Shimmy Up to Maine to Watch these future Superstars.
14 trainers with 14 high expectations today. A very diverse field of juveniles, with many making a big jump into Graded company. Much fun!
1 109189 POPE MOBILE(KY) bmr003 M McClendon 8/1
BMR005 is the master stable of this group. They are as yet unassociated with any residency. The cleverly named colt is by Roman Ruler. He discovered a fondness for the grass two back after winning two straight on the dirt. He has three career wins, none longer than 6 furlongs. This will be his second graded try in a row, as he showed in the Feeling Bad stakes in Northern California (Golden Gate dare i assume?) at the end of June. He already has 97k in earnings.
2 157750 GRINGO(KY) roys L Sherman 13/1
Coldwater Farm sends this representative of pastures of Green to his second straight graded try. Last out he was given a chance in the Vermont BB Juvenile but came up short. He goes back to his seemingly preferred surface today. In three career races he has a sole win in his only turf try. The Toccet son has been thrown to the wolves early in his career. This one will likely battle for the lead early in this race. A soft pace would do wonders for him, and is likely his only chance to upset.
3 42472 BLACK CAT BONE(KY) sgtbones I Poindexter 8/1
Flying W Ranch, a 14.4% WP group who is unaffiliated with any residency, has this Forest Wildcat son with three career wins. He won his first three career races, all on turf, including a stakes in Tasmania. His last two tries have been in graded company, to the tune of a 5th place and a 6th place finish. With just under 87k in earnings, the experience may be useful here. This is his first try at this distance, but has shown all early signs of wanting a little more distance. Can’t discount this colt.
4 116006 SHOCKWAVE RIDER(ENG) super24 Ma Blades 7/1
One of DelPenn’s heavy hitters is in the 4th spot. The Pivitol colt showed nice life last out in the Grade III Norfellow Stakes with a solid show. This is only this youngsters third career race, only have won his maiden race in may. Pivitol has only sired one stakes winner this year, but his progeny do earn 72% of their money on the green stuff. Certainly can’t argue with this operations success rate, so keep this one in mind in your exotics.
5 162244 THE VAMPIRE(AUS) qwikvett K ORn 14/1
The Northwest racing Circuit is represented nicely with this son of Encosta De Lago. The colt enters his 4th career race with 2 wins under his belt/saddle. He has yet to taste stakes company and has seemingly skipped a step on his way to graded company. The inexperience certainly factors into the long shot odds. He lengthens beyond 5.5 furlongs for the first time, as well as leaving the cozy confines of Montana for the first time. There are probably too many changes here to wonder and question about to give this colt serious consideration.
6 160069 WIRBEL(IRE) papaxerxes T Robinson 15/1
Brisma,of the Ireland Residency, places the next long shot in the 6 hole. The son of Hurricane Run is also running in only his 4th race today. He ships to the USA for this graded try. His last out was a 6th place finish in the previously mentioned Norfellow Stakes. This will be a long race for Wirbel as he has yet to go beyond 5.5 furlongs. This one could probably benefit from a drop back into allowances to work on his conditions, but who is say Brisma is wrong for going after today’s purse?
7 133414 SCAT FOR BRAINS(KY) nappyroots J Hannibal 18/1
Was this horse named after me? The Fortune500 did a stable transfer after his first race, which was a win over 5 furlongs. Last out, the son of Scat Daddy prepped in Massachusetts with a second place finish in a listed stakes. he makes the jump to graded here in his third as well as stretching out to 7 furlongs. It may be a lot to ask from the youngster, who’s future may wind up being on the dirt (in limited action, Scat Daddy progeny have produced 86% of their money on dirt). Any increase in ability here does put him in with a chance though.
8 166789 ZAB DA HUSS(NZ) bmr002 We Williams 12/1
BMR005 has a second entry today with this son of Zabeel. Taking a leap straight form his Maiden win into graded company is a lot to ask of any horse. This will only be is second career race. His first was over 5.5 furlongs in Montana about a month ago. Zabeel throws about 2 to 1 turf to dirt runners. An ambitious placing to be sure, but one that may just have enormous payoffs.
9 163529 TURN THE HEAT UP(TUR) add N Matthews 23/1
Comedy Central’s Master cmd has the long shot in the 9 hole. The 4th race from this son of Manila will be his first in Graded company. Last out he came in 3rd in a listed stakes. That race was over 6.5 furlongs, and with so many in here today not having gone the complete 7 furlongs yet, this probably will be an advantage for Turn Up The Heat. Manila has sired two that are stakes winners already this year from the two year old class. Cmd is hoping to make it three. Not a bad bet if you wanted to have Turn Up the Heat as part of your trifecta. Meow!
10 14482 BUDA STORM(KY) vicki G Giant 5/1
The two year colt by Rahy has run 3 times, each time stretching out an additional half furlong. Last out was a 6.5F effort in the G3 Goats That Faint Juvenile. He came in third that day and earned the right to continue in graded company. The GR Simsters claim the twofus as their member. Two 79’s in a row make the luke warm favorite a definite contender. This is Rahy’s only stakes winner thus far in the 2 year old class.
11 102643 AWESOME ALLEGIANCE(AUS) reigart K Hennessey 8/1
Ladofmanor and the Gr Simsters have this fine looking Encosta De Lago colt in with a chance today. Last out he came in fourth in the Goats that Faint Juvenile. The difference between third and fourth that day (between the favorite here and Awesome Allegiance) was minimal, so the odds difference doesn’t make much sense here. He’s been getting better as he gets more ground so there is no reason to think he can’t get the extra half furlong. If you like the favorite you have to seriously consider betting on this one also/instead. My personal favorite Maine jockey is on board.
12 155230 PASSELANDE(IRE) sangster B A Baracus 6/1
Galileo is known for his turf breeding prowess around the Blazing Saddles, and gets to prove it again here today. This colt out of Teofilo enters with 3 races behind him. Only one of those was a victory, but it was a good enough effort for Galileo to give him a shot in the G2 Little Ones Juvenile in at the end of May. The third place showing there keeps him on this level today. This race will be an extra furlong for Passelande, having been sticking at 6 furlongs previously. He beat some quality colts in May including Black Cat Bone. His best is certainly good enough to win here, and would have been my choice as favorite if I was making the morning line.
13 110114 PJ READ COMIC(AUS) osstable3 P Hendrickson 29/1
The extreme long shot comes out of his maiden race, one that he won, to this extreme leap in competition. The son of Valixir won that race as a long shot, and will have to the same here. Before totally writing this one off though, please realize that he hails from the Flying Finn stable group, one of the classiest organizations in the sim. Ireland is proud to call him member. Valixir has only one other winner in the sim, a two year old stakes winner in the Maltese Stables. His dam, PJ Dixie Beauty won two turf routes in her career, indicating that the distance should not be an issue here. In fact I’d like to see what he can do over a mile next out.
14 99045 TIME TO TRY(ENG) isittrue S Shinkle 7/1
Is it true that it was time to try? Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Flagdown of the Pastures of Green, watched this Green Desert colt win his maiden in British Columbia last month. He stepped up into graded stakes this time around, in an ultra aggressive placement. That race was at 6 furlongs, so this one steps up the distance like the others racing today. Not much is known about Time to Try but if the chestnut colt wins here today Flagdown would have made an Amazing Discovery.
Chuck’s Picks (follow with caution)
Win: Passelande
