Auction 3875:  There were 14 horses that sold for a lot of money this week.  Kingab and Trotter were having quite a dispersal sale and between the two of them accounted for all but one of the top five selling horses and I think the fifth is probably one of Larry’s stables also.  Aside from the top 14 top sellers there were 34 senior horses and eight sold for more than a dollar.  The top seller among the 8 and up crowd was a nice looking 8 YO bay stallion called Clever Miner # 64024.  He hasn’t won in over six months but a change of scenery might help.  Kittycats paid $123,457.00 for the stake’s winning son of Pine Bluff who has 11 notches on his stall door from 49 starts.

In looking over the auction stats for this week, the Computer stable took home a few less and the average was up due to all the million plus horses.  Three more horses were entered this week, including 39 by Trotter and all of his sub barns.  All the 2 YO’s that were entered sold and there looked to be some nice ones among them including a winning son of Septieme Ciel, Light Dawn purchased by Cwhisper.

The Millionaires:

The top selling horse this week was #146480 Renius a well-bred son of Storm Cat.  The handsome chestnut 4YO colt is out of a Seattle Slew mare and has won two of his 11 starts.  Princeab sold this fine individual to Chloedawg2 for $4,501,021.  The colt comes with some nice conditions especially non-winners of the year and I am sure the new owner will take advantage of them.

Reserve honors went to # 3126 Westburg, a maiden 3YO dark bay colt by Tufflesburg.  Trotter sold this colt to Alagou (Jacklad) for a hefty $3,895,738.00 and I think Jacklad may be pleasantly surprised by this colt.  While he has never won a race, he is 3/5 in the money and he has never tried the turf.  Westy is the only foal of the three time winning mare Nine Volt Heart by Gone West and he has improving speed figures and has closed in every race which will hopefully mean that with a little more distance he will improve by leaps and bounds.

Probable Coz # 27686 sold for $3,000,001.00 to Tejanorun and is a two time winning filly by Cozzene.  The big gray filly has started ten times and won her last out at the allowance level but better than that, she has not been worse than third in her last six outs.  She is from the Gone West he/mare Rainslicker and Trotter consigned this lightly raced, 4 YO.

Auror signed the ticket to take home #165761 Lightning Wave for $2,215,004.  Consigned by Bobcat, the 3YO light chestnut colt is by Storm Cat and out of an Alydar mare.  He went wire to wire in both of his winning efforts but stopped badly in his other five starts and might need lasix.  However, if anyone can improve this colt it is Fernando who is one of the top trainers in the sim world by anybody’s standards.

The last of the top five horses was Top Forty #150950.  Top Forty is a lovely roan filly by Unbridled Song out of the Forty Niner mare Nine Rae. Top Forty has not won in some time but seems to close well and may want more distance.  She has only won one of her eight races but she is out of a nine time stakes winning mare and those include two graded wins.  Nine Rae has had six foals to race and five of them are winners including one stakes winner and one that is stakes placed.  Dshock sold this 4 YO filly to Seedly2.

The Auction Seen:  I did not see anyone at the auction this week and it wasn’t the snow or the cold weather that kept me home in sunny Arizona.  Most of you know that I have a small (very) farm here in northern Arizona and I raise a few horses.  It is the time of year that horses needed to be moved around.  I had three to go this weekend.  Two were in foal mares that needed to go to the place where they will be foaled out.  I do not do things like this as I do not have a barn or foaling stall, just shelters for the horses.  I usually send the mares to the stallion’s farm and have them foaled out there but I am not breeding them back this year so although they would probably be fine on their own, I have a very good friend who is a veterinarian and she offered to take them to her place.  I thought that was a really good idea.

She wanted me to bring them on Saturday and as she was busy all morning we planned on early afternoon.  I always try to take them when they are 15 to 30 days out from foaling as that gives them time to settle into their new home.  So I sat and waited, after giving one some banamine so she could travel (she has a badly deformed foot from an old suspensory injury at the racetrack) and waited and waited.  She finally called and told me she wouldn’t be home until about three, so I kept waiting and finally she called and said she was home so I could bring the horses.  By now, it was almost five in the evening and so Matt and I loaded up the first one to run her over to the vet’s place about 15 miles away.  I have to take them one at a time as they are too fat to both fit in my trailer at the same time.

The vet lives on a ranch!  Most of the road was paved but the last 3/4 of a mile was dirt and we bumped and jolted our way in, crossed the stream, went up the mountain and then back down to a wonderful oasis of springs, trees and grass.  Also, a lot of snakes, coyotes, bobcats as well as numerous other wild critters.  However, the place is pretty darn nice, I would love to live there, and I think the girls will be fine.  Best of all I will have the peace of mind of having a vet in attendance with a baby cam on the foaling stall.

We unloaded the first mare and then bumped and jolted our way back to the highway, headed home to get the second one.  The second trip didn’t take nearly as long and we soon had her in with her friend as they will share a large paddock until they get ready to foal.  Hopefully all will go well and I will have two new healthy baby horses towards the end of March.  The point of all this is that I wasted all day waiting to take the horses and by the time I got home, it was after dark and I was too tired to write this.

The second horse goes today (Sunday) and he is just going to the neighbor down the road where I already have a 2 YO filly learning her lessons.  Newtons Theory has been laid up since October with a mild tendon injury and is going to the training farm to start getting legged up for racing at Yavapai this summer.  Broke as I am, the farm is less expensive than sending him to Phoenix and it will probably help him make the transition from farm paddock to racetrack stall less stressful.  He is that kind of a horse and worries himself silly.  I will sedate him to make the trip easier even though it is less than two miles away.  When he leaves I will only have seven horses left here and it will be like a vacation for me.  So I better get on my way and get that horse over there.

Good luck with all your auction purchases.
