Horse Owners Take A Bath As Sales Plummet
Horse Owners Take A
Auction 3861: This week the auction saw almost 100 more horses entered and yet only one of those horses was a two year-old. With 2 YO racing starting this coming week, more people are holding onto their unraced 2 YO’s and after next week, I am sure most of the 2 YO’s that will be entered in the auction will have at least one start under their belt. Other points of interest – many, many random bred and named horses were sent through the ring, and the killer buyer was extremely busy buying many of the unwanted and unsound.
Only seven of the 119 older horses offered, sold for more than a dollar, but the top seller of the group, did go for the nice sum of $785,001. Mallard led the 8YO chestnut stallion, Ray Finkle #60024, away as the buyer of record. By Point Given, Ray has six wins from51 starts and ran a 111speed figure two back in a winning effort.
There were a few nice buys this week for less than $3,000. My favorite was hip number 26875, a 5YO brown stallion named Holzmeister. Holzmeister has never run in a maiden race, making his first lifetime start at 16 furlongs and finishing second. It was his only start for a tag. Since then he has only won three of his 16 starts but has been in the money in 13 of those races. Deliu saw some potential and took him home for only $2,631. Here are the rest of your auction stats.

The Millionaires:
There were only five horses that went for more than a million dollars and two of those sold within a residency, if not to the same group of stables. The top seller this week was #160807 Keppler Of Gold. Gemfarms, part of the Emit collection, sold the 3 YO copper chestnut filly by Seeking The Gold. She is the winner of one and has been in the money in six of her ten starts. She is stakes placed but was a well beaten third of only four starters in that race. That said she could mature into something nice as she is out of the good
The reserve status went to #174382 Big Cat Tales a 3 YO dark bay colt by Bernardini. Champions4 sold this handsome colt to Seedly2 for $2,000,001. He was an opening winner last time out in only his third lifetime start and is out of the Graded stakes winner Wild Cat Tales by Tale of The Cat. WCT not only won two Grade I races but has a total of eight stakes wins from her 43 starts. She is the dam of two foals to race – both winners.
Great Debater, #174549, sold for $1,900,001.00 to Targetfarm and was consigned by a member of the same residency, Wait2breed. The 4 YO bay colt is by Ukok Warrior and out of a Pleasant Tap mare. He has been close to breaking his maiden in two of his five starts finishing second both times. Once he lost a tight photo by only a nose and seems to consistently run in the mid to high 80s so maybe this colt will develop as the years goes on.
Aceedecee, #115934, was also sold within the same WorldWideRacing residency as Great Debater. Wonder91 is a division of the same stable group as Wait2breed andsold this 5 YO brown stallion by Milwaukee Brew to Shoreup22 for $1,130,000. Out of a Caerleon mare, Ace has three wins from 32 starts and ran fourth last time out for a $15,000 claiming tag. He has not won in the past six months but seems to be rounding back into form.
The last horse on our million dollar list was Point This Way. Jdtrot38 sold this 6 YO grey son of Skip Away for $1,000,001. He has won 10 of his 54 starts and has been on the board in all of his last eight starts, winning three of them. He finished second two back in The Pompous Craft earning a 101 speed figure over 12 furlongs. He is out of the three time winner Street Smart by Point Given. This is her only foal. Larot, who is a very smart trainer, signed the ticket on this one.
The Auction Seen:
I made it from the airport in good time and while it wasn’t exactly sunny, it was definitely warmer than it has been the last few weeks, if you can call a high of near 40 degrees warm. I saw a lot of trees down on my car ride to the sale barn. My driver was telling me that they had had a big wind storm this past week and there was a lot of damage. Hope all the farms are all right. It’s been cold, snowy, icy and now windy – and it is foaling season.
The sale barn was lit up and I walked in with Lecheapo who was selling a bunch of horses and my friend Graywolf who, for those that don’t know, is a handicapper of great renown. He is usually nice enough to give me some tips even though I rarely bet. The bar area was pretty crowded. I saw Kochiyoko and Unshaded standing with Limey. I had a nice visit with them and then after getting my Pepsi, I headed for my reserved table in front of the fireplace. The fire is the only source of heat in the building so it is always crowded. The table to my right was standing room only. I don’t know why they have these tiny tables and only two chairs. Almost everyone has to go get more chairs from the bar area and Billme always has his hand out. Jayco was talking about how to sell travel trailers with Belles and Libledlady. All three looked more like they were waiting for Kirby55 than the auction to begin. Mrluck came by with Fredsims and asked Sartori to give an opinion on one of the sale horses. I wasn’t asked but couldn’t resist pointing out the good grooming job done by Good. Evilpanda wandered by looking lost so I told him where the Cvbear clan hangs out by the back entrance.
Stephane and Orlandoo stopped to visit with Aak, a division of the Snowchief stables. She was there with Squirrel who was selling off a lot of older horses this week. One of Squirrel’s even had a reserve of $2,500,000. Sure, it was by
