G1, Chatterbox Stakes

This week we are headed to West Virginia where on the card this Saturday they have the running of the G1, Chatterbox Stakes. This race will be at the distance of 13 furlongs across the dirt track which will be listed as “good” at post time. It will be a little wet out there and we will have to see which of these nine starts can manage the off-track conditions. The morning lines odds and post positions have been released so let us now take a preview of the three year olds making the start in the G1, Chatterbox Stakes.

Heading out first we have this Bay Gelding (BOCEPHUS x WAR FRONT x AWESOME AGAIN ) that had three Local Allowance wins in a row coming into his most recent start. He would be seen in Idaho going 16 furlongs in a $16200 Allowance race. He would make this start on the turf and although not running his best speed rating he would cross the wire in second. It is back to the dirt this weekend for him as he makes his first graded appearance representing the East-West Connection residency.

This is a 3 year old Bay Colt (INTO MISCHIEF x TAPIT x CURLIN ) that is no stranger in facing graded company. Back in April of this season he would run his career high speed rating in the slop as he captured the G1, California Derby Lock Prep which earned him a free ride to the Bluegrass Derby. In his most recent start in New York, he would go 9 furlongs in the G2, Shiny Gem Stakes where he did not have a good performance as he crossed the wire in ninth. Perhaps the off-track conditions will work in this horses favor this weekend when he heads out of the paddock representing the Midas residency.

Next, we will see this Chestnut Colt (CURLIN x BERNARDINI x STORM CAT ) that has been doing very well in his three most recent starts. Two back he would pick up an Allowance win and then follow that up with a Listed Stake win in the Buda With The Slew Dirt Route. He then would make his way out in New York for his most recent start going 12 furlongs in the G1 New Yorker. He would throw it down on this field of contenders as he ran away getting the win by almost twelve lengths. This new G1 winner would love to get back-to-back G1 wins when he makes the start representing the GR Simsters residency.

Here we have a Light Grey Gelding (FROSTED x FRANKEL (GB) x WOODMAN ) that was claimed by the new owner back in April of this season. He would then give this horse three starts at longer distances all of which would result in a win. Two starts back he won a residency restricted Listed Stakes, Orphans Green Gold Stakes. He would then come out in Massachusetts going 14 furlongs in a $24300 Allowance start that he would win easily over the field. The owner feels it is time to give his horse a big opportunity to prove himself this weekend when he is sent over to his gate representing the Orphan Racing residency.

5ARANDORKY3MoakridgebelmontJ Caves6250%$124,0008.0017/1

Making his way out next is this Brown Colt (STREET SENSE x EMPIRE MAKER x DYNAFORMER ) that two starts back would place second in the Spring Endurance Stakes. He would then make his most recent start in New York going 12 furlongs in the G1, The New Yorker. He put up some effort in this race and briefly was on lead at the third call. He would go on to cross the wire in forth with a 96 speed rating. He is back to try and challenge this weekend in another graded start when he heads out to face an off track for the first time to the cheers of an excited crowd.

6VITAL IMPORTANCEKY3McwkD Raymond7286%$106,7306.5011/1

Next, we have this Light Grey Colt (ESSENTIAL QUALITY x GOOD MAGIC x GHOSTZAPPER ) that has only missed the boards one time in his seven career starts and that came two starts back in an Allowance race going 7 furlongs. But in his most recent start in California, he would rebound on a track listed as “good” as he would go gate to wire at the distance of 13 furlongs in a $52600 NW2L Allowance race picking up the win by over six lengths. This horse has never raced outside of California and never made a stakes start in any of his prior races. Perhaps this new change in scenery will spark his interest when he heads out in the post parade to the cheers of an excited crowd.

7SAY GUNITEKY3MvettstarsO Osbourne16456%$300,8973.756/1

This is a Bay Colt (GUNITE x BLAME x GHOSTZAPPER ) that has made several past starts at the graded level but hitting the boards in those starts has eluded him. He has also made several residency restricted Listed Stakes start in his career including his most recent start in New Jersey where he would go 9 furlongs in the URC-Haskell. He would close nice down the stretch from almost eight lengths back at the third call to pick up the win with a 106 speed rating. He is headed back out this weekend to take another shot at a graded race and see if his luck changes this weekend representing the Universal Racing Club residency.

8ENCOSTA DAWNIRE3FmakestakesW Kewmwa13485%$203,0464.5917/1

Coming out next is this Bay Filly (DAWN APPROACH (IRE) x TOUCH GOLD x ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) ) that is the only filly making the start in this race to take on the boys. She has done very well for the owner in her thirteen career starts and hit the boards in eleven races. She has had two wins in a row at the Allowance level and the own feels it is time to give her a graded opportunity. Last time on the track in Ireland she would go 16 furlongs in a $81000 Local Allowance where she would run away from this field to get the win by over 26 lengths. She has had one start on an off track in her career which did not seem to bother her as she won that race. The big question this weekend is can she move up to make her first graded start and beat the boys when she heads over to her gate representing The Mecca residency.

9LOOKIN AT BLOODCHI3Mmiddleclass0G O Rainbow7371%$126,58011.005/1

Making his way out to the final gate in this race will be this Light Grey Colt (LOOKIN AT LUCKY x ARROGATE x MEDAGLIA D’ORO ) that has five hits on the boards in his seven career starts. He would pick up an Allowance win two starts back and then he would move back up in class for his most recent start in Ontario on a track listed as “good” as he went 10 furlongs in the G2, The Fake Honeymoon Stakes. He put up a nice effort against this field as he crossed the wire in third with a 104 speed rating. He is headed back out this weekend looking for another big effort as he searches for a graded win representing the Florida Racing Club residency.

Good luck to all owners and horses!
