Granite Rocks A Weak Sale

Granite Rocks A Weak Sale

Auction 3882:  Things were down this week at the sale barn as more people are having a hard time making ends meet.  Eight horses sold for more than a million dollars but of the six hundred plus horses entered this week, only two hundred sold for more than a dollar and the Computer Stable made out like a bandit and took home 193.  The senior citizens also had a rough go of it and only six of the 28 eight year-olds and older sold for more than a dollar.  The top seller of this bunch was the 8YO mare Cartay ‘Aus’ #23789, by Artax.  She was a stable transfer between Shag2 and Stcshag and it cost him $500,000.00 to get the job done.

The Millionaires:

There might have been eight horses that sold for big bucks but the top price was some two million less than last week’s top price.  They were all very close in the matter of price.  Since the top seller was a stable transfer here are the top five that weren’t.  Leading the way was #136491 Playmateofjanuary a good looking 2 YO daughter of Jeremy out of the Cape Cross mare Playboy Bunny.  The dark brown filly started one time and was closing ground to finish fourth in a nice first effort.  Babygirlz sold this filly to Seedly for $1,920,001.  This is the first foal from Playboy Bunny, a three time winner herself from 17 starts.

Royal Kitty #140575 sold for $1,755,000.00 to Noonstable.  The 4YO bay filly is by AP Indy and out of Magic Cat Again (Cat Thief).  She has won one of her eight starts and may be an off track specialist.  Her dam, Magic Cat Again was a winner in eight of her 33 career starts and was stakes placed.  She is the dam of three foals to race, two of them are winners.  Bigdog consigned this lightly raced well-bred filly.

Hihosilver may have liked the id number #128 on the Red Ransom filly Sienna.  Or maybe it was the fact that the 4YO blood bay filly is ultra consistent.  Out of a Gone West mare, from 14 starts, she has only one win to her credit… but she has gotten a check in her last six.  Lethargic sold this solid allowance filly for $1,587,966.

I can’t believe this horse sold for so little!  Consigned by Paceman2 (Theatrical), Danisha #7671, is out of the fabulous race mare Krishna and by Dansili.  The solid red colt has won six of his 22 races and four of those were stakes.  This is the second foal from Krishna and both are winners.  Krishna herself is by Theatrical and won 23 races including seven Grade Ones.  Phelodie found the buy of the sale in my opinion and paid $1,333,271.00 to take this 4YO colt home.

Alex’s Review #131443 rounds out the top five for this week.  Part of the ongoing Trotter downsizing, the 5YO bay mare is by Afleet Alex and out of the Nureyev mare, Neurotic Ruffian.  She has won two of her 19 starts, her last being three back, but she has been 12/19 in the money Angellic2 paid $1,333,271.00 for this lovely lady and is hoping to return this mare to a the winner’s circle before probably sending her on to the breeding shed.

The Auction Seen:

Kentucky, on Saturday, was warm and fresh after a day or so of showers and it was the kind of weather that makes you glad you are alive.  It was actually warmer in Kentucky than it was in Arizona so I arrived at the sale barn in good spirits.   Willyam and Gummo walked in with me and we all bellied up to the bar to get our refreshments.  With Pepsi in hand I visited for a short time with Masgalas and waved at 2wide who was having lunch with Pellett and Homegrown before heading off to my table.

Shamtheman, and Nextbonus were at the table to my right and Drowsy was nodding at something Opcon was saying off to my left.  I spied Tuckaway in the corner looking sort of woe-be-gone as Dora walked by with Gowans.  Drumms and Fireslam were studying the sales catalog and I had a short visit with Tabascocc.  The highlight of the day was when Mikeomaha stopped by and we had a great visit reminiscing about when he came through Arizona on his way to somewhere else.  Mike is a great guy and a good friend; believe it or not he and I joined the game at the same time.  All in all it was a pleasant time and I wish I had brought more money with me and I might have taken home Danisha.

Good Luck with all your auction purchases.
