G1, Players Club National Oaks: Which of these fillies gets her first G1 win?
This week we are headed to New York as this Saturday they will be hosting the G1, Players Club National Oaks. This is going to a big race for the twelve entries. The race is restricted to 3 year old fillies only that will be going the distance of 10 furlongs across the fast dirt track. There are no prior G1 winners in this group and thus one of them will make the trip over to the winner’s circle collecting their prize and their first ever G1 win. Which of these twelve fillies will it be? The morning line odds and post positions have been released so let’s take a preview of the starters and see if we can figure out who will get to the wire first in the G1, Players Club National Oaks in New York.

Heading out first we have this Bay Filly (CURLIN x INTO MISCHIEF x MEDAGLIA D’ORO ) that two starts back would win in a Listed Stakes at this 10 furlong distance in the Priestess Of Helm Dirt Filly Route. She would then move up in class for her most recent start in Sweden going 12 furlongs on an off track to earn her GP bag as she made a nice run in the G3, Oaks de Swedish getting a second place finish. She has shown she can compete at the graded level and will be seeking her first graded win when she heads over to her gate representing The Mecca residency.

Next, we will see this Bay Filly (INTO MISCHIEF x WAR FRONT x SEATTLE SLEW ) that would fumble two starts back on a sloppy track in the G2, The Treacherously II Stakes here in New York. But she would rebound nicely in her most recent start in Maryland going 9 furlongs in the G2, Black Middle Flower Stk. She found a good spot in second out of the gate and by the third call would take control and lead the field to the wire to pick the win with a 101 speed rating. She heads back to New York this weekend but this time the track will be fast for her when she breaks from her gate representing the Orphan Racing residency.

Here we have a Bay Filly (INTO MISCHIEF x DANZIG x DEPUTY MINISTER ) that would make a nice trip in a Local Allowance start against the boys two starts back and pick up the win. In her most recent start in Arkansas, she would go 9.5 furlongs in a $42900 Allowance race. She was looking good out of the gate taking the early lead. She would then fall back in her stretch run to cross the wire in fourth with a 97 speed rating. She is making a big jump in class this weekend to make her first grade start when she heads out of the paddock to the cheers of an excited crowd.

Next, we have this Bay Filly (CORNICHE x AUTHENTIC x ORB ) that has made all of her five most recent starts in Owner Restricted Listed Stakes. Her most recent would be in Maryland going 9 furlongs in the URC-Back eyed Susan. She found a nice spot in second out of the gate and in her stretch run she timed it right to pick up the win by a quarter stride with a 98 speed rating. She will be jumping up in class this weekend and adding on an extra furlong when she makes the start representing the Universal Racing Club residency.

Here we have a Bay Filly (JUSTIFY x GHOSTZAPPER x DEEP IMPACT ) that two starts back would pick up an Allowance win on the turf in Minnesota. She would then head back to the dirt to race in the slop as the race was moved off the turf in Iowa going 8.5 furlongs. She would find no issues in being moved off the turf in this Listed Stakes, Kryszostoniak Turf Filly Route. She was in fifth at the third call and would find some extra effort heading down the stretch in the slop to pick up the win with a 95 speed rating. She will get a fast track this time out in New York as she moves up in class to represent the Orphan Racing residency.

This is a Chestnut Filly (GUN RUNNER x JUSTIFY x BERNARDINI ) that would win three of her four most recent Allowance starts and come in second in the one she missed. Her most recent start would come in Sweden going 9.5 furlongs in a $66000 Allowance race. She was just off the lead in third during the early going and would pop like a firecracker down the stretch to pick up the win by six lengths with a 101 speed rating. The owner feels it time to move her up in class as she takes a big jump to make her first graded start representing the Midas residency.

Next, we will see this Brown Filly (GUN RUNNER x ANY GIVEN SATURDAY x DEPUTY MINISTER ) that would pick up the win in March in the G2, Oaks Preview. She then went off the boards in in eighth in the Bluegrass Oaks. This leads up to her most recent start here in New York going 8 furlongs in the G1, Chestnut Stakes. It was raining buckets that day and she would take out in the slop for a disappointing trip as she crossed the wire in seventh with a 101 speed rating. She will get sunshine this weekend with a fast track and hunting for a G1 win to add to her collection when she heads over to her gate representing the DelPenn National residency.

Here we have a Chestnut Filly (SOLOMINI x DEPUTY MINISTER x STREET CRY ) that would earn her SW badge back in January in a Listed Stakes, Red Jade Dirt Filly Mile. She has made one graded start that would be disappointing back in February. In her most recent start in Arkansas, she would travel 7.5 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Finger Expand Dirt Filly Dash. At the third call she would lose her early lead dropping back to second. That is where she would finish with a 98 speed rating. She’s going to attempt her second graded start this weekend making a jump up in class when she heads out of the paddock to the cheers of an excited crowd.

Next, we have this Light Grey Filly (PALACE MALICE x TAPIT x TALE OF THE CAT ) that two starts back would get the win when she closed from way back in an Owner Restricted Listed Stakes, URC Oaks. She then moved up in class for her most recent start in Ontario going 9 furlongs in the G3, Denny Tario Oaks. She would find all kinds of trouble and failed to fire in her stretch run to cross the wire in twelfth with a 92 speed rating. She is going to have to find a lot more effort in her start this weekend to challenge this field representing the Universal Racing Club residency.

Next, we will see this Bay Filly (KINGSBARNS x QUALITY ROAD x SADLER’S WELLS ) that has been hitting the board well for the owner in recent starts. But she would run big in her most recent start in Brazil going 10 furlongs on an off track in a Listed Stakes, First Ryder Dirt Filly Route. She found a comfortable spot just off the lead in the early going. In her stretch run she would run down the leader to pick up the win by a quarter with a 102 speed rating. She will be jumping up in class this weekend to make her first graded start representing the Down Under Racing residency.

This is a Bay Filly (MUTH x DISTORTED HUMOR x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY ) that two starts back would get the win going 10 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Trade Winds Dirt Filly Route. Then in her most recent start she would head up in class in Maryland at the distance of 9 furlongs in the G2, Black Middle Flower Stk. She did not seem comfortable in this race and this front runner could find the lead out of the gate. She would go on to cross the wire in sixth with a 97 speed rating. She will make another graded attempt this weekend and we have seen her win before at 10 furlongs. She will head out at post time representing the Down Under Racing residency.

Breaking from the final gate in this race is this Light Grey Filly (TAPIT x SMART STRIKE x MONSUN ) that earned her GP badge last season in the G2, Camlaw Stakes. She then made four G1 starts in a row that ended up fruitless. She would then dropped down in class for her most recent start going 9 furlongs in Kentucky in an Owner Restricted Listed Stakes, Dirty Girls Oaks. This late closer was making a move down the stretch but she would come up short of hitting the boards as she crossed the wire in fourth with a 97 speed rating. She may need to find just a little more extra effort if she wants to hit the boards for the first time this season representing the Orphan Racing residency
