La Peach Memorial

A field of four is entered into the 2-mile marathon La Peach Memorial. A modest purse of $50,000 is on the line, and with the short field, everyone running will walk away with a chunk of change. The race is set to go on the dirt and the weatherman is predicting nice weather for the weekend, so we are looking at a fast track.

Starting at the rail is GYRON, who is set as the heavy 1-2 favorite. Gyron s the most experienced in this field in running routes, pulling in six wins in 25 route starts. Although she has only one start going 2 miles, a sixth place finish in a speed of 82 this past September, she has the edge in this race. Her routes are mostly in speeds in the 90-range and even with the 82 for 2 miles, this seems to far exceed the abilities of her competition.

CHARLIE’S MIX 5-2 is a sim-computer entry that has never run more than 9 furlongs leaving from post 2. Charlie shows some game efforts running sprints against lower class horses. The odds on Charlie seem too generous for a horse who is untested going any distance over a mile. Unless the oddsmakers know something going on in the barns, I don’t see this one reaching the wire first.

TO THE MAX 39-1 comes in with extremely high odds for such a small field and starts from post 3. To The Max ran 14 furlongs in early November finishing 3rd in a short field of four and a disappointing speed of 46. Her last outing was more promising with a win at 9 furlongs in a speed of 69 against allowance. To The Max probably won’t win this, but does stand a chance to hit the board. Would a show bet pay more than $2.10 on a 39-1 shot in this race? It may, but not much more.

Leaving from post four is I’AM BUSTING who is set at 5-2 odds. I’Am Busting has the best chance of anyone to upset Gyron in this race. This mare has won 4 of 7 routes and has a 3-win race streak on the line. She will probably be the leader early on in the race and recently won a 13 furlong event in a speed of 73. She also shows a race at 11 furlongs a few months ago where she posted a speed of 79. Her best speeds have been recorded going the distance of a mile.

Top pick is to Gyron who has the speed numbers and class advantage. She is well placed in this field and should have no problems.

I’Am Busting is second selection and looks to be the next best in this race.

To The Max gets my third choice as Charlie’s Mix is untested going this distance and is being asked to run almost double the distance she has in the past.

Good luck to all!
