Veteran campaigner has the ability and class (is Graded race placed) to win with these. The problem is consistency. Two of his last four races have been disappointing at 6 and 6.5 furlongs. The extra distance shouldn’t hurt this closer.

The favorite here is consistent, classy, royally bred (Seattle Slew x Gone West) and has over three times the earnings of his closest competitor. And he even has strategic speed to stay up close or stalk back a bit. Only minor issue is the price, as three or four of the horses in this race have had single races that can beat this one on their best day. Overall though, this one should be the one to beat.

Has thrown a scary-fast 116 at 7 f 7 races back, but recently has been all over the board speed-wise. Not consistent enough to put money on for me, but if he brings his ‘A’ game, watch out.

Here’s one to watch out for if you like the hot horse theory. Since discovering turf just four races ago, this guy has lit up both allowance and ungraded stakes with four consecutive triple digits. This one will be right there with the favorite if the pace is right. He’s also a stalker and the type of ride given will be key here.

Here’s another that will flourish or flounder based on the pace. The only confirmed front-runner in this race, he has the ability to wire this field if he gets out easy enough. But he’s also plagued with the inconsistency bug, and I’m thinking that neither of the two favorites will let him go easily.

Broke his maiden two races ago, and bumped straight up to stakes LTO (and finished last). Probably not in the class of these guys this week.

Another possible class issue, but this one has shown high-end speed figs in the past. But recently has shown very little in a couple of allowance races. Will take a huge reversal to cash a check here.
