G1, Breeder’s Bowl Distaff (fillies and mares)

This weekend there will be many exciting races on the card for the Breeders’ Bowl.  This always brings excitement to the game, and we get to see the owners bring out some of their finest horses.  This year is no exception as this year’s Breeders’ Bowl in California should be action packed.  One of the races we will see on the card is the Breeders’ Bowl Distaff which will be restricted to 3 year old and up fillies and mares only.  They will be traveling across the fast dirt at post time at the distance of 9 furlongs.  The race has drawn a field of fourteen horses of which all of them are prior G1 and G2 winners.  This race looks like we have a tight field, and it should be a hard-fought trip for these horses this Saturday afternoon.  The morning line odds have been posted and the post positions released.  Let us now take a preview of the fourteen horses that made the cut for this year’s G1, Breeders’ Bowl Distaff.

Making her way out first will be this 5 year old Chestnut Mare (DISTORTED HUMOR x SAINT BALLADO x BROAD BRUSH) who will be your morning line favorite at 5/1 odds.  She will be coming into this race with four straight stakes wins, three of them being graded.  In her most recent start, we would see here in New York where she would travel 9.5 furlongs in the G1, The Jockey Filly Cup.  This little rabbit likes to run up front and out of the gate she went and never looked backed with a gate to wire trip to pick up the win with a 112 speed rating.  Look for her to break quick again out of her inside gate when she heads over to her post draw to the cheers of an excited crowd.

Next, we have this 3 year old Chestnut Filly (JUSTIFY x BERNARDINI x STREET CRY) who would pick up the win last season in the G1, Movieland Starlet.  She has had one graded win since that start and that came this season in the G3, The Jersey Oaks.  In her most recent start, she would head out in Pennsylvania where she would go 8.5 furlongs in the G2, Cotton Handicap.  She would make a closing effort in her stretch run but crossed under the wire in third with a 108 speed rating.  I expect her to close late in this race when heads down the stretch representing The Mecca residency.

3RUN FOR LAUGHSKY4Frockriver5W Kewmwa15880%$1,743,540240.007/1

This is a 4 year old Chestnut Filly (GUN RUNNER x DISTORTED HUMOR x SEEKING THE GOLD) that last year as a 3 year old would get the win in the G1, the Jungle Runner.  Another horse that likes to run at or near the front and she would do that again in her most recent start here in California going 8.5 furlongs in the G1, The Bra Snap.  And snap the bra she did as he came out of the gate and immediately challenged to win the fight for the lead.  She went on to win this race by almost four strides with a 115 speed rating.  Look for her to challenge upfront early for the lead in this race when she heads out of the paddock representing the East-West Connection residency.

4STORM SWALLOWERKY4Fstormborn3O A Haack181067%$3,353,690192.0010/1

Here we have a 4 year old Light Grey Filly (TAPIT x STORM CAT x SADLER’S WELLS) who in her four most recent starts has picked up three G1 wins.  She would get the win in the G1, Orange Blossom and the G1, The Taffy Mile.  She was off the boards in the Equinics but would rebound back nicely in her most recent start in New York going 8.5 miles in the G1, Superfilly Handicap.  She would gain control around the third call and continue to lead this field to the wire where she picked up the win with a 117 speed rating.  She is another filly in this fields that may challenge for the lead out of the gate when she heads out to represent the GR Simsters residency.

5CANDY ON ICEKY4FmagicalF Gossett17976%$1,164,100120.008/1

Next, we have this Bay Filly (CANDY RIDE x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x FORTY NINER) that is a multiple G2 winner this season.  She would get the win in the G2, The Canada and then go winless until her most recent start in New York.  She would go 9 furlongs in the G2, The Glass Slipper Stakes.  She laid back in the early going but as the rounded the final stretch she would get a tap and ask for some extra effort.  She delivered and picked off horse to get up for the win by three and a half at the wire with a 114 speed rating.  Watch for her to be closing late this weekend as she heads for home representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

6MOVANTKY5Fhold4oldZ Ayya18644%$618,340132.0013/1

This is a 5 year old Brown Mare (LAOBAN x SUMMER SQUALL x VINDICATION) that would pick up the win earlier this season in the G1, Union Jack Flyer Stakes.  She would again strike with a win in the G3, The Rancho Renaldo.  In her most recent start, she would again start here in California going 8.5 furlongs in the G1, The Bra Strap.  She would have a rough trip this time on the track and would never be a factor as she crossed the wire well back in seventh.  She will need some extra effort this Saturday when she breaks from her gate to the cheers of an excited crowd.

7SHE’S DANGEROUSKY3Fgiven5Q Cassell11782%$1,984,655202.2526/1

We come to this 3 year old Chestnut Filly (CURLIN x DANZIG x MR. PROSPECTOR) that would pick up three big G1 wins earlier this season against her age group which included the G1, lool Oaks, the Bluegrass Derby and the Sister Hen Stakes.  She would go off the boards trying to go 10 furlongs and then she headed out in her most recent start here in California facing older as she went 8.5 furlongs in the G1, The Bra Strap.  She would again go off the boards in this start with a fifth place finish with a 108 speed rating.  There is no doubt that this horse has class, but can she find some extra against these older horses this Saturday when she heads over to her gate representing the GR Simsters residency.

Next, we have this 3 year old Brown Filly (CURLIN x VINDICATION x DYNAFORMER) that has picked up three G1 wins in a row.  She bested the field in the G1, The Royal Heiress Stakes and again in the Birmingham Stakes.  She would then head out for her most recent start in Hong Kong going 14 furlongs in the G1, Going Going Gone Stakes on a sloppy track.  She would again best this field by three lengths at the wire with a 105 speed rating.  She has been running at longer distances very well but will this drop down to 9 furlongs on Saturday still be in her wheelhouse when she heads out in the post parade representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

9CAFECITOKY5FtrooperV Casey22759%$753,205168.009/1

Here we have a 5 year old Brown Mare (CANDY RIDE x SMART STRIKE x HALO) that would pick up the win earlier this season in the G1, The Swapsco Kitty Stakes.  She also found a second place finish in the G2, The Post Oak Mile.  In her most recent start in New Jersey, she would go 8.5 furlongs in the G2, The Pitcher Molly.  She would make a gate to wire attempt here but would be caught down the stretch and cross the wire in second with a 111 speed rating.  I do not see that she has gone the distance of 9 furlongs before in her career which worries me when she heads out of the paddock representing the Empire State Racing residency.

10GRAND POTENZAKY4Fxpansion95E Bernstein18778%$977,589164.008/1

Now we have this 4 year old Brown Filly (MEDAGLIA D’ORO x A.P. INDY x STREET CRY) that has picked up multiple G2 wins this season in The Encino Man and The Golfer’s Wager.  In her most recent start, she would be seen in New Jersey going 8.5 furlongs in the G2, The Pitcher Molly.  This late closer would charge down the stretch picking off horses and get up for the win with a 113 speed rating.  She likes to turn on the pressure after the third call.  Look for her late it the game when he comes out to represent the Midas residency.

11ACORNSJPN5FnocalbredF Oxon25964%$990,174106.139/1

Coming out next we have this 5 year old Bay Mare (NADAL x TIZNOW x MR. PROSPECTOR) that has a couple of graded wins this season in the G2, D-Day Distaff and in the G1, Spin it to Win it Stakes.  In her best efforts she likes to run at or near the front but in her most recent start in New York she would find a bit of trouble.  She would go 9 furlongs in the G1, The Great Dame where she found a spot in third out of the gate and would never move forward.  She would lose some ground down the final stretch and cross the wire in eighth with a 107 speed rating.  She needs to improve on that effort this weekend to challenge when she heads out at post time representing the GR Simsters residency.

12A SIMPLE SOLUTIONKY4Fasrstar13J Wilson16662%$1,559,605128.0310/1

This is a 4 year old Light Grey Filly (MEDAGLIA D’ORO x TAPIT x SEEKING THE GOLD) who had been running on the turf but made the transition over to the dirt track back in April of this season and she took to that very well.  She would get up for the win in the G1, The Nutty Squirrel Stakes.  She would then follow that up with an Equinics Champion win in The Genuine Risk.  She then came her most recent start in New York going 10 furlongs in the G1, The Personal Sign.  She would find difficulty in this race crossing the wire off the boards in eighth with a 108 speed rating.  This horse has proven to be a top contender in some very big races in the past and we need to see a big rebounding effort after her most recent start when she heads over to her post representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

13WAR LIKE GHOSTSKY4FmigD Givins131092%$1,100,310128.008/1

Here we have a 4 year old Bay Filly (WAR FRONT x GHOSTZAPPER x UNBRIDLED) that has picked up three graded wins this season.  She would get the win in the G3, Cubic Zirconia Path Stakes and another win in the G2, What’s Happening.  In her most recent start, she would hit the jackpot when she headed out in New York going 9 furlongs in the G1, The Great Dame.  She would get a good break out of the gate and grab the lead and never look back as she went gate to wire to get the win with a 116 speed rating.  She is another horse in this field that should be challenging for the early lead when she breaks from her gate representing The Mecca residency.

14BALTIC RIGA MOONKY5Furcdragons1R Williams21871%$1,017,854115.008/1

Rounding out this field and breaking from the far gate will be this 5 year old Bay Mare (MALIBU MOON x STORM CAT x BROAD BRUSH) that has one graded win this season and that came back in March in the G3, Dietydirtydishragyou Stakes.  She was also third in the G1, Union Jack Flyer Stakes and second in the Equinics-Mandaloun Cheaters Get Banned Stakes.  Her two most recent starts were off the boards including her most recent start in Kentucky going 9 furlongs in the G1, Three Smokestacks Stakes.  She would try to close down the stretch and gain a few spots but would cross over in sixth with a 104 speed rating.  This horse has shown she can run and win and that is the kind of effort we need to see this weekend when she breaks from her gate representing the European Union Racing Organization residency.

Good luck to all owners and horses!

Skippy’s Watch List

1-Oh My Soul: Coming off four straight wins.  Can she make it five?

5-Candy On Ice: Nice G2 last time. Can she find her first G1 on Saturday?

13-War Like Ghost: Consistent speeds. Can she gate to wire this one?

Tarton’s Long Shot

8-Pictures Crazy:  This is a three year old that has never run against the older horses in any of her prior starts.  She has been running some longer races in her most recent trips to the track so there would be a concern in both her stepping up in age group and backing down in distance for this race.  But with three G1 wins in a row coming into Saturdays start and her morning line odds at 44/1 I feel I have to think about a place for her on some exotic tickets.  Let’s see what she can do and if she can step up and prove a contender and give her a little love at the betting windows.

This is extremely inappropriate and not appreciated. Post your dumb ass YouTube videos elsewhere in the future.

I respectfully disagree. Bob posted a video of the song O My Soul which is the name of the horse you pick first. He obviously intended no harm.
