Ten Year Old Brings Top Dollar

Ten Year Old Brings Top Dollar

Auction 3889:  One hundred fewer horses entered the sales ring this week and seven horses sold for more than a million dollars.  Interestingly, the top seller was a 10 YO stallion, Reflected Glory II, and he went for a dollar less than three million. All seven sold within a two million dollar window.  The senior citizens did very well this week with nine of the 31 offered selling for more than a dollar.  The top seller among them was also the top seller of the sale and will be discussed later in this article.

My favorite for buy of the week was #139094 Le’ Go My Bago, a lovely 4 YO dark brown filly by Bago out of Moscow Eagle (Moscow Ballet).  She’s won eight of her 28 starts and six races within the past year.  She also comes with a nice starter tag of $3,500 and Bruin18 stole this filly for only $1,002. She is probably hoping for a forever home as she has changed hands about eight times in her life.  Here are this week’s auction stats.

The Top Five Millionaires:

Reflected Glory II # 26667 is a handsome, bright chestnut stallion by Storm Cat out of a Seattle Slew mare.  As buyer Champions7 told me, he is always willing to spend some of his money to pick up a horse with this kind of breeding and although Glory’s last win was in the fall of ’07, he has won 10 of his lifetime 48 starts and is a four time stake’s winner.  The 10 YO horse was consigned by Rokeby and brought $2,999,999.

Hip number 84849, AP Juicy is another well bred horse.  The 5 YO grey horse by AP Indy and out of a Silver Ghost mare has won only two of his 21 starts and could have been claimed for as little as  $2,500 last year.  Juicy comes with a much higher starter tag now but he looked good to Olympiafie and he was willing to spend $2,500,000.00 to take him home.  I would be surprised if Squirrel was unhappy to see him go.

Eddy Street #117759 was a consignee of trainer Decolex and sold for $2,210,003.  The 3YO good looking bay colt is still a maiden and hasn’t shown much to this point but he has a lot of time to improve.  He is by Sadler’s Wells out of a Kingmambo mare and Kevoman has a great eye for a horse and was thrilled to take him home.

If they don’t fit into Dixiedotco’s program, they are quickly sold and several of his have gone on to become nice horses.  No one is prouder of them when they do well then Dixie, even if they do belong to someone else.  Gipper paid $2,134,567 for #155784 Barker Dam, a light boned 3 YO bay filly by Gone West.  She is still a maiden but finished second last time out with a 20 point jump in her speed figure and that is always a good sign.  She is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Joshua Tree who only won four races herself, but…. she is the dam of five foals to race.  One is a stake’s winner, one is graded placed, and one is a graded stakes winner.

Consigned by Amazon2, Tornado Tom #112659 sold for $1,650,000 to trainer Deadman.  The 5 YO brown stallion is a four time winner by Saratoga Six out of a Tank’s Prospect mare.    He has won his last two and is lightly raced with only 23 starts in his three years on the track.  Deadman liked the way he looked and signed the ticket to take him home.

The Auction Seen:

Louisville weather was a toss up and one minute the sun was out and the next it was looking like it would pour buckets.  I arrived in the sunshine and walked into a crowded seating area with my friend Trotter and Mikeomaha.  We joined a great group in front of the fire consisting, among others, of Kingab, Lenny, and Fabman who was telling tales of his bowling tournament over the weekend and making us all laugh.  Kirby came by with a lady on each arm and Given was right on his heels, trying to wrangle an introduction….. to either of them.

Poolshoota called Pocket8 but got Pizzaman instead which was ok with Tsunami and Pamela.  Aviero and Pilot came by with Chicago09 who was looking a bit bewildered by Castle who was in the middle of everything with Snakebite.  Goldhorse and Thebay were waiting their turns down by the ring and Sapper was talking with Glitters who was selling a bunch.  He was probably trying to get the inside track on some of the consignments.   Plowguy took some time out from spring planting and joined Firerun at the backgate to get a closer look at some of the offerings.  All in all it was a fun afternoon and there were some bargains to be had.  Even though it was raining when we left for the races I think everyone had a good time.

Good Luck with you auction purchases.
