I got it right on the money in my preview when I chose RIVER OF FUN to win this race. He got out front and breezed home for the win. He almost breezed too early when jockey Baumann shut him down a bit too early and OLD TOWN nearly caught up at the end but he was able to hold on and win the The Far Lap GIII Stakes here in Victoria, Australia this weekend.
RIVER OF FUN who under jockey Baumann got a wire to wire win that enabled him to gain his 6th victory in only 12 tries. He has now won three in a row and four of seven. He has over $319k in earnings for trainer HolyGhost and looks like he is just hitting his stride.. He ran his third 100 SPF in his last four races and now has three total Stakes wins and has gathered his first Graded win. He improved his rank to number 28 in the three year old turf classic class.
As predicted, there was not a lot of early speed in the race with our winner taking the early lead followed by PIOLIN who faded badly at the end and finished next to last. OLD TOWN and NUITS MAGIQUES both stalked the leaders and made their move at the top of the stretch to finish second and third. MOCONA put on a furious charge at the end but started from too far back to hit the board and settled for fourth.
HolyGhost and the Sabalou Stables have to really be excited about this young colt and the big money turf races for three year olds coming down the pike. They have quite a special horse in the stable and he just keeps getting better. I for one will be watching and admiring this colt as he finishes up his three year old campaign.
Good luck to all runners!
