Less Horses – Less Buyers = Less Sold
Less Horses – Less Buyers = Less Sold
Auction 3763 – What a difference a week can make, as the auction sales plummet. I don’t know if it was due to the economy, the election or people thinking ahead to the coming holidays. Only four horses sold for over a million dollars and two of those went home on the same van they came in on. Most of the 27 senior citizens of the horse world were not lucky enough to find a new home. Of the four who sold for more than a dollar, hip number 34736, a 9 YO named Golden Globes sold for the most money. Mrprospect consigned this old warrior and the lightly raced winner of four might find himself in The Old Man Of The Mountain series next January running in the silks of Celtshumor. Okay, enough of the speculating – here are the auction stats for week 3763.

The Millionaires:
Out of a top mare, the sale topper designation went to Once a Fan, a sturdy 3 YO bay colt by Good Reward. Selling as hip number 5367 Once a Fan has four wins from 19 starts and was stake’s placed as a late 2YO and early 3 YO. He is the first foal of the “A” rated daughter of AP Indy, Xtremely A Fan who won 11 races including six graded stakes. Soundness issues have seen this colt start to slide and he comes to his new owner, Caliracing, with a low claiming tag of $5,000. Caliracing paid consignor Dlkhstables $2,524,122.00 and hopes that with some TLC, Once a Fan returns to a better form.
Hip number 42920, D’Labyrinth was consigned by Fes977. A handsome, big-boned dark bay colt by Supremo, D’Labyrinth is still a maiden. He is out of Blistering Pace (Romanov) who won two of her 31 starts and this is her only foal to race. Rockriver2 liked the way this colt looked and the improving speed figures and thought he was worth taking a chance at a cost of $1,312,413. The thing the new owner was most excited about was the fact that this colt has never tried the grass and may really improve on lawn.
The Auction Seen:
The wind was blowing but the rain seemed to have passed as I arrived at the sale barn. I had told management that I wanted my table back, the one on the mezzanine level by the fireplace, and they had it all set up with a nice basket of fruit. It wasn’t cold enough for a fire but it won’t be long. As I blew in the door 18steps immediately hailed me and told me about Winter getting a contract. As one of our favorite BTB writers I was very happy for her and will send her a note later today.
There was a great group in the corner and it looked like they were having a meeting of some sort. I wandered over because they all looked my age. Arp2315 and Hillhouse were holding court and in attendance were Oldones, Gettingold, and Oldcrow. I fit right in and visited for a while until talk turned to health related matters. I have enough of those all by myself and don’t really need to hear about others. Besides, I was working.
I stopped by the bar to get my Pepsi and noticed Fatbob was telling funny stories to Abbeygirl of auction sales and buys. I wandered over to my table and found Snowchief there with a tableful of notes and editor type stuff. She was visiting with Kirby to our left. As usual he was with a group of very pretty girls including Shelly, Puffqueen and Duchess. The table to our right was occupied by Halfbaked, Bums and Lazygray. They are a lot of fun and we all had a good time sharing the centerpiece. Several people stopped by to say hello including Geegee, Hops and Pegasus. Waywardlad stopped buy to announce he was selling off a bunch which got Selfstart looking in the catalog in case there was anything of interest. Quietjohn walked by with Onalark and headed back towards the food court and maybe a game of pool.
All in all it was a great afternoon and we watched some nice horses sell and then it was off to the races to watch some nice horse’s race. So, until next week – Good Luck with all your auction purchases.
