Dunn Dunn Marathon
Stakes – Purse $100,000
Restricted to 4 Year Old+ Fillies and Mares
13 furlongs on Dirt

Today we are at Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky for the running of the “Dunn Dunn Marathon”, a thirteen furlong race on the dirt for older fillies and mares. This race features a  field of fourteen with all but five coming from the ERC residency as they are using this as a prep for one of their final races of the year. This is a closely matched group,  so jockey tactics and racing luck will probably play important roles in determining the winner.

Here is a closer look at the field:

newfyclaims barn
l habib                                   23/1

Out of the newfyclaims barn is this four year old McKINZIE filly out of the Sim Mare FORTY CAL DASH. She comes in with two straight wins with the most recent being at an Allowance Race in Virginia where she took home the win and ran 97 speed and won by three lengths.  Her last nine starts have come at twelve furlongs or more and she has wins in eight of those. She should continue her success here but the ownership group is hoping for a bump in speed as they get ready for the “ERC Ho Ho Whoa”.

dunn2downs barn
s wild                                     13/1

Out of the dunn2downs barn is this four year old MENDELSSOHN filly out of the Sim Mare WORDS OF PROPHETS. She has finished in the money in just twelve of her twenty career starts but has hit the board in four of five since being claimed by her new barn in early March. She comes in off a third place finish at a twelve furlong  Allowance Race in Minnesota where she ran 106 speed and was beaten by FRINGILLA VIGO by a length and a quarter. She comes in well rested and should be in the mix as they head for home.

murton is dreaming
court1 barn
m liddleski                           6/1

Out of the court1 barn is this four year old scratch bred  ALWAYS DREAMING (x VINDICATION x SUMMER SQUALL) filly. She started the year by running in four straight Stakes Races where she had two wins, a third, and a tenth place finish. She ran career best 115 speed two back but followed that up with a 103 speed ninth place finish at the eight and a half furlong “G3 Bluegrass Cup Distaff”. She has never gone more than nine furlongs in any start so it will be interesting to see how she manages the thirteen furlong track.

#10

harrylanexp barn
f power                    29/1

Out of the harrylanexp barn is this four year year old STREET SENSE filly out of the Sim Mare SEATTLE PHAROAH. She has finished in the money in six of her nine career starts including four wins but has failed to find a spot on the board in her two starts this year. Two back she ran twelfth at the “Alone That Baby Dirt Mare Stayer” and last time out she was sixth at the “Gulch on the Gulch Dirt Mare Special”. She is making her first start since early May and should like the distance and may be a nice surprise pick as she competes out of the ten hole.

#7

lmarisb barn
l kraft                                    6/1

Out of the lmarisb barn is this six year old scratch bred MENDELSSOHN (x DEPUTY MINISTER x PIONEER OF THE NILE) mare. She has finished in the money in just sixteen of here twenty-nine career starts including six wins. She comes in off back to back third place finishes with the first being at an eleven furlong Allowance Race where she ran big 110 speed and the most recent coming at the twelve furlong “Wondergirl Elf Dirt Mare Stayer”. She should like the distance here and will be in the mix as they come down the stretch.

#5
gato de tizway
inmatedowns barn
h mccoy                                18/1

Out of the inmatedowns barn is this five year old TIZWAY mare out of the Sim Mare GATO DE AZUL. She was picked up by the ownership group at a $10,000 claimer in late July after winning eight straight races. Unfortunately her winning streak came to an end in her first start for the new barn when she ran 103 speed and finished second in a twelve furlong Allowance Race in India. She comes in well rested and should like the distance and has a good chance of finding a spot on the board.

#4

lukebarn
c capper                                12/1

Out of the lukebarn is this four year old DAREDEVIL filly out of the Sim Mare MAKING HELEN. She has finished in the money in twelve of her twenty starts and comes in off a win at an Allowance Race at this same track  when she ran 104 speed over a twelve furlong track. That was her fourth straight race at that distance and she has had great success and should like the distance and track here.

amir1653 barn
d esperado                          7/2

Out of the amir1653 barn is this five year old scratch bred DISTORTED HUMOUR (x AWESOME AGAIN x MEDAGLIA D’ORO) mare. She comes in off back to back 113 speed twelve furlong races where she finished third at the “G1 Equinics Regret” and most recently second at the “City Prospector Dirt Mare Stayer”. Her big speed numbers will be tough to beat and she will be amongst the leaders as they come down the stretch and has a good chance to bring home the win.

#12

dunnclaimers barn
a darling                               11/1

Out of the dunnclaimers barn is this five year old DIALED IN  mare out of the Sim Mare KUNIYUKI. She has finished in the money in all but two of her sixteen career starts and has found the winners circle nine times and is currently on a streak of four straight. Last time out she ran 105 speed at a thirteen furlong claiming race in Indiana and won by more than seven lengths against a field of eight. Her new ownership group hopes she has a bit more speed in her and that she will find a spot on the board here and represent the stable at the “ERC Ho Ho Whoa”.

#6

harylanlow7 barn
o brooks                               41/1

Out of the harrylanlow7 barn isthis four year old QUALITY scratch bred TAPIT
(x STREET CRY x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY) filly. She has raced just eight times in her career and comes in off a third place finish in a twelve furlong race in Ontario where she ran career best 102 speed. That was her third straight start at that distance and in the previous two she was victorious in both. She will face a competitive field here but she is definitely one to watch and could be posing in the winner’s circle when it is all said and done.

#11
gruelling bridle
amir1707 barn
m grunhard                         6/1

Out of the amir1707 barn is this four year old scratch bred KNICKS GO (x FORTY NINER x UNBRIDLED’S SONG) mare. She has finished in the money in eleven of her nineteen career starts including four wins. All four of her races this year have been Stakes races and have resulted in two fifth place finishes, a third, and one win. Two back she took home the “Dubai Prospector Dirt Mare Stayer” when she ran career best 111 speed and last time out she was fifth at the twelve furlong “Stonerum Encore Dirt Mare Stayer”. She will battle two stable mates here and the best will likely be chosen to run in the “ERC Ho Ho Whoa”.

#9
trigger oblivion
amir barn
p munoz                               8/1

Out of the amir barn is this six year old scratch bred DAWN APPROACH (x RAINBOW QUEST x NUREYEV) mare. She took home the sixteen furlong “ERC Ho Ho Whoa” last December when she ran 98 speed and beat GALILEO UNCHAINED by five lengths. Since then she has failed to hit the board in three Grade Stakes races and had a runner-up at the sixteen furlong “Rakidas Road Dirt Mare Memorial” where she ran 99 speed. She should compete here but her preference may be to go longer.

#3

r taylor                                  13/1

Out of the newfyclaims3 barn is this four year old CAL NATION filly out of the Sim Mare THE GODS AMBROSIA. She has finished in the money in seventeen of her twenty career starts including six wins. She is making her first Stakes start here and is also stretching it out to more than nine and a half furlongs for the first time. She comes in off an impressive 106 speed win at an Allowance Race in Pennsylvania that was run over a mile track. The ownership group is hoping that she will like the distance and that her speed numbers will play here. Might be a nice long shot pick as she competes out of the three hole.

k bowen                               17/1

Out of the monoploy9 barn is this five year old GIANT GIZMO mare out of the Sim Mare SCAT NINE. She has not finished in the money in any of her four starts this year with three of those being Stakes Races. Last time out she ran 98 speed at the twelve furlong “Metro Content Dirt Mare Stayer” and finished in sixth place a full eighteen lengths back of winner TACTLESS LLAMA. She comes in well rested and will look to find her stride here and hopefully find a spot on the board for the ownership group.
