G3 The Crown Roys Preview

The Field:

#1 Barreilva (The Mecca) 12/1 : Comes in off a win and clearly trending in the right direction. Took a big step forward stretching out to 8 furlongs last time, cruising home with a strong figure after showing early speed and control throughout. It’s worth noting his last three starts have all come in claiming company, including a runner-up finish two back. Has now hit the board in 3 of 4 starts and looks to be improving with each run. Can he keep that upward trajectory going at this level?

#2 Galiford (The Mecca) 16/1 : Still searching for that breakthrough after showing early promise in his career. Broke his maiden impressively at two, but hasn’t quite built on it since. His two starts this season in NW2L company have resulted in a 3rd and a 4th, with modest improvement in his latest. Speed figures are trending upward, but still a step below the top contenders here. Will this be the race where he finally puts it all together?

#3 Adayyan (The Mecca) 19/1 : Lightly raced with just two starts, so still very much an unknown heading into this spot. Broke his maiden nicely at two, showing a solid turn of foot and finishing power. That made the follow-up in a NW2L a bit disappointing, fading to 5th and not quite building off that debut effort. Still early in his development, but this is a steep rise in class with limited experience. Is he ready for this kind of jump, or still a race or two away?

#4 Genneves (The Mecca) 17/1 : Comes in off back-to-back third-place finishes and continues to trend in the right direction. Broke through nicely at two and has held his form well since stepping into tougher allowance company. His latest was a solid 3rd in a NW3X, posting a career-best figure and showing he can compete at longer distances. The progression from low 70s to 90 suggests real development. Now faces a tougher group, but the form is building. Is he ready to take another step forward?

#5 The Beatles (Down Under Racing) 7/1 : Comes in absolutely rolling with back-to-back wins and steadily improving figures. Took down a NW4L by over 7 lengths two back, then followed it up with another sharp score at the NW3X level, showing versatility and control throughout. Has been progressing with each start since the juvenile season and clearly loves this turf distance range. Yet to face stakes company, so this is a big class test, but the form is hard to ignore. Is he ready to prove he belongs with the best?

#6 Step Tight (The Mecca) 19/1 : Has taken a long route to get here and is still trying to prove he belongs at this level. Needed to drop into claiming company to break through at two, though he did it impressively with a strong finishing effort. Returned this season with a 4th in allowance company, a step up but still not quite threatening. Speed figures are improving, but remain a notch below the top contenders. Will need another jump forward to factor, can he find it here?

#7 Unholy Peppa (Orphan Racing) 15/1 : Comes in off back-to-back wins, but did start from the lowest level. Broke through in a maiden claimer, then took a big step forward stretching out to 9.5 furlongs with a convincing score and a career-best figure. That last effort showed improvement and some versatility, but this is a much tougher test against better company. Big jump in class here, can he keep that upward momentum going?

#8 Attrait D’Or (Orphan Racing) 4/1 : Comes in off a career-best effort, taking down the Dynamis Turf Memorial with a strong late run. That marked a big step forward off a runner-up finish in the War City Turf Route, showing he belongs at the stakes level. Put together a solid juvenile campaign with back-to-back allowance wins at similar distances, so this trip suits him well. Speed figure jumped to a new top last out, suggesting he’s trending the right way at the perfect time. Is he putting it all together as a 3-year-old?

#9 Herr Des Todes (Orphan Racing) 5/1 : Comes in off a strong runner-up effort and has been right there in his recent starts. Broke through nicely two back at the NW3L level and followed it up with a narrow defeat, missing by just a head last time out. His last three speed figures have all landed in the mid-90s range, showing consistency at this distance. Has been competitive throughout and fits well with this group. Can he build off that form and get back to the winner’s circle?

#10 Juanquilo (Down Under Racing) 17/1 : Has always been dismissed at the windows and took a while to break through. Needed multiple tries before finally getting his maiden win earlier this year, and hasn’t built much consistency off it since. Followed that win with a step up into allowance company and finished a well-beaten 6th, suggesting this level might be a stretch. Has shown flashes, but nothing sustained against stronger groups. Will he prove the odds wrong, or is this just too much again?

#11 Donenon (The Mecca) 11/1 : Comes in off a strong win in the Pinhard Leon Turf Sprint and looks to be rounding into form at the right time.Showed good progression from two to three, including a runner-up finish stretching out to 9 furlongs earlier this season. Has held his own in graded company as a juvenile, even if the results didn’t fully land. The cutback to 7.5 furlongs seemed to suit him perfectly last out. Can he build off that breakthrough and take another step forward here?

#12 King Frankio (Northwest Racing Circuit) 9/2 : Comes in off a career-best effort and looks to be peaking at the right time. Took a big step forward last out with a dominant NW3L win, posting a triple-digit speed figure and showing control throughout. Has now won 3 of his last 4, including a sharp score at today’s distance last out. The only blip in that stretch came in stakes company, but he wasn’t disgraced. Clearly trending upward and bringing top-tier figures into this. Is he ready to make the jump and stamp himself at this level?

#13 Tanirah (The Mecca) 30/1 : Longest shot on the board, but does come in off a career-best effort. Took a step forward last out with a win in claiming company, posting a solid figure and showing improvement from his earlier races. Prior to that was competing at lower levels, so this is a sharp rise in class despite the recent success. Still lightly raced and trending the right way, but this is a much tougher group than he’s seen before. Can he shock the field again or is this step too far?

#14 Louisville Lenten (Florida Racing Club) 9/1 : Bit of a mixed bag coming into this, but does have a stakes win on the resume this season. Took down the Danzig’s War Turf Mile two back with a strong effort and a solid speed figure, showing he can compete at this level. That makes the 8th-place finish in the G3 Dracula Stakes last out a bit puzzling, especially after trending upward prior to that. Overall form has been inconsistent, but there are flashes of ability in there. Can he rebound to that winning effort two back?
