Charlie’s Tiger Juvenile

Welcome to the Bargain Bred Series and this one is the Charlie’s Tiger Juvenile, 2yo on the fast dirt over 7 furlongs and a nice purse of $125,000.

Now before we go any further I suggest if you haven’t already go and read in the Black Type Bugler an article written by Knightmare titled Bargain Bowl IV A Little History.  Well written and very interesting read.  In there I found some very interesting facts about this race. Knightmare says that no colt has ever won this race!

And in this one folks we have some fillies but can they win?  So who is going to win it.  Based on history its going to be her but lets have a detailed look and see who is running and then make some decisions after that who we are going to put our money on.

1 LAKE CARO(KY)

Owner: elbur1682
Record: 2-0-1-1
Earnings: $16,500
Jockey: L McNeil
Odds: 8/1

2yo colt out of Friends Lake x Caro Vision x Native Prospector and you can see where his name comes from. You cant???? Look again at his breeding. Friends Lake did produce the one stakes winner in 2007 so not completely unproven here but this one is still a maiden. 2 races to date, both on dirt over 6.5 furlongs in his maiden where he ran a speed of 70 and came second across the line by half a length and appeared to be finishing strongly there.  Last race was in mid October over 7 furlongs in the BBRS Colt Dirt where he came third across the line and a speed of 73. So at these odds a good each way bet really.  Probably looking for more distance based on those two runs – be good to see how he goes over 8 furlongs next I would think.

2 FORZA ITALIA(OK)

Owner: blacksoxuk
Record: 5-1-0-1
Earnings: $34,520
Jockey: V Everett
Odds: 10/1

Stands for strong italian I think. From Concern x Vettori(IRE) x Grindstone this one does have a win which she got on debut on a good dirt track where she ran an impressive 77 back in May and won wire to wire.  Has gone a little downhill on form since then although she did get a third place finish in September in the Unreviewable Special Stakes over 5.5 furlongs but was over 6 lengths behind the winner and a speed of 61.  Last time she was trialled on turf in teh First Bicuspid Stakes but didnt really produce anything except a fifth place finish or second last and some 12 lengths behind.  Speed was only 55 so she is back on the dirt here.  Will really need to pick up speed to challenge here.  Find some of that Italian force!!

3 BANTHA FODER(CA)

Owner: sinner
Record: 2-0-0-1
Earnings: $6,500
Jockey: M Atie
Odds: 12/1

Another maiden, in fact the majority of this field are maidens. A filly too from Turkoman x Slew The Coup x Sunny Clime, I guess based on the history of this race the fillies feel like they have a good chance to win.  Only two races to date where she has run 3rd and 4th  with speeds of 64 and 66.  Was finishing reasonably strongly in both of those – she just looks like she wants more distance – lots more.  So I think this is going to be too short for her as she was still closing but some 6 lengths off the lead last time out over 7 furlongs.  Would love to see her over 8 furlongs and beyond.

4 FINNISH LADY(WA)

Owner: hihihi
Record: 5-0-0-1
Earnings: $1,864
Jockey: P Graham
Odds: 49/1

Another lady haha from Milan Taizen x Loup SOlitaire x Beat Time. Well she is at long odds here, 49/1 in fact. Last time she was trialled on turf with disastrous results so she is back to dirt today.  First race on dirt was a speed of 38. Nothing there.  Next time out was a speed of 70 in July and a third place finish over 8 furlongs.  And she was still closing.  Nothing since then though. I think lots more distance, definitely on dirt and she might have a chance. Not here though I dont think.

5 ROAR JUSTICE(TX)

Owner: bargainer
Record: 3-2-0-0
Earnings: $60,000
Jockey: B Roberts
Odds: 9/1

Now having looked over the field this one has to be the favourite in my book and is going to win by a mile.  From Justice Minister x Roar X Taufan debuted on turf where he ran a scintillating (in other words slow) speed of 49 over 6 furlongs.  Swapped over to dirt where he ran first up a speed of 71 and got his first win over 6.5 furlongs.  Last time out was over 7 furlongs and he won comfortably, good speed of 78 and really looks fantastic here people.  And at 9/1 odds Id whack all your money on this one.  If there ever was a bet you can’t lose this is it.  The winner here.

6 FAST FREDDIE(PA)

Owner: mtnman
Record: 3-0-0-0
Earnings: $322
Jockey: G Kernutt
Odds: 30/1

Well at 30/1 this one hasn’t been that fast even though he is Fast Freddie I know.  Out of Congrressionalhonor x Orbit Dancer x John Alden has run 3 races, first up on turf where he didnt really produce anything.  Since then he has run on dirt but they were both off tracks so its hard to see what he can produce here on the fast dirt track.  Speeds of only 55 and 57 on those two races.  Maiden of course so is up against it but could be a dark horse runner here.  Great odds if he does challenge.

7 INUIT LEGEND(WV)

Owner: lamepony
Record: 6-3-3-0
Earnings: $68,810
Jockey: J White
Odds: 5/2

This is the favourite of the race and she is a filly from Limit Out x Eskimo x Believe It and based on the history of the race well who knows!  Run exclusively on the dirt has 3 wins from 6 outings.  Last two runs were both wins with speeds of 76 and 77 in Allowance company.  Likes to lead and is a real chance here.  Has to beat the colt in Roar Justice though but is very consistent on her speeds and run.  Should be up there at  the end and a place finish I think.  Or can she repeat history and beat the boys here?

8 RAPID KIWI(AUS)

Owner: kiwihawkz
Record: 5-0-0-2
Earnings: $10,116
Jockey: T Verdin
Odds: 12/1

The only Aussie bred runner here, this colt is from Rapid Man(AUS) x Restless Native x Pago Pago(AUS). Hasn’t won yet has run 2 races on the turf with no success.  Last three races have all been on dirt where he has posted better speeds and two third place finishes.  6 furlongs looks like his limit in distance as he was fading last time out over 7 furlongs.  Will have to run well past his career best yet to figure here.

9 PSYTEXX(KY)

Owner: planobrgn
Record: 3-0-1-1
Earnings: $13,737
Jockey: C Winter
Odds: 5/1

Another of the favoured runners on the tote is actually still a maiden but posting some decent speeds.  First up was over 6.5 furlongs on dirt with a speed of 65 and a fourth place finish and closing.  Next was over 8 furlongs in a maiden where he ran third and better speed of 72. Last time out was over 7 furlongs in the BBRS Colt Dirt where he finished strongly across the line in second place, speed of 75.  Could definitely be challenging here if he gets a good run. From Value Plus x Tracker x Cormorant.  Worth considering.

10 OUTCOME(SAF)

OWner: dragnil
Record: 4-0-1-0
Earnings: $9,325
Jockey: J Jacobson
Odds: 17/1

One of the longer odds is from Muhtafal x Elliodor(FR) x Averof(GB). Best finish to date was in August where he ran debut on dirt a speed of 72 over 5 furlongs and finished second across the line after leading at the third call.  Next race was a failure really and last time out was in October over 4.5 furlongs, speed of 72 and fourth across the line.  Looks better suited to 6 furlongs or less and I think will find it hard going over 7 furlongs today particularly up against some of the more classier runners.

11 THIRD TIME A CHARM(LA)

Owner: lgbost5a
Record: 0-0-0-0
Earnings: $0
Jockey: S Munoz
Odds: 17/1

This girl is from Eugene’s Third Son x He’s a Tough Cat x Niniski.  Unraced and 17/1 odds on the tote.  Sire has not produced anything to talk about and thats about all there is to go on.  Hard to see her challenging but like I said is completely unproven.  Big debut for her here.

12 LONDON GUEST(SAF)

Owner: safimport
Record: 4-0-1-1
Earnings: $13,788
Jockey: F Rubley
Odds: 25/1

Maiden still has finished second and third across the line previously. Bred from London News(SAF) x Northern Guest x Model Man(SAF) is another filly trying to repeat history.  Didnt perform initially on turf and since running on dirt has got some better results over 4.5 furlongs in a third place finish then a second place over 6.5 furlongs and a speed of 66.  Last time out was over 6.5 furlongs again with a speed of 63 but finished in 9th place.  Long odds and probably hard to see challenging here.

13 CARBON LEADER(SAF)

Owner: scorpion
Record: 4-1-0-0
Earnings: $31,000
Jockey: C Clair
Odds: 16/1

From Kahal(GB) x Crystal De Roche(FR) x Circle Home ran a fantastic speed of 45 on the turf first up.  Im joking about the fantastic!  Swapped to dirt and got her first win in her second debut on dirt with a speed of 67 over 6.5 furlongs in the BBRS MSW.  Couldn’t perform last time out over 7 furlongs in the BBRS Fily Dirt finishing a disappointing fifth and some 6 lengths behind the winner. Hard to see this one challenging either.

14 BELL’S OBERON(ENG)

Owner: db2
Record: 2-0-0-0
Earnings: $2,000
Jockey: K Tolliver
Odds: 20/1

Bred from Sleeping Indian(GB) x Kind Ivor(AUS) x Lord Avie.  Has 2 runs to date both on turf with speeds of 58 and 52.  Debuting now on dirt for new owner and trainer in db2 this one could do anything.  Untried on dirt – possibly for those of you who like a mystery bet worth backing at these odds.

15 FREE HAT(CAN)

Owner: planobrgn
Record: 1-0-0-0
Earnings: $0
Jockey: T McGriggs
Odds: 12/1

And so we come to the last runner who is bred from Arthur’s Ring x Santiago Peak x Silent Screen.  One run so far in his career which was over 7 furlongs in a maiden where he ran 6th across the line with a speed of 69.  It was a good run initially as he was leading early on – he just faded at the end.  And for that reason I would prefer to see him over 6 furlongs first where he may well have a chance. Will struggle here I think though.

And so folks we have these 15 runners here in this great race all vying for the money and the trophy of course.  Plenty of girls wanting to take this one out but I think in my mind the top three will be:

5 ROAR JUSTICE(TX)
7 INUIT LEGEND(WV)
9 PSYTEXX(KY)
