was tiring badly and would finish in 7th place. ERMINGTON SMOKE(GER) would follow suit finishing in 8th. With what was considered the best jockey in the field V Jef on her back BACK DOOR WOMAN(KY) began to pull away from the field and won by 3 1/4 lengths over DODGE THE WHEEL(NY) who had been close to the front the whole race but couldn’t completly close the gap.
There was a 3 way photo to determine the show position in this race which included the longshot CROOKED COP(IRE). While the betters of the longshot held their breath it was
announced to their disappointment that NAKED SUNDAY(MD) had taken 3rd while CROOKED COP(IRE) beat out LIL MISS SKIM(ca) for the 4th spot.
In last place in this race RICHTER TIMING(GER) won the honor of last place barely beating out FLAT IRON and HAWKSVILLE.
The payouts were as follows:
Post Horse Win Place Show
13 BACK DOOR WOMAN(KY) $12.90 $6.60 $4.60
4 DODGE THE WHEEL(NY) $13.60 $9.10
7 NAKED SUNDAY(MD) $9.00
Exacta: $121.70
Trifecta: $1,877.70

Race #16 (Males on Turf)
17 horse started this race and for the 3rd straight race we had an off the board selection available. GEM BUBBA who was part of the dan3 entry along with LONG CITY. Well the fans didn’t think he was that much of a gem considering he hadn’t raced in 5 years. His final odds was a record 451-1 odds. A record experts and predicting might NEVER be broken. In the end it was the two dan3 entries that wound up vying for last place in this race with GEM BUBBA finishing dead last with LONG CITY getting next to last each more than 20 lengths behind the winner.
In the end it was a 10-1 shot THIRTY FIVE THREE(JPN) who took the honors in this race getting his first victory. It was a comfortable 2 1/2 length victory who flew past a tiring SHARK ATTACK(AUS) who had led the way from the start of the race but just didn’t have enough in the end. MS. BEAU(LA) took home 3rd place but this turned out to be the most competitive of all the GLUE FACTORY SPECIAL races this day. A total of 8 horses (almost half the field) finished within 7 lengths of the winner.
The payouts were as follows:
Post Horse Win Place Show
8 THIRTY FIVE THREE(JPN) $22.90 $11.50 $9.50
15 SHARK ATTACKS(AUS) $25.40 $15.90
1 MS. BEAU(LA) $9.30
Exacta: $787.00
Trifecta: $15,136.20

So as I said earlier another GLUE FACTORY SPECIAL has come and gone. I really hope to be able to sponser this next year. However in these uncertain economic times I can’t guarentee it at this time. If I’m still gainfully employed I’ll do it. If not there is a part of me that hopes this will be sponsered by SimulatedSports.com. I think that its been proven that these races have value (and I don’t just mean in the purses for the winners either). So I wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! Also I hope to have another Glue Factory Special next year too.
