How to Eat With A Silver Spoon

How does one eat with a silver spoon?  Is it any different than a normal spoon?  What is a normal spoon?  What is a silver spoon? Well I will only attempt to answer the last question and leave you pondering on the first three for now.  On googling it I found that silver spoon means “the inherited wealth of established upper-class families”.  In other words, wealth or money that is inherited rather than earned.  That’s the name of this race today in the G2 Silver Spoon Juvenile but the difference is these runners will be earning their money today by racing at breakneck speed over a mile on a track that has been rated as firm turf.  The wealth on offer is a cool $225,000 and is for the young 2yo fillies that are on offer today.

Let’s take a look at these 14 runners and see which ones look promising if any.  If any? Surely some of them are up and coming champions.  Definitely faster than are in any of my stables haha….

1 STRATEVIC(IRE)

Owner: roberto
Record: 5-3-2-0
Earnings: $91,930
Jockey: M Clubb
Odds: 22/1

Has raced four times on the turf for 2 wins and 2 second places with one of those races ( a second place finish) in the Senorita Eminent Memorial Stakes.  Sits towards the rear of the field and finishes strongly.  The distance here will be no problem at all.  Last time out debuted on dirt over 8 furlongs in Allowance company and won that by a head after again finishing well.  Good record then on both dirt and turf to date.  Step up here sure and will need a step up in speed too. If you want a roughie to back look at this one.

2 LAND’S HEART(JPN)

Owner: graywolf32
Record:
Earnings:
Jockey: V Ching
Odds: 22/1

Another at 22/1 on the tote who is out of Heart’s cry x Skip Away x Dixieland Band. 9 races already this year after starting her career back in March so has been raced solidly but not overly either.  7 runs on the turf where she has been much more successful after an unsuccessful start on dirt.  One win only in a maiden but has performed well at higher levels too including a 4th place finish in a G2 More Glare Stakes and the other noted one is a third place finish over 7 furlongs in The Age of Darkness Challenge Stakes. While she has run over this distance in her maiden win she has been fading in her last few races against classier competition.  Is going to find this tough here.

3 BROAD DAYLIGHT(IRE)

Owner: foxon2
Record: 3-2-0-1
Earnings: $33,820
Jockey: R Rice
Odds: 9/1

Hates the night in fact is quite scared of leaving her stable once the sun starts to go down luckily for her this race is in broad daylight.  Only 3 runs to date but of most interest is her last outing in Allowance company over 8 furlongs where she ran a blistering speed of 88 to get her second win.  She has been getting better with each run to date and I think is a real chance to figure in the top three here.  Specially if she backs up her last run with a similar one today.  Bred out of Teofilo x A.P. Indy x Northern Dancer looks like one who can seriously challenge.

4 LE BALLET D’OR(ENG)

Owner: ziklag2
Record: 4-2-0-1
Earnings: $121,120
Jockey: W Meeks
Odds: 12/1

From  Dansili(GB) x Rahy x Kris(GB) this filly has 2 wins from 4 outings all on turf. Her two wins came from her maiden on debut over 5 furlongs and then backed that up with her second win in August in the Sadler’s Ok Stakes over 6 furlongs.  She then jumped up to the G1 Filly Grand Prix over 8 furlongs where she finished third and her career top speed of 86.  She ran well but wasn’t challenging the leader in the straight.  Last time out again at G1 level in the Graduation Stakes over 8.5 furlongs she finishing a disappointing 13th and lost her way in the final race to the line.  This will be hard as well for her.

5 CHRISTIE(KY)

Owner: rappatomac
Record: 8-4-3-0
Earnings: $187,520
Jockey: Y Mills
Odds: 9/1

If you discount her run in the G1 Leukemia Lymphoma Society over 6 furlongs where she finished 12th, she has never run worse than second place including runs at Stakes level.  In fact except for that G1, she has run at Stakes level 3 other times resulting in 3 wins. That’s a pretty good effort.  Out of Flower Alley x Silver Deputy x Cape Town she looks very very consistent.  Getting the chance again now at Group level, she needs to repeat her last run of a speed rating of 91 to challenge here.  Could be there at the end.

6 TAMORA(IND)

Owner: chop
Record: 6-3-2-0
Earnings: $295,870
Jockey: G Mitchell
Odds: 5/1

Last run was a great run for this filly out of Marcus Andronicus x Seattle Slew x Sadler’s wells with a speed of 92 over 7.5 furlongs in the G3 Honey Dew Stakes. The followed a win over 7 furlongs in the G2 More Glare Stakes. The sixth foal out of Beauty and Me who has produced 2 group winners now including this runner, she looks in form and ready to go here.  The extra distance should not pose a problem even though she is untried at the mile.  One I will definitely have in my top 3.

7 BLUSHING SPIRIT(IRE)

Owner: beabono
Record: 7-3-1-0
Earnings: $98,510
Jockey: S Wooley
Odds: 9/1

Out of Invincible Spirit(IRE) x Blushing Groom(FR) x Sadler’s Wells is coming off a disappointing run in the G1 Graduation Stakes over 8.5 furlongs where she ran about mid-race but then couldn’t go up another gear in the final stretch finishing 11th across the line. Runs before that were good with a win in teh You O.K. Memorial Stakes over 8 and a speed of 87. Prior to that was a win at Allowance level over the same distance.  This is harder and will need to hold on to be a serious contender.

8 HANNAH’S FLYER(ENG)

Owner: rharfbeam1
Record: 6-4-1-1
Earnings: $447,644
Jockey: T Brewer
Odds: 7/1

Coming off 3 consecutive wins is in outstanding form after winning last time out in the G1 Graduation Stakes with a speed of 91. She ran that race like a true champion sitting just off the leaders for much of the race and then making her move in the stretch to take it out. Apart from her maiden win her other two wins were both Stakes level. Dropping down slight in class here should be one of the contenders at the end.  Definitely consider this one.

9 WARRIOR GAL(KY)

Owner: grayhorse
Record: 8-2-5-1
Earnings: $135,075
Jockey: H Harbert
Odds: 14/1

Out of her 8 runs, she has run 4 times on an off track with 2 wins and 2 second place finishes in those races including the Baby River Memorial Stakes.  Last time out on a firm track in the Age of Darkness Challenge Stakes over 7 furlongs she finished in 2nd place and looking for extra distance. Having raced up to 9 furlongs already in her career the 1 mile here won’t pose a problem.  One of the longer shots here – I’d definitely back her on an off track though. Keep her running on those tracks I reckon.

10 LAND OF PROMISE(FR)

Owner: achiew
Record: 5-2-1-2
Earnings: $128,060
Jockey: R Dillungham
Odds: 25/1

This folks is the longshot of the race. Just listen to this.  Never finished worse than third in her whole career. Ran third in the G3 Treasure Got Ripped Off Stakes over 6.5 furlongs.  Got a win at Allowance level over 7 furlongs.  Backed that up last time out with a second place finish in the G2 More Glare Stakes over 7 furlongs. All of those races she finished very strongly.  This is the runner I’m backing to take this out today. Im going to put some serious cash on her each way. No idea why she is at such long odds but I plan to take advantage of that.  Has to be there at the end surely.

11 DUBAI SPIRIT(KY)

Owner: vicki
Record: 2-1-1-0
Earnings: $81,240
Jockey: P Kelly
Odds: 8/1

Only 2 runs and both of those on an off track but with very good speeds of 83 in her maiden win and then 80 in the G2 Manofjunk Stakes over 8.5 furlongs and a second place finish. Hard to tell what this filly is going to do on a firm track but if she runs better than previously she will be a serious challenger here.  Watch this one.

12 CROSSING DYNA(IRE)

Owner: jmahls
Record: 7-4-0-2
Earnings: $183,584
Jockey: D Aldridge
Odds: 10/1

Out of Dubawi(IRE) x Cape Cross(IRE) x Dynaformer this one is in good form and running well.  Likes plenty of distance and this may well be far too short for her.  Two runs back got her 4th win and 3rd at Stakes level in the Lolland Stakes over 7.5 furlongs.  Last run was in the G1 Graduation Stakes over 8.5 furlongs where she made her run too late and finished strongly in 7th place.  Needs to time her run early but may need more distance to win.

13 MISS STREET(KY)

Owner: kobras6
Record: 4-2-2-0
Earnings: $121,750
Jockey: C Shinkle
Odds: 8/1

From Street Cry(IRE) ran a booming run last time out in the NWRC Cavalcade Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies 2008 over 8.5 furlongs for a 2nd place finish and a top speed of 94. Was in the lead for much of the race and was overtaken in the final stretch. Back a bit in distance here so shouldn’t falter at the last.  Has had a run over 8 furlongs in the Four Bee(NZ) Memorial Stakes on an off track and won there comfortably with a slower speed of 75.  All up should go well here – needs to hold on in the final dash for the line.

14 IN THE SACK(ENG)

Owner: leilani
Record: 4-2-0-1
Earnings: $119,660
Jockey: P Smith
Odds: 8/1

Couple of big races of late this one from Sakhee x Alleged x Cozzene.  Last two outings have both been at G1 level.  Last time out finishing 3rd over 8.5 furlongs in the G1 Graduation Stakes and before that in the G1 Filly Grand Prix over 8 furlongs with a 4th place finish. Likes the distance here and probably would like more.  Two wins to her name at Maiden and Stakes level is a real chance here.  Needs a good run and better her top speed of 88.

So 14 runners and few who are going to struggle. Big race though and a good prize purse on offer.  My picks are:

10 LAND OF PROMISE(FR)
11 DUBAI SPIRIT(KY)
8 HANNAH’S FLYER(ENG)
