Sunday Vacation Bet Results

The results of my hopeful day are in.   As a reminder, I ran off to the local Sim-OTB to make some money for an upcoming vacation.  For the past 5-months, I forgot to put away weekly funds into our Vacation Club and being that we are heading off on vacation, my wife thought it would be wise for me to take money out of the account ahead of time, so we would be ready to go.  I knew the money wasn’t at the level it should be and plotted a path by telling my wife I would hit the bank then go visit my mother, 2-hours away since I had not seen her in a long time.  Instead, I went off to bet the horse to hopefully make up funds ($250 in total) for our trip.

In the Dell Web Oaks, I did a $5 win-place show bet on my horse, Love Achmed, who finished fifth and never a serious contender.  Fortunately, I boxed this one with Rabbi’s Knight and Dubawi Beauty, who ran first & second for a nice return of $221.60.  Right off the start, I nearly made back the $250. I wagered.  LOOKING TO BE A FANTASTIC DAY!!!!

The Pat O’Ryan Handicap was also very nice!   I hooked together El Conguero Mayor, Malak Quays and Leao in a boxed exacta and they filled in the top three spots.  Exacta netted $76.20 bringing me up to $297.20.   I’m in the money now!!!  Trifecta would have been over $500, but I can’t dwell on what could have been.   LET THE BANKROLL GROW!!!!

The Garden Handicap is where I put a $5 win-place on Nica and after leading for the first half of the race, he hit the wall, finishing last.  I also tossed $5 show bet on Torn Asunder who finished second and paid $3.30 for show, or $8.25 on my five-buck bet.  Lost a little here, but cashed in one ticket to bring my wallet up to $305.45.

Next was the The Upper New York Special and I boxed three horses for a $12 bet and only one of the three (Ghosterdini-second) hit the board.  The others tanked on me.  That’s ok, I wasn’t thrilled with the field anyway.

I had high hopes on Casa Central in  The Lake Flacid and laid out a $5 win-place-show wager on her as well as a $1 box exacta using her with all the other horses in the field.  She hit the board, but it was in third, losing out the all important 2nd place spot in a photo which killed all of my exacta hopes.   The show bet came through and gave me $15 (paid $6 on a deuce wager).  Wallet now contains $320.45

Lose my Magic won the The Chicago Oaks and was part of my boxed exacta which came apart as You Cannot Pass lost a photo for the place spot by a nose, and killed my shot at another exacta.  Emperor Conveyor was a few strides back in fifth and was the other runner in my wager.

In my eyes, the The Polish Damsire was a 3-horse race and I made a $2 trifecta wager using Texas Dynamite, Turbo Drop and Hollywood Thoughts.   I got this one right and they took the top three spots!!!   Payout was $77.90 and a bit higher than expected.  Wallet getting thicker with $398.35 in it!!

I placed a $4 win-place-show wager on a mudder (Aggressive Energy) in the The North Country Derby hoping that the 9/1 odds would be paying off nicely.  The horse looked promising, taking command of the field but flopped in the stretch, finishing 7th.  I boxed him with Nevado, who finished worse in 9th.  No rewards this time out.

I left money behind in the Yorkshire Oaks on a three horse boxed exacta when only one of my picks hit the board, Evil Jezzabel (2nd).  The others were 4th (Atomic Angel) and 5th (Herrsherr).  No luck with this race.

In The A Bomb, I picked horses just by name, as the field was loaded with 2-yr olds and anything can happen with them.  I boxed three horses and 9/1 Russian Kingmambo went last to first to beat the field.  Station Study (4th) and Street Miracle (7th) could not join him to complete the exacta.

The Jimcrack was another 2-yo graded stake race and Hepatrix stood out as the class of the field, winning all 4 of his previous races.  He made it 5 in-a-row which was good for me as I placed a $10 win-place wager on his nose.  On a $2 wager, he paid $7.40 for the win and $4.00 for place.  This equates to $37.00 and $20.00 for my wages, or a total of $57-bucks.   Brining my return up to $455.50 so far.

Another three horse boxed exacta was laid out by me in the Rose Garden Handicap.  Only Slave of Pharoah would hit the board (second) with the other two finishing 8th (American Giant Gal) and 9th (LA Penney).  A very poor outcome on a race I was fairly confident I would snag something.

Wrapping up my day was the Shimko Classic and I went with the favorite Si You Southpaw placing $2 straight exactas using him on top of every horse in the field.  Got busted as this guy ran a disappointing fourth.  But all was not lost, this was the final race I bet and I had $6 let and tossed it on a show bet with Harewood House LV who finished third in a photo (finally, a photo went my way)!  He paid $4.40 on a $2-buck bet, bringing me $13.20 on my wager.

I ended up with $468.70 and was pleased with the outcome.   So I went home to my wife and she greeted me at the door:

Wife:  “How was the visit with your mother?  How is she doing?’

Me:  hesitating for a moment and recalling that I told her I was going to visit her “Oh, she’s doing well and sends her love”

Wife:  “Oh yea?  How did you fare at the Sim OTB today?  You forgot to fund our Vacation Club, didn’t you.  I know where you were.  I ran into Tim at the supermarket today and he said he saw you over at the OTB”.

Me:  “Awww…yea.. about that…”

I’ll stop here as it got uglier and you don’t want to know the details.  Trust me on this.
