Insome Gold Comfortably In Mother Story

It’s probably too early to looking ahead to next May from a betting point of view, but trainers of Triple Crown contenders will be framing their programs with a view to qualifying for these upcoming classics. If there were a market being available for the Oaks series, there’s very little doubt as to which filly would be heading those markets. So impressive was Insome Gold in the final Grade 1 mile race of the juvenile season, that connections can now plan their attack at their leisure, knowing that, at least for now, their star filly is the meauring stick.

An interesting race from the outset, with a line of three in the lead. Another line of three camped behind the leaders to be in good striking positions, while the remainder of the field saved their energy early, concentrating on positioning themselves for the final sprint.

SDSD took full advantage of the inside draw, her jockey choosing to set the pace. Desideria camped outside her and Six Oasis, drawn widest, used a bit of energy to shuffle across to sit outside that pair. Insome Gold was superbly positioned behind the leader, with Torch The Track outside her. The Roof Is On F moved across from her widish gate and was content to sit three deep. Encostacat had eased back in search of a sit closer to the rail, but was kept a bit wide by Fourth Seal Opened. Just off them, Touch was keeping close enough to prevent Encostacat from gaining cover closer to the rail. Arias had eased toward the rear with Coal Valley, Poison Arrow also trapped wide and Ken’s Mystery, rearward, but nicely positioned. Respond To This had no intention of responding to anything in the early furlongs.

Very little change as they worked down the back at a leisurely clip. SDSD was traveling comfortably without pressure, and her jockey clearly had no interest in track records or the like. The order remained the same, but they had been strung out a bit with the backmarker, Respond To This, giving away the best part of eleven lengths.

Rounding the bend and jockeys began to get serious. Six Oasis was first to show signs of distress, and Desideria was trying to improve but finding the going tough. Insome Gold set out after SDSD, who was still traveling well and obviously prepared for a fight. Torch The Track was still looking some sort of chance and several of the closers, including Touch, Poison Arrow and Arias, were working into the picture

Into the straight and Insome Gold had stolen a march. After a superb ride, and a perfectly time run, she took the lead and headed for home. The closers were coming, but she had plenty left, and the wire was getting closer. There was to be no doubt about the winner as Insome Gold cruised home with a couple of lengths to spare. But there was still plenty of excitement in the contest for the minor prizes. SDSD was battling on bravely while Touch was making good ground. As they crossed the line together, both sets of connections thought they’d get the photo, but SDSD had held on from a courageous Touch.

Torch The Track had run an honest, even race without looking likely to win. She took fourth, holding out the big closers.

Poison Arrow who, outside the winner, ran the fastest closing sectionals, took the last check.

Arias was terribly unfortunate to go home empty handed, having finished just a length off the second placegetter.

Encostacat and The Roof Is On F both ran forward races, boxing on stoutly, even when out of winning contention.

Desideria was up there early before fading.

Cole Valley made a little ground from well back.

Fourth Seal Opened ran a better race than this scribe expected.

Kens Mystery was always well back.

Six Oasis burnt herself out racing fast and wide early.

Respond To This failed to respond.

Insome Gold is a two year old daughter of Invasor from Awegoldy (Awesome Again / Seeking The Gold). This was her fifth win from seven starts and lifts her earnings above $ 578k. She ran the mile in 1.35.8, returning a speed rating of 97. Previously ranked # 7 in her division, she now sees out the year at the top of the list.

Tenpin8 is a member of the 32 barn “Rockriver Stables”;  five stables are active supporters of Minnesota Downs, but most, including this one, are aligned with Great Plains Residency 2008. Not short of overall depth of talent, the leading earner for the barn is Fandepgroom (Fantastic Light). Insome Gold is now in second place, but two others also boast earnings above $400,000, namely Seeking To Rule (Seeking The Gold) and Dancing Tenpin (Theatrical)

At the Window: We found the winner with our first pick and she paid a handy $16.50, but our exotics are now scrap paper, with our other selections running fourth and last.
