Blazzing Saddles Showdown: The Distaff
Now up is another feature of the Blazzing Saddles Residency Showdown, the Distaff, we’re back at sunny Arizona, and 8 Fillies and Mares are ready to take on each other over 9f on the fast dirt. We have joint favourites, representing proud members Kloie and pilgrim, but let’s take an in-depth look at the field:
#1 MALIBU STACY(KY) 4/1

Resident: Goosetown
26 Races – 5 Wins – 167,537$
The 4yo Congaree Filly has shown a nice form recently, running in ALW conditions, as she is winless for more than a year, she had a nice stretch of 2nd places with speeds of 100+ in her last 4 races, it’s tough to judge her, but looking at the rest of the field she should just find herself near the lead coming to the stretch, she is a usual slow starter, and may have a shot at this light race.
#2 AWESOME PEGASUS(KY) 22/1
http://www.simulatedsports.net/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=40410
Resident: Stylez
4 Races – 3 Wins – 37,080$
The 3yo Awesome Again filly is coming into the race without experience, and it will only be her 5th race, but what a career she had so far, in her 3rd race she ran the 8f in 110, just to find herself in a stakes race afterwards. She proofed she can’t stay 11f, and we should just forget her October showing. Stylez seems to like running her with 6-7 weeks rest, and that should just fit here, it’s a 9f race, and we’ll see if she can handle the shorter distance better. Expect anything here, this filly can take the race by storm or come in last, anything is possible.
#3 PICNIC MARAUDER 7/2
http://www.simulatedsports.net/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=104380
Resident: Kloie
26 Races – 6 Wins – 159,925$
The 5yo Red Ransom Mare brings some experience, and has been improving as she got older, now finally reaching her prime in Stakes races. Her last 3 Races she finished in the Top 3 in Stakes races from 8-10f, running solid 100+ speeds. She won 3 out of her 5 last ALW races, and seems to take the ladder of classes step by step. The next step is this Blazzing Saddles Event, which she will attack with all her class. She looks very solid, and will be a sure Top 3 pick, she may have to take the lead, if no one else chooses to, but also can stalk a nice pace.
#4 BATHSHEBA II(KY) 9/2
http://www.simulatedsports.net/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=154505
Resident: Galileo
10 Races – 3 Wins – 240,590$
The 3yo Rock Hard Ten Filly looks very nice, and her way has been all the way up in her short career so far, she looked very solid, when finishing 4th in the Equinics 10f race for 3yo fillies, and since then has been aiming at Graded Races all the way, yet having to win at that class. The Blazzing Saddles showdown may give her some confidence back, as the 9f seem her best distance, her last 2 races over 9f she ran a great 107, finishing 2nd in a Grade 2 and 4th in a Grade 2. A 107 would give lots of horses trouble in the small Residency field. As she likes to set her own pace early the field may suit her even better.
#5 CONCENTRATED(KY) 7/2
http://www.simulatedsports.net/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=24928
Resident: Pilgrim
23 Races – 5 Wins – 131,995$
The 4yo Pulpit filly so far had a tough stand, when tackling Stakes Races, her last try was back in August and she backfired an 11th place with a sub par 96. Her last two races she showed returning form, finishing 2nd and 3rd in ALWs with speeds of just 100+, likely she’ll need to get her best race today to become worthful of her favourite role, and it’s likely one of the 3yos will steel the show, as she is a horse that likes to trail the field early.
#6 STEVIE’S SONG 10/1
http://www.simulatedsports.net/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=792
Resident: Bluehorse
41 Races – 11 Wins – 138,389$
The 8yo Stephen Got Even has seen her fate on the line in a Claimer recently, so it’s a delight for her to be entered in this bright 9f Breeders Showdown event, but well, she’s likely a little short in class, being claimed for 3500$ in June, she faced slow opposition in STR class, and won 2 out of 4, with her form falling till it got colder, last time out she finished 4th with a speed of 94 over 10f. Her best speed was a 112 back in 04, when she was 4years old, her prime, when she was entered in a few stakes events, but never could take down one, she likes to take the lead early, and likely will face a tough Batsheba to get there.
#7 TOP LAWTRESS(KY) 8/1
http://www.simulatedsports.net/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=91812
Resident: Meguire
12 Races – 5 Wins – 110,560$
Another 3yo, that shows improvement recently, the Grand Slam filly has been cracking 100+ speeds in her last 3 races, winning 2 out if the 3, with a 3rd place in a Stakes race last time out. She won a stakes race 2 back, and seems to become a nice stakes caliber filly over the 9f trip. She usually places herself at the end of the field and waits for her stretch run late, look out, if she can gun down the leaders.
#8 TO LIVE IS TO DIE(KY) 4/1
http://www.simulatedsports.net/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=124043
Resident: MTK76
32 Races – 9 Wins – 409,994$
Blazzing Residency Founder MTK76 brings another horse with lots of experience, and she was even competitive in Grade 1 company earlier this year, the 4yo Lemon Drop Kid filly ran a great race, when 2nd on the sloppy dirt in a Grade 1 for 4yo fillies in May. Since then she has been falling downwards, her 107 that day seems far out of reach at the moment, her last 3 races clocked at 99 speeds. Which was good for out of the money finished in 2 Grade 1s and a 2nd in an ALW last time out. Perhaps stepping down in class did her good, but it did not pay off immediatly, at least she has no prefered running style and most of the times places just in mid pack.
Overall i see a slight edge for the 3yos, and I think one of the so far rather inconsistent and lightly raced 3yo fillies will win the race, but let’s see how the older mares face the challenge.
