Surprise ending in Six Up Monster Special
Not only was the favorite’s lock on wins broken, but it was broken by a longshot, as Fortunate Find(KY) cruised to a length and a quarter victory in this week’s Six Up Monster Special. The five year old horse out of Forestry recorded his first stakes win, narrowly missing the top 25 speeds of the week with an impressive 111.69 speed figure. He has now won six of his twenty three career starts, and bumped his earnings to the $217350 mark as he sets his sight on that quarter million milestone. The stakes win also puts in within striking distance of the divisional leader board, moving him up to a 291 rank among older turf runners at classic distance. The handicappers that picked this one (once again, yours truly not counted among them) are buying the drinks tonight, as they made a decent score on this one. The winner paid $23.40 $9.90 $6.80 across the board. He also set the stage for some nice exotics payouts, with the exacta paying $131.90 and a handsome $866.60 payout in the trifecta.
Fortunate Find(KY) couldn’t have asked for a better setup in this one, with a speed duel early and another past the half. Symondite(KY) edged out in front early, but didn’t get the clean lead he was hoping for, with Royal Canon(AUS) shadowing him closely, and Tap The King(KY) running just off their tail. Symondite managed to hold a lead, but couldn’t open up any ground, with Royal Canon(AUS) still within a quarter length at the first call, and Tap The King(KY) only another three quarters back from that. At the half, he’d managed to extend his lead to a scant half, but then he had the closers to contend with as they crossed into the second half. Symondite(KY) managed to hold on for another furlong, before Torino(KY) and Wells Ghost Ted(WV), who had been running neck and neck at the head of the mid pack, swept by him. As they reach the third call, Wells Host Ted(WV) had a head out front of Torino(KY), and Sydomite(KY) was holding on with all he had, only a quarter length back, but tiring quickly. Fortunate Find(KY) was making a furious drive up the rail from well off the pace, but still nearly four lengths out at third call, with the pitched battle in front of him, no one even noticed him. Everyone would soon, though, as he turned up the speed down the stretch to surge by the battling leaders, tacking on another length and a quarter before reaching the wire. In a photo finish for second, after deliberation, Torino(KY) was awarded second place, with Wells Ghost Ted(WV) taking third, both a length and a quarter out at the wire.
