Kentucky Weather Kept Me Away

Kentucky Weather Kept Me Away

Auction 3805:  The ice storm in Kentucky over the weekend prevented me from attending the sale in person as all flights were delayed or canceled.  Thank goodness for fax machines as the wonderful people in the sale’s office sent me all the pertinent information minutes after the sale was over.  I did hitch a ride in Nextbonus’ private jet to Tennessee to watch Bob The Cob annihilate the competition in his farewell race so the weekend was worth it.  This weekend at the sale barn the weather kept people away and a lot fewer horses entered the ring.   Eight horses sold for over a million dollars although most sold in the one to two million dollar range.  Of the 19 senior citizens, eight years and older, four sold for more than a dollar and the high seller was #78778, Eminent Honor an 8 YO brown stallion who sold for $22,500 to Sabremasta.

The Top Five Millionaires:

The top selling horse this week was a handsome under-achiever named Sinister Street, hip # 173795.  Consigned by Pointblank, the 2 YO dark bay colt is by Street Sense and out of a Deputy Minister mare.  Shades came out the high bidder, paying $1,773,553.00 for the honor. Shades, like many, believes that this colt can and will improve on his current 0/3 record and couldn’t wait to get him home.

Reserve honors went to a well-bred 3 YO filly by Smarty Jones, # 149911 named Limited.  The pretty 3 YO bay filly is out of the Woodman mare California Limited who started 20 times and won two of them.  She is also the dam of four foals to race, three of them winners.  Limited has won two of her 11 starts and finished in the money in eight of them, but for various reasons has only started twice since August.  Consigned by Jayvee, the hammer dropped at $1,600,001.00 and it was Bonnied who signed the ticket on this nice filly.

Hip number #126330 was a solid looking 4 YO chestnut colt named Vates.  By Came Home out of the Dynaformer mare Dynalou, he has just this year matured enough to start and figure things out.  Vates has won six of his 28 starts and four of them came this year when he started to turn out some triple digit speed figures.  His dam has four foals to race, all of them winners and one is stakes placed.  Ceclaim10 sold this one to Laxe for $1,500,000.00.

Shoreup22 led in #162728 Indigo Girl, a lovely grey, 3YO filly sired by AP Indy and out of a Grey Dawn II mare.  Running for a low claim of $2,000 in her last start she came out of the race still a maiden with a record of 0/7 lifetime.  Indigo Girl is still lightly raced and Levers believes that with her improving speed figures, she will turn into a better horse with age.  Levers forked over $1,486,276.00 to test his theory.

Although he is still a maiden, #171516 Fine Dining has only started three times and is another that should improve with age and distance.  The 2 YO copper chestnut colt is by Dynaformer out of a Nureyev mare.  Chloedawg2 needed the stall and consigned this big red colt to the sale where Ceclaim19 signed the ticket for $1,450,251.00

That’s it for this week, and again I am sorry for the abbreviated version over the holidays.  Good Luck with all your auction purchases.
