North Florida hosts a quintet of speedy two year old colts in the Summer Count Memorial fashioned at the extended sprint distance of seven and one half furlongs over the main course.  Here are the contestants in post position order.

Breaking from the rail will be Otistaylor’s handsome and talented Spur Peace.  Following a solid third in his debut, the big Peace Rules colt broke his maiden in South Carolina and then came flying down the lane to take a Jersey allowance last time out.  Spur Peace posted identical speed figures of 75 in each win.  Three in a row seems very possible given his sparkling form and clever connections.

Georgia Coal is mine.  He won his debut at Woodbine impressively last time out so I shipped him down to Tampa for this test.  Lack of experience is my main concern for the Bernardini colt I inherited from Barndog.  I’m not crazy about him being favored, but the colt is training well and seems to have enough speed to contend.

Limit belongs to highly ranked tournament bridge player Timmn.  If it looks like his unique red and black silks have a pi symbol on them, well, they do.  When I asked about it, Tim simply said “I am a math kind of guy.”  And he’s a training kind of guy, too.  His well bred long shot (Dixieland Band x Unbridled x Graustark) ships in from Calder where he improved by leaps and bounds from a dismal bow to a winning second race.  Does need to step up even more to threaten these but could be up to the task.

Pastures of Green based Binzaman Stables is rapidly closing in on 1250 career wins.  The highly regarded Vermonster sends out Sisson’s Sunday in an effort to move one step closer to that goal.  The son of Any Given Saturday broke is maiden at Ellis Park two back and followed that up with a fast closing third in an Alabama stake last time out.  Speed figures are as good or better than any here and has an edge in experience over some.  Major player.

Last, but certainly not least, is the lightning quick Big Two Five from the Silverny99 barn.  Angela is a sensational photographer http://www.flickr.com/photos/silverny99/ and an equally talented conditioner.  Her Street Sense colt raced well in his first two lifetime starts at Lone Star Park in Texas.  In both races the speedy homebred set all the pace before giving way grudgingly and settling for third each time.  But last time out, in The CR Racers Frank Ausilio Memorial at Ellis, Big Two Five refused to lose and led them from coast to coast.  The final time of 1:11.4 for the six furlongs in the slop was good for a 76 speed rating.  Figures to be off and winging once again on Saturday.

Come out early as each of the first 5,000 paid admissions will receive a New York Yankees cap personally autographed by The Boss.
