Sim Magic – Perfect Claiming
Sim Magic – Perfect Claiming
Most of us trainers in the sim are looking for that great stakes horse or the great 2yo, that you bred yourself, however for most sim trainers and owners 90% of the races are dictated by claiming races. And the best way to breed a great 2yo is via claiming. Why? It’s obviuos with the game structure BP(breeding Points) are what we all aim for, and you can earn the most BP in Claiming races. There are two very important modifiers when claiming horses:
All Races :
1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | |
First Race with a horse (includes maiden homebreds as well as auction purchases, claimers, and new stables) | 100% Bonus | 75% Bonus | 50% Bonus |
Non-CPU Value Claim Races Only:
1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | |
Finished top 3 in previous race w/you as owner, finishes in top 3 again | 33% Bonus | 25% Bonus | 10% Bonus |
Then there are certain factors, that apply for claiming races about moving up in claiming tag, those I want to look at later, the most important factor is the first, the first race after buying, breeding or claiming a horse, the whooping figure are the 100%. What does that mean, the max you can get for your first race is 50 BP, 20 Bp for the win, 5 BP for winning back at the same track, and then the 100% modifier. Bang, 50 BP with one race, let’s say you claimed the horse for 5000$, which costs 10 BP, and then re-run it for 5000$, even if it gets claimed you still make a gain of 40 BP overall with just one claim in one race. Thats why for most horses I claim, I mainly care about winning first time out, not looking to step it up in class that much, if your lucky you get the win and keep it, if your not, you still gain the BP via the win and a free spot. For this tactic I suggest claiming at 5000$ and less only, claiming for higher tags you have a higher interest in keeping the horse. As here comes modifier No. 2, you want to finish in the Top 3 again, imagine you get to run at the same track again, and win, so you get a basic 25 BP + 33% bonus, thats 9 more points, good to go, 34 BP in the second race. And you can keep scoring on like that, as long as the horse is not claimed. So the idea of claiming is to keep the horse at nearly the same tag and keep finishing in the Top 3 to get bonus modifiers.
The good thing about staying in the Top 3 os another modifier, cause
Horse is in a claim race, finished in top 3 in it’s last race with you as owner and finishes in top 3 again:
Bonus : = Int(Races Run / 5)
And here is the mathematic coming in the Int level, well no confusion here, all it does is simply round it to a whole number like:
So say you have a value that is
PercRight = 89.285728
but you want to show a simple “89%” to your end user. You would say
PercRight = Int(PercRight)
response.write PercRight & “%”
and that would chop it down to just the 89 part of the number
So if you have a horse that has run 50 races it gets 10 BP bonus, as 50/5 = 10, so your goal is to keep that horse scoring in the Top 3 back to back, and it encourages running older horses, as the more races a horse has, the more it will score here. Now imagine that horse won, back at the same track, makes it 25 BP, he ran 2nd for you the race before, so here is 10 more BP, that makes it 35BP, now you add the 33% modifier we saw earlier here is a claimer win for 46 BP, isn’t that great.
More bonuses are there for moving a horse up in the claiming values:
Horse was in a claim it’s last race and stays in claims, stays in for same claiming price or moves up less than $5000 and finishes in top 3 :
Bonus : = INT(CLAIM PRICE * (.00006 – Finish*.00001)
Horse was in a claim it’s last race and stays in claims, moves up in claiming price $5000+ and finishes in top 5 :
Bonus : = INT(CLAIM PRICE * (.00011 – Finish*.00001)
Let’s keep it real basic here, grab your calculator and calculate it through, the basic deal is, if you can move it up for lets say 7500, you’l earn a nice bonus again, let me put it through for a 5000$ horse moving up to 15000$, so the claiming price would be 15000, you have 00011 – 0.00001, if you finish first, that makes it 15000* .00010, well, thats 1 BP, ok so you see the effect is rather minimal, but imagine it was a 100000$ claimer, ah, we get a 10 BP bonus, heh, that sounds nice, so moving from 75000 to 100000 can be very valuable , if you have a great horse. For most small claimers it’s not that interesting.
Now let’s take a look at some real life example, for me it’s always a target to bid for succesful claimers, as the 5BP bonus for running at the same track really makes the modifiers even more valuable.

This horse really didn’t earn many BP his first three races, but well I kept bidding, and in his 4th race he rewarded me, your guess, how many BP did he earn?
24 BP, let me explain, he finished 2nd, thats 15, he ran at the same track, so 4 BP+ thats 19, now he didn’t finish in the Top 3 before, so no bonus here, however he finsihed in Top 5, and moved up 10000$ plus in claim value, hah yeah really, so INT(60000*(.00009)), thats 5 more BP.
Ok,
Perhaps something easier:

How much do you think she earned in her last race?
Answer: 33 BP, 15 BP for 2nd, 4 BP for back at same track, now those other modifiers come, he finished in Top 3 again, so INT(38/5) is in place, thats 7 more BP, totaling 26 BP, now we get a bonus for staying in same class and finishing 3rd thats INT(25000*.00004), well 1BP, we are now at 27 BP, and here comes the final modifier, cause I finished in Top 3 for same owner again, thats 25%, another 6BP, here we are at 33 BP, you think thats complicated? Perhaps yes, but it’s worth thinking of all modifiers, when entering claiming races.
Let me give you a simple example:
http://www.simulatedsports.net/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=153534
Don’t look at the last race, the one I want to look at is the first after claiming her, 06/28/08,
I guess it’s easy to calculate the number, yep, a perfect 50 BP for the first race, won back at the same track, with the 100% win modifier for the first race, and thats what you should always look for, if you have the credits go bid for the first race of a horse always, it will be worth it all the time, as you can simply modify credits into BP. If you ask, why should I bid 25 credits , aren’t they worth the same as BP, my answer is no, you can only breed a horse once per week with credits, with BP, each horse is there twice as a 2yo, a damsire, a dam-dam’s sire and once as a 3yo, thats 7 chances to scratch breed with BP, so I’d always rather transform my credits into BP.
Thats it for this week, good luck at the races, and always open your eyes for those claiming bonuses.
