We have a wonderful mix of mares here from age four to seven with some rather amazing resumes. Several have won more than half of their races and some seem to be getting better the older they get. There really aren’t any horses that look to be head and shoulders better than the rest so we should have a fine race that isn’t decided until the final paces. The weather is forecast to be sunny and warm for this time of year so could really take a run at that Stakes record of 106 SPF and possibly shatter it. All in all it should be fun and exciting so let’s take a look:

( ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (IRE) x RUNAWAY GROOM x HABITAT out of RUNAWAY WIFE) This six year old cream colored beauty has apparently found the fountain of youth somewhere as she has won two of the last three and had her best SPF ever with a sizzling 110+ in her last outing winning the SWELL PROSPECTOR Stakes. Trainer Heubeck and the Ace Stables surely thought that this girl was going to slow down this year but now she is just one win away from that 10 win level and looks like she may hit it soon. Graf is in the leather and has been red hot this year. If she can bounce back from that big outing in her last race she could be in the mix.

( ALTIERI x CARNEGIE(IRE) x SORT) Here is a four year old mare that has been improving but doesn’t look like she is quite ready for this class yet. She hasn’t reached more than 93 in SPF and it is probably going to take at least 15 points higher than that to compete here. Add to that the fact that jockey Neihbors is still looking for his first win of the season and it doesn’t bode well for this team. Trainer and owner Hawkz3 knows that she will gain valuable experience but I can’t see her getting in the mix.

(SONGANDAPRAYER x SADLER’S WELLS x MR. PROSPECTOR out of INIGO MONTOYA) Here is a four year old mare that is seemingly on the move. This two times Stakes winner has meandered through the Allowance and Starter races after one big claim race and won more than half of her 27 races. And she has really looked good since the end of last summer. Trainer and owner Foxon has brought her along slowly with nice results including wins in 10 of her last 13 and three seconds. She just missed in a G3 last time out and looks ready to compete here. B.Thedog is holding the reins and has been ice cold but he should be able to hold on and let her move out in front early and try to hold on.

( AVENUE OF FLAGS x MR. PROSPECTOR x NORTHERN DANCER) Since turning to the grass a little over a year ago, this four year old chestnut mare has won 10 of her last 14 including six Stakes races. It looks like trainer Volare and the Bucksplash Stables are ready to turn her loose on the Graded circuit. Her last five races have been at 103+ SPFs and she is really looking fit and fast. She has Ventura in the irons and he is one of the very best out here. She likes the front and should be able to get there from this post.

( SOUTHERN HALO x KINGMAMBO x KRIS S) Another horse in this race with an incredible record with 10 wins in 13 total races including seven Stakes wins and a Grade III. Trainer Mindblower and the Snyder Stables have this pretty light grey mare tight and ready to run and she has been looking great. Her fastest SPF is a 105 last time out and she looks like she is still improving. Mercy is holding the reins and he has been hot all season so this could be a team to be reckoned with. She likes to run on or just off of the lead and there is plenty of speed in this race to push her along. Could be a nice payout at these odds.

( RAHY x STORM CAT x MR. PROSPECTOR out of KEPLER STORM) This nicely bred four year old threw a sizzling 108 ½ SPF last time out that won her second allowance race in a row. She has twelve wins but hasn’t won a Stakes outing since almost a year ago for trainer Bobo. It looks like she may be rounding back into form and if she can put up another big number here she will be in the mix at the end. She has Parka in the irons and he has only hit the board one time this year in twelve mounts. That could hinder the big mare here.

INDY out of SUPER MARIO) This nicely bred roan mare was kind of muddling around until trainer 20Two gave her a layoff at the end of last year and she opened this four year old campaign with renewed vigor throwing a sizzling 108 SPF last time out to just finish second to ROCK OF PASSION who is also in this race. She will need that kind of outing again to compete here, especially with Lennon acting more as an anchor than a jockey so far this year. It will take a big effort from this four year old.

( KINGMAMBO x DANEHILL x SECRETARIAT) Another hot horse, this four year old chestnut beauty has won five of her last seven including four Stakes races. Her one clunker in that stretch was a GI two back where she finished 11th with an uninspired performance. Trainer Weller3 would like to think that race was an aberration and that the 106 SPF she had three back is more the norm. Jockey Nine is up and is struggling to find that first win this year. This could be a tough place to find it.

( FORESTRY x SEPTIEME CIEL x BLUSHING GROOM(FR) out of DAN THE SHIN) A solid stretch of seven straight races with triple digit SPFs has trainer AZBear ready to move this five year old brown mare to the Graded circuit. She is ranked near the top fifty and seems to be improving as a ripe old age. AZBear and the CVBear Racing Empire would love to see this gal hit a really big one here. She likes to hang near the back and that style may fit well here with the frontrunners dealing the early pace. They have Issa holding the reins and he has been red hot so far this year with four wins in only 14 mounts. Has a definite chance to hit the board in this race.

( ZABEEL(NZ) x KING’S BEST(IRE) x DIESIS(GB)) We have another four year old here that has won more than half of her races with nine of sixteen. Eight of those have been Stakes wins and one was a G1. She has six straight 100 plus SPFs and trainer Thematrix seems to have her really feeling her oats. They have the best jockey at the track in the leather in Wu and he is wonderful with these turf races. He has really been solid so far this year. This is the number two ranked filly at this class and distance and she should be in the mix at the end. She has won from the back, middle and front so that shouldn’t be an issue.

PROSPECTOR out of VIXEN PROSPECTOR) Trainer Focusforce was probably hoping for a bit of rain this weekend as his four year old mare had won five of her nine wins on off tracks. It looks like the weatherman won’t be helping out though as the forecast is dry and fast. They have Ledwith to guide this mare but she is going to have to increase her firm turf speed a bit to compete here. She likes to stalk but may have a hard time keeping up with the early speed in this one. Needs a big effort.

( STORM CAT x KINGMAMBO x STORM BIRD out of TARBY’S TERROR) A seven year old that has been a picture of consistency speed-wise as she has had eleven straight SPF over 100. She only has three wins in that streak though and they were all allowances. She can still compete but it is going to take a trip to her yesteryear to compete with this crew for the win. Lugosi is solid as the jockey and Zeco5 always does a nice job but it might be a fight for the board from this girl.

( ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) x A.P. INDY x RAISE A NATIVE) This lightly raced five year old has really been coming into her own since last fall for trainer and owner Princeab. She has a nice stretch of plus 100 SPFs topped by a super fast 112 last time out on a yielding track. She has two seconds and two win in her last four Stakes races and has done it in different ways. She has Wood in the irons which seems like a play on words but he has looked good so far this season. It will be interesting to see what happens from this last 112 SPF. She could bounce or continue in her improvement. She has run well on fast tracks but her best speed was on an off track. This could be a telling race for the devilish mare.

( MINESHAFT x SAINT BALLADO x UNBRIDLED) Although she’s been rather competitive, this big chestnut seven year old hasn’t won a race since the beginning of last January. She’s shown some spunk and even finished third in a G3 recently but hasn’t had any speeds that would compete with this crowd. Trainer Verona has to be thinking about moving her to the breeding she where her nice speeds and fine record can be moved on to a younger model. Gall is the jockey here and has but one win to show for the season. It appears that the morning line may have been kind to this team as I will be surprised if they finish in the top half.

There are eight or nine horses here with a realistic chance to win the race and only a couple that you can really count out. It should be a close and interesting run. I actually had to put six horses in my Paz Picks because I’m not really sure who will hit the board here but I will take a crack at it. I like BAG OF KNUCKLES to get in the mix for CVBear and finish fourth. She has really been running well and could be anywhere in the top half of the field. Foxon has VACANT GLANCE looking ready to take on the Graded game and I think she has enough to finish in the top three. FAIR GO is training well and looks like she could be hard to keep off of the board. That leaves the win for Ace Stable’s ROCK OF PASSION who will use her experience to whip up on some of these young four year olds and take the win!
