G1, Union Jack Flyer Stakes
This week we are headed over to California to see the running of the G1, Union Jack Flyer Stakes this Saturday afternoon. The race is restricted to 3 year old and older fillies and mares. It will be at the distance of 8 furlongs, and the track is to be listed as fast dirt at post time. The race has drawn a field of eight horses that will start this weekend, and the field looks very competitive at first glance. But with the morning line odds posted and the post positions drawn let’s take a preview of the eight fillies and mares that will head out at post time for the running of the G1, Union Jack Flyer Stakes.

Heading out first we will see in the inside gate this 5 year old Brown Mare (TWIRLING CANDY x DISTORTED HUMOR x STORM CAT) that is no stranger in making G1 starts. During the 2024 season she failed to pick up a G1 win but did hit the boards in several of her starts. In her first race of the 2025 season, she would head out in Florida going 8.5 furlongs in the G1, the Swapsco Kitty Stakes. She found difficulty in this race and would not factor when she passed under the wire in ninth with a 106 speed rating. She will be seeking a rebounding effort in the start on Saturday to get back on the boards representing the Down Under Racing residency.
| 2 | CLONTARFY | KY | 5F | saughduss | J Dizzle | 11 | 5 | 91% | $777,825 | 100.00 | 9/2 |
Making her way out next is this 5 year old Bay Mare (FLATTER x TIZNOW x SUMMER SQUALL) that in her three most recent starts has found the boards which included a couple of nice wins. Three starts back she was second in the G2, Good Times Handicap and she followed that up with a win in the G3, Wave Your Wand Stakes. She then made her most recent start here in California where she would travel 8.5 furlongs in the G1, the Santa Marina Handicap. She got out of the gate and grabbed the lead and never let go as she led this field to the wire to get the win with a 117 speed rating. The owner is looking for another good performance out of his horse this weekend when she heads over to her gate to the cheers of an excited crowd.
| 3 | LOUISVILLE GENES | IN | 5F | atwbp | F Oxon | 29 | 9 | 55% | $473,856 | 10.13 | 7/1 |
Next, we will see this 5 year old Bay Mare (SHAGAF x SPEIGHTSTOWN x SEEKING THE GOLD) that would move up in class two starts back in the G3, Sabian Handicap of which she would not be a factor. But her next and most recent start she would show she is a graded competitor when she headed out in Iowa going 8.5 furlongs in the G3, Dirtydirtydishragyou Stakes. She would close late and get up for a third place finish with a 109 speed rating. She is looking to once again improve from her two most recent graded starts as she heads out of the paddock representing the East-West Connection residency.
| 4 | WARISAMONEYMAKER | KY | 4F | asrstar16 | J Benisz | 15 | 5 | 40% | $540,840 | 16.00 | 7/1 |
This is a 4 year old Bay Filly (WAR FRONT x KINGMAMBO x DEPUTY MINISTER) that has had some struggles in her most recent starts and 6th seems to have been the number in her three most recent starts. Last time on the track we saw her in Arkansas going 8.5 furlongs in the G1, Orange Blossom. She was trying to close late in this race but for the third time in a row she would cross under the wire in sixth and had a 111 speed rating. She is looking to get off the number six spot and bring a little more fire power in this start on Saturday when she heads over to her post representing the Orphan Racing residency.
| 5 | SETMYSOULONFIRE | KY | 4F | intoasr | J Sands | 14 | 2 | 50% | $209,527 | 1.25 | 9/1 |
Here we have a 4 year old Bay Filly (INTO MISCHIEF x GHOSTZAPPER x DANEHILL) that has mainly run on the turf in her career but that has also made some starts on the dirt. Two starts back she would hit the wire in second in the G2, The Desperada Stakes. She would then make her most recent start here in California on the turf track going 9 furlongs in the G2, The Saint Ana. She ran fairly flat in this start and would cross the wire in sixth with a 105 speed rating. She will be headed back to the dirt this weekend to find her first hit on the boards in a graded start on the dirt. She may be a contender if she can find a good start out of the gate when she heads out representing the Orphan Racing residency.
| 6 | WILLTAKEACHEAPWIN | IRE | 5F | jarrod5 | C Orza | 25 | 7 | 56% | $267,179 | 2.25 | 8/1 |
Heading out next we have this 5 year old Bay Mare (GHAIYYATH (IRE) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x CAERLEON) that has made several nice starts at the Allowance level for the owner. I did not see a graded start on the dirt in her career but did see one unsuccessful start on the turf in a graded race last season. She has taken well to the dirt track and once again proved it in her most recent start in Spain going 7.5 furlongs in a $32400 Allowance race. She closed down the stretch sharply to get up for the win with a 115 speed rating. She is looking for her first big hit this weekend as she jumps up in class representing the East-West Connection residency.
| 7 | MOVANT | KY | 6F | hold4old | Z Ayya | 22 | 6 | 45% | $787,090 | 140.00 | 9/2 |
This is a 6 year old Brown Mare (LAOBAN x SUMMER SQUALL x VINDICATION) who is here to defend her crown after winning the G1, Union Jack Flyer Stakes last year. She has continued to be a nice horse for the owner with many hits on the boards. Last time out she would be seen here in California going 7.5 furlongs in the G1, Sand Storm Stakes. This would not be one of her better trips as she crossed under the wire in ninth with a 106 speed rating. She has the ability and did come in second two starts back in the G2, Distaff Breeders Bowl Cap. She is seeking to find another big effort this weekend when she heads out in the post parade to the cheers of an excited crowd.
| 8 | RUN FOR LAUGHS | KY | 5F | rockriver5 | W Kewmwa | 17 | 8 | 71% | $1,743,540 | 144.00 | 5/2 |
Breaking from the final gate in this race is this 5 year old Chestnut Mare (GUN RUNNER x DISTORTED HUMOR x SEEKING THE GOLD) that three starts back would get the win in the G1, The Bra Snap. She would be off the boards in her next start before making her most recent start here in California going 8.5 furlongs in the G1, the Santa Marina Handicap. She struggled against a tough field in this race and would cross the wire in seventh with a 107 speed rating. She is seeking her first hit on the boards this season and would like to see her number lit up on the boards when she heads out at post time representing the East-West Connection residency.
Good luck to all owners and horses!
