PP # 1 Xtra Smart (KY) @ 14-1

Trained by: Ejdstable

Ridden by: S. Munoz

Xtra Smart is a four year old Grade Winning daughter of Smart Strike, out of a Kris S. mare. She’s set to make her first stakes try against the boys, but she has been training exceptionally. Her last race was the Grade 1 Demona Handicap in which Xtra Smart was hung in traffic and never able to make her closing move. Two races back however she was closing and ran out of track to miss by a head in the Grade 1 Black Gold. She prefers to make his move coming around the turn for home, so look for Munoz to have her sitting towards the back and out of traffic on the final turn ready to pounce on the leaders.

PP # 2 Spice (GER) @ 4-1

Trained by: Lalakers8

Ridden by: D. Schad

Spice is a five year old Stakes winning and Graded Placed son of German sire Sumitas, out of a Tabasco Cat mare. Lalakers8 claimed him for $15,000 just over two years ago. Since the claim Spice has taken to the new stable and shown that he’s a top horse. He has been in the money in 17 of his 20 turf races. His last race was an eight furlong stakes in which he ran a career matching high 109 speed figure. This year he’s ran a 108 in two 9.5 furlong races, showing that the added furlong should be to his liking. Every race this year has been over 104 figures and looks to be tough with his solid form. His best raced come from stalking the pace closely, but he can take over and lead if the lead horse tries to get a soft lead.

PP # 3 Maverick @ 5/2

Trained by: Desperado2

Ridden by: J. White

Maverick is a Grade winning five year old son of Gone West, out of Graded winning mare A.P. Magic by Forty Niner. His last race he won the Grade III Capital’s Major Price at 9.5 furlongs with an impressive 114 speed figure. Two races back he was closing and didn’t make it to the front in time, to run third in The Smackdown. His average speed figure this year is just over 108 and his last race at this distance was an eye opening 111. Look for this legit favorite to be tracking the pace.

PP # 4 George W. Loser @ 99-1

Trained by: Monimonica

Ridden by: P. Graham

Miss Lewinsky entered this horse to get the free breeder points. His only start this year that wasn’t a stakes was a last place finish in a *15 allowance race. Top speed this year was a 60 and that looked to be a freak occurrence. I understand the argument of entering a horse that has no shot to win, and if that’s your bag, so be it, but this is ridiculous. At least enter a horse that can hit 80’s or 90’s.

PP # 5 Otto Oh No @ 8-1

Trained by Freeky

Ridden by: O. Sturman

Otto Oh No is a Graded winning five year old son of Mineshaft, out of an Irish River mare. In his last allowance prep he easily won over nice furlongs on the yielding turf course. He also had a dirt prep before that in which he ran a 103 over 9.5 furlongs. Freeky has been able to keep his dry turf form sharp, with only one firm turf race under a triple digit speed. He likes to make his move late, so look for him to conserve energy and be ready to run coming down the stretch.

PP # 6 Skidded (KY) @ 15-1

Trained by Rose

Ridden by: C. Winter

Skidded is a three year old Graded winning son of Awesome Again, out of the Graded winning mare Sadfly’s Dubai. This steadily improving three year old colt looks to make his first start against older horses. His last race was the Grade II Upper California Derby at 9.5 furlongs, where he was closing hard down the stretch and ran a 102 speed figure. Back in June he won the Grade II Bean Sprout Turf Cup at 8.5 furlongs with a 104. This colt’s last two races prove he’s on par to compete in this field, but we’ll have to see if he can handle the tougher pace. Regardless, this will be an outstanding four year old, so look for his name in the prestigious races next year.

PP # 7 Blushing Brad (GER) @ 7-1

Trained by Aintree

Ridden by: M. Peters

Blushing Brad is a four year old Stakes winning son of the Swedish sire Songline, out of a Blushing Groom mare. He has truly developed into a great horse this year. His last out was a Stakes score over this distance, running a 106 speed figure. His last five races over firm turf have all been in the triple digits ranging from 9 – 11 furlongs. He is a versatile horse that can be the speed horse, but his best races come when he is able to sit right off the pace. Look for Peters to make the call on where he’ll be sitting based on how the pace plays out.

PP # 8 Another Tenpin Tap @ 6-1

Trained by Tenpin6

Ridden by: B. Roberts

Another Tenpin Tap is a five year old Grade winning son of Seeking the Gold, out of a Nijinski II mare. In his last race it just wasn’t his day. Another Tenpin Tap is going for the 2 million mark today, he’s just over $7,000 away from this huge milestone. Tenpin6 may be trying to use this shorter race to freshen Tap up, but was unavailable for comment. This will be his first race at 9 furlongs or shorter since March of 2007, but don’t count this top horse out. Two races back he had a stakes win with a 114 speed figure.

PP # 9 Big Day @ 6-1

Trained by Nobiz

Ridden by: T. Mc Griggs

Big Day is a Stakes winning five year old son of Dayjur, out of an Awesome Again mare. Claiming legend Mtk claimed this horse for Nobiz last November for a mere $15,000, and has since turned it into a top horse. After two races on dirt he decided to make the switch to turf, which this horse was calling for. In the equinics Big Day never got rolling, he just seemed to be a little under the weather that day. Two races back was a Stakes win at 9.5 furlongs with an impressive 115 speed figure. His average speed figure over 9 furlongs is 104.3 with a 109 in May. Look for Big Day to take the early lead and try to take it gate to wire.

PP # 10 Kaleidescope Eyes (KY) @ 9/2

Trained by Derbybound

Ridden by: Ti. Matthews

Kaleidescope Eyes is a four year old Graded winning son of Mineshaft, out of Stakes winner Gringotts. This colt has been very consistent running triple digit speed figures in all of his races this year. His last race was at 8.5 furlongs running a 103. Two races back he was closing and just missed in the Grade I Eddie O Cap with a 102 speed figure. He hit 114 earlier in the year at 8.5 furlongs. Don’t be surprised to see him at the back of the pack down the backstretch, because he truly likes to close from deep.

My Picks 3 – 9 – 10
