Thirteen Former Owners At Least A Million Dollars Richer
Thirteen Former Owners At Least A Million Dollars Richer
Auction 3854 – Not as many owners sent their horses to the sale this week and therefore most of the auction stats were down. That is not always a bad thing as the killer man had less to take home. Thirteen horses sold for a million dollars or more and this week proves that it pays to advertise as both of the advertised horses made the top five list, as did one who limped into the ring. The seniors did not fare well this week as of the 40 offered only four brought more than a dollar. The highest of these was #41051 Diamond Gambler a 9 YO stallion by Light Of Morn out of a Nashwan mare. Pender paid 10,000 for this eight time winner. Several stables were active in both buying and selling – including Winterhart, Pigeon, Cigarfan, and Avenger. Some of the better buys this week included – #107303 Little Town Flirt, a 4YO bay filly by Point Given that is 10/19 in the money and probably wants nine furlongs. Jimdandy took this one home for $26,778. Dlkhstables might have stolen a lightly raced 3YO colt by Noble Causeway named Haze for a dollar and Mikehusker paid $20,001.00 for a 3 YO colt by Harlan’s Holiday called Dixie Holiday, that is 0/4 but finished a good second in his only start on the turf and may have some talent in that direction. Here are this week’s auction stats:

The Millionaires:
Thirteen horses sold for the major bucks and other than the top five that will get more of a mention – other people helping out the economy by spending millions, or at least a million were Staceylg, Elshadi, Targetplay, Rharfo, 7heaven, Jvh, Basalt and Wizbyzews. The top five auction purchases this week, that were as far as I can tell, not stable transfers were the following.
Pigeon led in the limping big bay 5 YO stallion, #115520 Ermington Wildcat. A very handsome animal, he was sporting a bright red bandage that stretched around and almost covered up his big fat tendon. By Grand Slam and out of the two time winner JM Laurel by AP Indy, ‘Cat’ has won 10 of his 30 starts. His last win came in
Buck’s Ghost #50933 cost Quirt $2,200,000.00 for the honor of having this 4 YO pretty brown filly run in the stable’s colors. By Ghostzapper out of a Sunday Silence mare, Buck is lightly raced with only 11 starts under her belt. She has won two of them so still has some conditions left and has actually only been out of the money three times. She has never been worse than third on the turf, seems to like a route and her best might be yet to come. Lucha consigned this nice filly.
Vachristie sold Lonrho an untested 2 YO filly by Political Force out of a Danzig Connection mare. The lovely grey filly with a big white star is called Danzig Force # 179214 and has a hopefully, win early pedigree. She sold for $2,000,001.
One of the owners that did some advertising was Sipe on his # 107244 No More Kings. Beisbol paid $1,770,000 for 6 YO blood bay stallion that is beautifully bred but hasn’t won in over a year and hasn’t run since August. Sipe has a nice place to turn one out for a rest and maybe he turns horses out to let them recover. Maybe, by selling this one he was making room for the hurt Ermington Wildcat. King is by Rahy and out of Pennywise (Nureyev) and has only won one of his 18 starts but has plenty of seconds and thirds. His dam, Pennywise is an exquisitely bred mare that for some reason only started three times and never hit the board. She is the dam of five foals to race, all winners and one is a stakes winner.
The Auction Seen:
After the past few weeks the 44 degrees that greeted me as I stepped out of the airport felt positively balmy. It’s about darn time. I caught a ride to the sales barn with fellow simmer Onalark and we complained about the weather the whole way. At least the sun was shining which is more than I could say about
The cab dropped us off and we walked in with Karie who I had met at a Breeder’s Cup party years ago. The auction barn was warm, I could see the fire going over by my table, and the three of us parted company -they to get a seat by the ring – me to get a Pepsi and hopefully a visit with Mikehusker who I saw was also getting a Pepsi. An avid golfer and a sports fanatic he was visiting with Bucksfan, Mrhoops, Nyyankee and Cubfan8, so not wanting to disturb him, I just waved as I went by.
I noticed Catcher and Taffy sitting at the table to my left and Crook and Angel, an odd couple to be sitting together if you ask me, were sitting to my right. I settled in and spent a great afternoon in front of the fire, visiting with people and watching the horses’ sell. Scorpion gave Foxon quite a scare over in the corner and Beng and Pogs were busy discussing the pros and cons of some of the horses being offered for sale. I noticed Slacker was down by Artsplace watching Hrtv. Since they hardly moved other than to raise their hands – it must have been a pretty good show. The sale was soon over and the crowd soon made their way to tracks far and near to watch the afternoon races. So ends my auction story. Good Luck with all your auction purchases.
