More Ramblings, No Comments, Some Maths and the Qld Stakes
Well with no Stakes race last week I got a week off and you got a week off from having to read my ramblings. I did check three times to make sure so I don’t think I missed it. I had no comments whatsoever on my write up the previous week so I will leave you hanging as to the outcome of that until I do get some comments either through the forum or by messaging to me. Even if I have to wait all year! I just want to see if anyone is reading it or not. Personally I don’t think they are and that’s fine – I can take a kick as good as anyone! 🙂
Enough rambling. Big race here with a small field. Exeter Orange Special at Queensland over a mile and one sixteenth. Firm turf is what the stewards rated it as which is probably a bit over optimistic in my view but what would I know. Firm turf it is. Purse is $75,000 which is a lot of cash – more than I ever win thats for sure! Let’s see who is running.
1 KNOWING LOOKS(KY)
Owner: foxon3
Record: 39-18-6-6
Earnings: $420,655
Jockey: C Wyatt
Odds: 5/2
Equal favourite, looks good, top jockey Wyatt on board, hasn’t got a chance in hell. Joking. Has every chance after a stellar run at Allowance level of late. Was running in Stakes company late last year with good results including a win over 7.5 furlongs. Has been running around that up to 8.5 furlongs and the distance here is perfect for her. Every chance with top speeds of 103 and 104 in her last two runs. Short odds but has to be up there at the end. Top 1 or 2 surely.
2 DRUJ OF THE GRAVE(GER)
Owner: orosto
Record: 23-8-3-3
Earnings: $116,609
Jockey: GLawson
Odds: 5/2
The other equal favourite here as the first one we have already covered. Above if you missed it. Go back there and re-read. Anyway is also in top form and also making the step up again to Stakes company after two runs on the trot at allowance level but exceptional speeds. 105 and last time out 109 so this girl can run hey. Distance is also perfect – she is one who likes to run at the front the entire race but has enough speed and distance to stay out front to the finish. Should be a good race from this one.
3 ROCK THE SLEW(JPN)
Owner: lazysranch
Record: 23-4-5-4
Earnings: $237,302
Jockey: O Alexander
Odds: 5/1
At 5/1 odds is the second long shot of the race! Well there are only 6 entries here. Not really in form this one although has been running in Stakes company unlike the previous two entries. Looking at her career though and especially of late she is looking like the distance may be a problem Is up there until hitting the straight and then she powers down and is unable to put on that burst required to cross the line first. If that happens again, she won’t be there.
4 MOONLIGHT GRAHAM(KY)
Owner: socalslew
Record: 21-5-4-4
Earnings: $123,499
Jockey: M Radke
Odds: 3/1
Running successfully at Stakes level including a second in the CR’s Moneymaker Bonanza over 8.5 and a third place finish in the Ginny Elf Challenge over 8 furlongs. I reckon she wants way more distance though as she has always been finishing strongly and eating up the front runners. Even last time out she was still wanting more distance. Is this enough room for her to wind up and take the race?
5 MOVING DAY(NZ)
Owner: bbudgies7
Record: 12-4-1-1
Earnings: $105,959
Jockey: K Damo
Odds: 11/1
The day is moving but this one hasn’t been moving extremely fast. Not lately anyway. Couple of goes Stakes races but has finished about midfield both times. Last win was in Allowance company over 6.5 furlongsin September last year. Is the longshot at only 11/1 odds on the tote but is going to struggle at this distance I believe. Yes I do. Might be worth a bet but will have to run the race of her life to finish top three.
6 QUEEN OF SNAKES(IRE)
Owner: khalasar2
Record: 25-7-6-3
Earnings: $244,815
Jockey: M Cameron
Odds: 7/2
I don’t like snakes much. However this girl can run well even if she is named after snakes. Having run most of her career on turf her last run was on dirt and she actually ran quite well really finishing second and strongly across the line. Speed wasn’t as good as on turf though and she is back on her familiar feel of turf today. Will need a good run but it is doable. Small field so may well figure.
So who is going to win? That’s the big question isn’t it? Well let’s see there are six entries. Let’s get rid of 2 of them to start with. Ok now we are left with four. Divide that by 2. Now we are left with 2. Add 4 and take away 5. That leaves us with 1. So runner #1 is going to win which happens to be 1 KNOWING LOOKS(KY) . So that folks is our winner – put all your money on her!
