LEX LUTHOR Wins THE PROMETHEUS on His Way to the Hall!

The PROMETHEUS
Grade I
A mile and one half on the Firm Turf Course
$500,000
All horses, 6 years old and up
Stakes record – 2009 – LEX LUTHOR, 2:30, SPF 106.203

In the premier edition of THE PROMETHEUS Grade I Stakes race for older horses we fittingly saw one of the almost mythical members of the Sim win. Galileo’s LEX LUTHOR took the lead and never looked back as he forced his will on the rest of the field. STRONG BELWAS stayed behind throughout and tried to close at the end but there was no stopping this future Hall of Famer in this race in Argentina this weekend.

With the tracks best jockey in Siefort aboard, LEX LUTHOR gained his 22nd victory in only 41 tries. He has now won two in a row with identical 106 SPFs and continues to be a force to reckoned with even at the advanced age of six. He won his eighth Grade I race which in itself is an amazing stat. He now has well over $8 million in earnings for trainer and owner Galileo and looks like he will be winning for quite a while yet. He improved his turf classic class ranking from number 47 to number 13. If he can sustain that, he will be able to try and defend his crown in this year’s Breeders Bowl.

There was plenty of early speed in the race with our winner taking the early lead followed closely by STRONG BELWAS The rest of the field was mostly an afterthought although A.P. SOJOURNEY put on a furious charge but still only got to within four lengths at the end to gather third place.

It was an honor and a privilege to watch this great horse in this race. I’m sure that LEX LUTHOR will still gather a few more wins on his way to the Hall, but I will remember this one well because of the mythical tie ins. He certainly proved his superior powers among this group.

Good luck to all runners!
