The Their Rattles Cap
Six horses will face off against each other in The THEIR RATTLES Cap, run on fast dirt at a mile and a quarter for a purse of $50,000. 1 (5/2) – THOROUGHFARE (KY) has the distinction of running the highest speed figure in the field – a 112, from his victory in The OUT ON THE DANCE Cap. Although not all his races are this impressive, he has consistently hit the board in listed stakes races. Interestingly enough, however, every other horse has won more races than the favorite – partially due to the fact that THOROUGHFARE has faced graded competition. A decent effort should put him on the board. 2 (7/1) – MIDNITE MOON (KY) is the least experienced horse in the race, with just twelve races under his belt. This Sky Mesa three-year-old did well if not brilliantly up until June, when his owner/trainer Super1 of the formidable More Evil Than The Evil Empire! Stables tried him in a ten furlong race, a distance he seems to relish. In his three starts at this distance, MIDNITE MOON has won two races and then finished a good seventh against tough competition in the $500,000 Del Penn Travers Stakes. The ten furlong THEIR RATTLES Cap should prove a far more attainable prize than the Del Penn Travers, and at 7/1, MIDNITE MOON looks like a good value. 3 (2/1) – GHOSTLY DEBUT (KY) looks to be THOROUGHFARE’s main competition. On his best day he can run a speed figure right around 105, and he certainly knows how to win – something he’s done ten times in twenty-six starts. THOROUGHFARE, by contrast, has only three wins in twenty starts. One could make a case to say that GHOSTLY DEBUT should be the favorite here. He’ll certainly be in the mix. 4 (7/2) – QUICK TO FIGHT (KY), a Touch Gold four-year-old, comes from the barn of Driver1000 from Six String Stables. Look down his past performance list and you will see an impressive number of ones. In thirty-one starts, he’s come in first ten times, and when he doesn’t win, he often comes in second or third. It’s hard to argue with such a nice record, but if there’s one knock on him it’s that he’s not quite as speedy as favorite THOROUGHFARE or second-choice GHOSTLY DEBUT. He put up some nice numbers this May – a 103 and a 105 – which would certainly make him a contender, but more recently he’s been hovering right around the 100 benchmark. 5 (7/2) – AWESOME SAKHIANO (KY) had a rather rough race – by his standards, anyway – in his last start, running just an 87. Earlier in the summer he’d put together a nice string of efforts, running in the mid-100s four times in a row and finishing third in The SAHM’S GENERAL Cap. He followed those races up with an allowance win. If AWESOME SAKHIANO can run to that level again, he’ll certainly be a contender. 6 (8/1) – BLOODY AGAIN is the longest shot on the board and, at six years old, is the oldest horse in the race. Owner/trainer Tbreds2002 started bringing this Red Bullet colt back from a 2 1/2 year layoff in August, and he’s performed quite well in both starts since then, running speed figures in the mid-90s. A modest improvement Saturday could make him competitive.
