Grade II- Gowader Stakes

Grade II- Gowader Stakes

A full field of 14 is set to lineup for the Grade II Gowader Stakes which is being run in Idaho at the distance of a mile. This will be one of the last chances for the 3 yr old fillies to battle it out amongst themselves before they are forced to face the older ladies. Here is your field:

1. Kotton Candy – 375stud stables bring us this beautiful Cryptoclearance filly that has ten career races under her belt and a beautiful A.P. Indy X Nureyev backend. She has already earned over 500k in her lifetime and her last two races have been massive efforts at 10 furlongs where she has posted speed figures of 108 and 106 respectively (both 2nd place efforts). I imagine her connections settled for this race after not being able to get into the Distaff as I’d prefer to see this gal go longer than today’s mile distance. I suspect this filly is in store for a monster 4 yr old campaign but I will seek others due to a hunch she prefers longer than a mile.

2. Arseoholic – SDMF presents us with this scratch bred Gone West X Northern Dancer X Seattle Slew who is as consistent as it gets finishing in the money in 14 of 18 lifetime races. The biggest win of her career came back in June in the Cool Horn Memorial Open Stakes race at 9f where she posted a 98 speed figure. Arseoholic is the type of consistent horse that players love for bps production but her speed figure progression is not up to par to back her for anything more than a secondary share in today’s race but she is a  must consider for the exotics

3. Justify – Another entry from Delpenner SDMF this Distorted Humor filly is nearly as consistent as her stable mate but has banked over 650k in her account as well. Her biggest win came as a 2 yr old when she romped in the Delpenn Juvenile fillies race by 3 ¾ lengths. She’s not as fast as the best of the 3 yr old filly’s crop but if she gets loose on the front end she has the ability to take it to the house.

4. Auror Derby – By sire Gone West, who is well represented in today’s race, Auror Derby has shown versatility by winning nicely on both surfaces in open stakes company. Her fastest lifetime speed figure was a 105 two back in the G2 Roberto Clemente Handicap where she finished a solid third. Her last 5 races have been on the grass so if she gets a nice turf to dirt benefit she could reward her backers. At odds of 20-1 odds makers are giving her little chance of a soft pace scenario that would aid her chances.

5. Dreamy Cat – Blue grass Cat filly has 880k in lifetime earnings and seems to really be finding her 3 yr old running form as of late as she has posted 4 straight races of speed figures breaking the century mark. She has finished in the show spot in her last two graded tries both at 8.5 furlongs and she should be doing her best running as other horses are starting to grasp for air. She is due for a big score as a three year old but will today be the day?

6. Enforcer – Lightly raced Exchange Rate (Danzig) filly ran a monster last out in just her 8th lifetime race when she nearly wired the field of the G2 Cotton Handicap and posted a 105 speed figure in the process.  She appears to have the most raw natural ability of any of the frontrunners in this race but will likely not find an easy lead in today’s race. If her speed figure improvement continues it may not matter too much and do not be shocked to see her getting her picture snapped at very fair odds of 12-1.

7. Sisson’s Mark – This Mark of Esteem (by Darshaan) filly has won some truly monster races including the G1 Lool Oaks, G1 Smackdown Mile, and the G1 Cecil Roo Classic two back where she posted a MONSTEREQUE 110 speed figure by romping the field by 3 ¼ lengths. She has earned over 1.4 MILLION dollars and also has the running style to win the day once again today. Trainer binzaman prepped her in a cheap allowance last out and although she did not win she should be sitting on a monster effort in today’s race.

8. Legendary Day – Trainer Cooolk has had this lady knocking in the allowance ranks all season and she has won 3 in a row and 4 of her last 5 but she is taking a huge jump in class for today’s race. Her lifetime best 107 speed figure two back put her in the right neighborhood but that was earned in allowance company and since she has not ever faired well in stakes company (going back to her 2 yr old campaign) I will seek others.

9. Schitzngiggle – Her breeding has the same sire and DS as Arseoholic but her name is really what sets her apart. I absolutely love it and give her the award for best named filly in this race. She has won 1/3 of her career races (5 for 15) and most notably posted a monstrous 114 speed figure when she won an open stakes at a mile two back. She has the looks of a need to lead type and although her 114 puts her in elite company that is going be real tough feat to pull off in today’s race.

10. PJ WAY TO STARS – Johar filly is your 39-1 longshot of the race and even that seems a bit light considering she has never broken a 95 speed figure in 13 lifetime races. Has been a real nice bps producer for flyingfinn but tough to see her fitting in here.

11. Mind Eraser – From game dam Alluring Charm (Lure X Summer Squall) this throws out occasional monster efforts like her 110 2nd place finish in the G2 Fast Feline Stakes two back and her 107 G1 win in the Hypnotic Explosion five back. If she runs a race like either of those two she very easily could be your winner but her card seems to indicate she prefers longer than today’s distance. That being said she will likely be coming fastest of all at the very end if she runs her race so offers some intrigue at 10-1.

12. Orogeny – Trainer fastnfirm has wisely managed this fillies career and it is paying big dividends in the bps department. She has earned her stripes in allowances and open stakes and although this is a tough field to ask for a graded breakthrough this Mountain Cat filly has the type of foundation that serves her well for this race.

13. Esprit de Corps – Encosta De Lago filly has won half of her lifetime 12 races and has finished ITM in 10 of them. Yet another frontrunner a quick check of her form shows she leads in nearly every race she runs in which is bad news for those fillies hoping for a nice soft pace in today’s race. Her last race was a monstrous 110 effort and she seems to be getting better every race. She just missed graded glory this July in the 7 furlong Exam Stakes and has more then earned another try here.

14. Graupoint – Oddsmakers have made her the 4-1 favorite despite drawing the far outside post. That might have something to do with the 113 speed figure she posted last out when she won the G3 County BB Handicap by 2 ¼ lengths on 10/4. She has the type of stalker profile that looks ideal for today’s race and has shown the ability to pull together multiple big efforts back to back. Point Given filly has run 6 lifetime speed figures over 100 including some monster efforts and is a legitimate favorite today.

Prediction: I would like to start by saying that this is an absolute monster field for this Grade 2 event these fillies must have heard they were giving away oats or potatoes in Idaho this week. I suspect many owners were hoping their fillies might slide into the Distaff and opted for this Graded alternative when that was not a possibility. The pace scenario is likely to be fast a furious and predicting which frontrunner makes the lead is not an easy proposition. All of this should benefit Graupoint who has the ability to both stalk the early speed and make first run on the late movers and I think that will be good enough to hold off the late movers. Sisson’s Mark, Mind Eraser, and Dreamy Cat are the other alternatives I like to round out the exotics so bet on those on the bottom of exactas with Graupoint.
