SORGATANI (KY) EMPIRE MAKER x WOODMAN x PLEASANT COLONY
This filly is improving with age. Her runs this year have shown good speed figures although some of that is down to the increased sim speed figures. She is also well treated in that 9.5f is her best trip, she won well over this trip last time out. Her two graded runs were over 9f which the she found a little short but was running on well. She has at least prospects of getting a place in this race.
RED HOT AND ROCKIN (KY) UNBRIDLED’S SONG x TABASCO CAT x HALO
This mare is on her third trainer. Her current connections have down very well with her. She is another mare who has done very well this year with some impressive speed figures. She is graded placed which is a bonus. The main downside is the mare looks best at 8.5f she has never run at 9.5f but her 10f runs do not give much confidence that the trip will suit. I think she will struggle here due to stamina limitations.
MIHARKULA (KY) A.P. INDY x NORTHERN DANCER x MR. PROSPECTOR
This mare has been running well all season. She has been placed over a wide range of distances in stakes races. Looking at her race profile she has never actually won a stakes race. She has had many chances though and it would appear that although a consistent at the level lacks the class to win. It is therefore very hard to see her being good enough to take a graded race.
MASTER AND COMMAND (IRE) MONTJEU (IRE) x SPINNING WORLD x MR. PROSPECTOR
This filly has been top class the fact she has earning over $1.4m tells us this. She is a multiple graded winner s well. She is still running well winning allowances her class carrying her through. As would be expected though a horse with 50 races on the clock she tends to struggle when put back in graded company. I see no reason why she will not come up short again. In allowance races she can continue to rack up the breeding points though.
COX’S STAGE QUIET AMERICAN x COX’S RIDGE x STAGE DOOR JOHNNY
This mare is a hard horse to work out. She has won from 6.5f to 16f that is a very wide range for a sim horse. She seems adept at most trips as well though. Her stakes win was at 10.5f is a short field. I believe though she is a 10-10.5f furlong horse. The balance of her form also suggests she will come up short and find the trip sharp so is passed over for selection.
REPENTANCE (KY) PULPIT x EL GRAN SENOR x NASHUA
This mare has been beaten in two claims in her last 5 runs. On the positive note she has won two starter allowances. The mare has yet to break the triple digit speed mark in her life. If she is to win this race that is something she has to do. Her three stakes runs have been poor mind she has never been last at best I think she should hope to keep that streak going. Her chances of winning are about the same as Vladimir Putin of winning the noble peace prize this year.
DESECRATION SMILE (KY) UNBRIDLED’S SONG x A.P. INDY x BOLD BIDDER
This is a very nice mare she has also been running well this year. She has won and been placed in graded races in 2008. Her speed figures are impressive as well. She has only failed once to hit the 100+ speed figure on her last eight starts. The problem is this form is over 8 -8.5f looking back she has never run this far. The evidence of her 9f runs suggests she is better shorter. Although a very good horse over this trip I believe her chances are slim.
BULLETS TO SPARE (KY) GONE WEST x NIJINSKY II x BLUSHING GROOM (FR)
This filly has only had eleven runs. She has yet to run over 8.5f mind she has won at that trip. She has recently tried the turf as well. It is obvious the owner is still trying to figure her out. She has ability and is probably better than her bare form. The question being asked is will this trip bring out the improvement. I would not say no but if you were betting with real money you would have to pass her over.
In conclusion this is not the strongest of graded races. Several of the horses are running over the wrong trip I guess hoping they can get away with it in a soft field, not the dumbest thing in the world to do.
It appears the race is set up for Sorgatani to take the spoils. The places look wide open with so many question marks over the rest. I will take a flyer and pick Bullets To Spare to come second over this longer trip with Master and Command taking third her class carrying her through even in old age.
