Sunday Bets for Needed Vacation Kash

This morning, my lovely wife reminded me that we will be heading off on vacation at the end of next week and we have to get ready. So I hauled the suitcases upstairs so we can start the packing process. Then the question came.

Wife: “Do we have money in our Vacation Club?”

Me: “Of course we do” the back of my mind kicked in and reminded me that I stopped funding it 5 months ago.

Wife: “You should go to the bank today and take it out so we’ll be ready when it’s time to go”.

Me: “Darling, you are right, I’ll do that right now. I think i’ll pay a visit to my mother while I’m out”

Wife: “Do you have to do that now?” she said a bit disturbed.

Me: “Well, we will be away for quite a while and I haven’t seen her in about 2 months. She’s not in the best of health”

Wife: “Ok, so you’ll be gone quite a while then, makes sense otherwise we’d have to go right after we get back”

I’m glad she’s agreeing.

Wife; “Do you need me to go? I have a lot of cleaning to do here and I do not want to come home to a messy home”.

I’m even happier that she’s staying behind.

Me: “That would be great. I’ll pick up dinner on the way home” I kissed her and took off to the bank.

I arrive at the bank and the account has $250 in it. Not enough. I take it out and try to figure out how I can quickly make this roll before next week. I figure I can use the good ‘ole credit card for some of the expenses on vacation, but that will have to be paidoff at some time. We will definitely need cash for incidentals and other stuff. Then it hits me…..the local Sim-OTB. I’ll go there and bet on the big races. Races that can have good payoffs!!! I know I can grow my money!!!

I enter the Sim-OTB and pick up the program and target all the big stake races for Sunday, August 10th. Here are my bets:

Dell Web Oaks (California)

Betting $5 win-place-show on the 4 horse Love Achmed. She won last time out pulling away from the field by over three-strides. Plus I have a close connection to the owner. That will cost me $15. I’m latching her up in a $2 boxed exacta with the Dubawi Beauty (post 1) who has won by good size margins in her last two starts and the 5-horse Rabbi’s Night Solinha who has finished first or second in all 7 of her career starts. (Exacta total cost $12)

Total Bets $27. Remaining Funds $223.

The Pat O’Ryan Handicap (California)

I’m doing a three horse boxed exacta in this race. Inside horses look the beat to me with 1-Leao consistently in the money, throwing out last start which was a poor effort and should recover this time. 2-Malak Quays has won four of last five and fits well here and 5-El Conguero Mayor who has struggled a bit in graded races but won 7 of 14 careerwise and should do well here.

Total Bets $12. Remaining Funds $221.

The Garden Handicap (Kentucky)

I like the 5-horse Nica. She has a 4-1-0 record in routes in 5 starts and career 116 best speed in last. Placing $5 win-place bet on her. For fun, I’ll add a $5 show bet on the 4-horse Torn Asunder who ran turf last time and comes back to the soil. Last time she did this, she won.

Total Bets $15. Remaining Funds $206.

The Upper New York Special (New York)

I’m not too excited with this field. A bunch of 2-year olds wtih minimal starts. So I’ll do a three horse $2 boxed exacta using 16/1 Wreckit Buyanewon as he has won both starts and I’m amused by the name. I’ll add the 1-horse Ghoterdini who has a 7th and 4th in graded company races and adds a smidge of distance which could help him out this time. I’ll wrap up the exacta with the 7-horse Sunday Grey’s who won his only start with an 83 speed by over 3-lengths and nice 9/1 odds.

Total Bets $12. Remaining Funds $194.

The Lake Flacid (New York)

Casa Central (post 11) has 5 wins and one place in 6 route races. She is a solid late runner and moves up to graded company. I think she handle this jump and I’ll place $5 win-place-show wager on her ($15 total). I’ll also do a $1 box with her and the rest of the field (10 other runners) for a total of $20.

Total Bets $35 Remaining fund $159.

The Chicago Oaks (Illinois)

Filly You Cannot Pass (post 6) showed she likes the long distance, finished second by a head going 9 flanks in last. Using her in a $2 three horse boxed exacta. I’ll add the post-7 filly Lose My Magic who also missed by a head in her last outing and ran speeds of 105 and 107 in last two appearances. Empire Conveyor (post 10) adds nice 9/1 value and she won three of her last four starts (the wins were at 9-9.5 furlongs which are good for this race).

Total Bets $12. Remaining Funds $147.

The Polish Damsire (Ontario)

A six-horse field with only three contenders. So I will do a $2 trifecta bet with Texas Dynamite (post 4), a horse that hits 100+ speeds everytime he’s on the track. Turbo Drop (post 5) who is a late runner and will enjoy the 12f distance and the post-6 speedster Hollywood Thoughts who should take the lead and may not look back.

Total Bets $12. Remaining Funds $135.

The North Country Derby (Ontario)

The track is wet in Ontario and I like Aggressive Energy (post 3) who has won a pair of offtrack races by large margins. Granted, they were tiny fields and this is the first time he faces a field larger than five and also his first stakes race. I like the 9/1 odds and will make a $4 win-place-show wager on him. Also, I will box him with Nevado (post 4) in a $2 exacta box.

Total Bets $18. Remaining Funds $117.

Yorkshire Oaks (Surrey)

Lots to like in this race and I’m doing a $2 exacta box using four horses this time. Favorite Evil Jezzabel has been hitting speeds north of 110 for a long time and always seems to be in-the-money (post 3). Herrsherr (post 11) has won three in a row and looks to be in very fine form. Atomic Angel (post 9) has never been off the board in 19 runs and has 110+ speeds in last 5. Wild Impulse (post 4) has also been shining with 110+ speeds in four of her last five races and taking taking 3 wins in the process.

Total Bets $24. Remaining Funds $93.

The A Bomb (Surrey)

Another race with 2 year olds that have less than a handful of starts. I’m doing a $2 exacata box in this race with three horses, picking names I like. Street Miracle (post 1) as it may be a miracle if I hit this race. Station Study (post 5) as I didn’t study this race too closely and Russian Kingmambo (post 7) because how bad can a Kingmambo named horse be?

Total Bets $12. Remaining Funds $81.

The Jimcrack (Surrey)

And we have another 2-year old grade level race. In this one, Hepatrix (post 4) stands out, won 4 of 4 and 90-speeds in last two, grade level win in last by over 2-lengths. Placing $10 win-place wager on his nose.

Total Bets $20. Remaining Funds $61.

Rose Garden Handicap (Mexico)

Lots of horses with opportunities in this field. I’m going with a $2 exacta box on three horses. LA Penney (post 7) is verstile on both dirt and turf. Has 3-1-0 record in 4 dirt starts and 114 lifetime best speed in last. Slave of Pharoah (post 8) has not won in a long time but 110+ speeds in last 6 are hard to ignore. American Giant Gal (post 11) has late speed ability and can handle the dropback in distance to 9f. In addition, I’ll make a $3 win-place-show wager on each of these runners.

Total Bets $39 Remaining Funds $22

Shimko Classic (Japan)

Favorite Si You Southpay (post 9) is the one to beat and has won last five starts with 110+ speeds. I’m placing $2 exacta bets using him on top of the other 8 runners in the field for a $16 total wager. This will leave $6 in my hand which I will use on Harewood House LV as a place bet and hope his 6/1 odds can deliver some extra cash.

I hope that I can make up some of the vacation funds that I forgot to deposit weekly…for the past 5 months. Or I’ll be in the dog house when I have to confess with the wife. Wish me luck!!!

Fun times Ken although I am not sure I can forgive you for not picking one of my TWO entries in the Garden in KY!

I’m sorry to hear that. As I was going to beg for forgiveness later today. Since I won’t get it, I won’t go through the steps and bring back the gold necklace I bought as part of my plea in seeking forgiveness.
