Evil Fillies
This week
1. LEAVINGONAJETPLANE – urso – Spectacular start to this one’s career with three wins on the trot, including a very promising speed of 100 in her third. Since then has tailed off a bit, but the return to this distance should help. Will still a career best to compete here.
2. FILET CHEVAL – hansg – Filly with a very impressive breeding lines, headed up by Mineshaft, makes her stakes debut after a torrent of success through the allowance ranks. She’s certainly found consistency hardly ever putting in a disappointing run, but possibly lacks the edge of the much higher ranking runners she’s amongst.
3. HELLFIRE – kevoman – Three starts ago one would say this little lady is going places fast, after blitzing the field in the Sultry Shin Special at Puerto Rico, Circumstances since have dealt a cruel blow with an off track (although she did admirably well), and then perhaps not enough ground at her last, consequently that brilliant winning form lost it’s shine a fraction. Slightly extra rest this time around should have hit the reset button putting her well within reach of victory here.
4. BUBBLEGUM ROCK(IRE) – highpoint – This filly looks to be one of those really frustrating types, throwing in a spectacular run as good as any horse in her class, then the very next run crawling back into her shell with a rather modest showing. This has me concerned as her last run was one of the spectacular ones, and also added to the equation is a real indication that perhaps she’d prefer to be running at an even longer distance than she has to date. Can do it, but it’ll depend what mood she’s in.
5. STORMSHAFT – tripcrown9 – There’s not much I can say about this little girl that hasn’t already been said. Interestingly however will she ever win a G1? A question I’m sure her trainer asks constantly. Twice now she’s come perilously close only to miss out at the death. This weeks run should result in another feather in the cap, with proven ability just a tad better than the rest here, she will still however need to be at her best.
6. GENUINE
7. GO FOR BLUFF – gowand8 – Last G3 start three runs ago brought out this girls’ best ever, but when going for greater glory at even higher levels, form suffered quite dramatically. Dropping back again to G3 for this weeks race should theoretically bring with it a return to form. Nine furlongs looks to be the limit at this stage, so this race fits in very nicely. This is one to watch very closely, an upset is far from out of the question.
8. MOLLY RULES – dundey2 – Despite finishing top two in six of eight starts, success thus far has come at allowance level, and a disappointing showing in a G1 last time out, really indicates she’s up against it here. That’s not too say she won’t succeed in the future, but at this point in time she’s perhaps bitten off just a little too much.
9. THEY CALL ME MAGIC – slipery1 – Odds of 9/1 are a little cruel in my mind, as this girl has every chance of taking honours in this race. Her last run could easily be written off, as it seems 10f is just too far. A shortening up here, can do nothing but goods things. Don’t the odds fool you, this girl is a contender.
10. CADILLAC MOON – blackswan – Despite quite unbelievably good speed this filly has been robbed of victory sine five starts ago. Graded company hasn’t seemed to hinder this girl’s progress and performance in the slightest. Unquestionably she’s one of the outright contenders here and clearly the one most likely to take it to the favourite.
11. DAYLIGHT T (IRE) – highbreed – Although a little on the sporadic side as far as consistency is concerned, this filly has proven beyond doubt she posses’s enormous speed potential. Consistency issues could possibly be put down to a variation in race lengths she’s competed in of late, but rest assured if the ‘fast’ horse lines up at the gate, it’ll be quite a job holding her out.
12. ABADIA DA COVA – triska – It took till the last horse on this race’s card, but here we find the early pacesetter. Previous stakes efforts have brought rather modest results and in recent times allowance level has been the stomping ground, in fact winning her last two starts. She’s never run a speed needed to win this race so a career best will be required, but of all the up and comers this is the one likely to find that improvement.
It looks as though the favourite will be tough to beat, but there’s certainly enough talent to make life very uncomfortable for her indeed. Good luck all, and may they all come back healthy.
Cheers
